All your plants look so healthy and beautiful. I just bought one Anita Dracaena today and I hope the same caring method presented in this video applies to mine too. Thank you!
THANK YOU so much for this info. I bought a braided 3 stem marginata from Lowe's for $10 but it is much much smaller right now :) I did find some info on how to care for them but didn't really understand what they were talking about because I don't know much about plants. I like that you posted a video because now I can actually see what I'm supposed to do; I want to make sure it lives a long time!
ANOTHER TIP YOU DIDN'T HEAR ABOUT, If you use tap water to water any member of the dracena family, let the water sit for 24 hours first before you water it. Why? This will cause the harmful chlorine and fluoride to evaporate. You can also use distilled water you find at your local grocery store to water your dracena. Make sure it says distilled water and not the regular drinking water. Drinking water brought from the store often has fluoride in it.
Did she say Fluorine as opposed to Fluoride? Anyway, if you prune a Corn Plant completely from the thick cane trunk it grew from, it will re-grow twice as many new stems. What's more? The new growing Corn Plant will become acclimated to your growing conditions so much so that it's leaf tips will not turn brown.
Hello I have a mass cane plant that has made growth under the dirt instead of off the stem I just noticed the green sticking out of dirt is that normal ?
I have a plant that looks like the one that has light green stripes. I don't know if its a dracaena but i grows on the top like a round ball and its a flowers. In the evening they open and it throws out a beautiful fragrance.
i did enjoy watching you video however your title is incorrect you did not prune any plant in this video but did show off a selection of varieties of the same plant family. i have been mislead to this video and I absolutely hate when that happens yours is the first video I watched all the way through in wasn't completely angry that I was misled still might i Suggest renaming great video. thank you
I spent most of my life in Baldwinsville, NY, just north of Syracuse, so I know a CNY accent when I hear it. You have literally the thickest CNY eeyacent I've ever heard in my life. You may be from like Buffalo or Rochester or something in western NY I guess. But holy shit, you're like the epitome of upstate/central NY/western NY rural twang. I bet you're a huge Wegmans fan and I bet you've cooked salt potatoes more than once.
Help! My corn plant is constantly getting brown leaves to the point the whole leaf falls off. Now I have these long skinny bare stalks with leaves only at the top. What can I do?
I have a Dracaena plant that has grown very told and skinny and at the bottom has no leafs. I'm afraid to cut it shot because I think it may die. Please if you have any advice I will appreciate it.
I have a D. marginata that is dropping leaves like crazy! Braided up just like the one shown here. One of the canes is droopy and a lil soft at the point where leaves originate. Should I cut it back or is that a no no?
My two cane plants I've had for over 3 years are doing really well. I planted a few seeds over a year ago and a new plant grew in only one of the pots. It's getting taller but when is the town stalk going to form and appear!??
When she says, "Put the marginata in a window.", that'll wok unless it's very sunny. Mine will tolerate a few hours of morning sun, no more. My other dracaenas...not so much.
Hi Kathryn, I had a question: does the Yucca family respond similarly to Dracena in terms of pruning and care, or is there a difference because of its arid native habitat? Thanks for the videos!
ok I have a Dracaena Dragonnier when I got it it was small but now it is so big it is touching the ceiling can i cut the top off without hurting it. I love this plant it is the only one to survive me lol . Please help
Yes you can cut off the top. It will most likely produce side shoots where you cut at the top but it will do just fine.. You can also take the top and take a few leaves off and put it in soil. It will grow roots and you get another plant.
Any ideas what happens if I "peel" dracaena lemon lime starting from the top? Isn't there a way to remove the whole brown leave and let another grow or something? :)
mia928 all plants have flowers. some don't readily produce blooms indoors. some are microscopic. helianthus flowerheads are made up of thousands of tiny blooms.
Don't cut them let them come off naturally its a plants not suppose to perfect when its changing leaves the dying of the pant has to take place for new leaves an change the watering are you using tap water???
Laura Lye not if you have the proper humidity. Your leaves will never turn brown if you give your plant the humidity it needs. I have a humidifier in my room with my two corn plants and NONE of my leaves are brown. I keep it next to a window that's constantly open but never right in front of the window.
There is nothing about actual pruning here, just how to cut off the browned leaf tips, and mostly showing off the different varieties. Not very informative.
