how the hell they keep all the nozzles aligned, impressive. I prefer the solution of the AMS tho, this looks a very complicated system. Thanks for the video

But here's there 0 waste right? AMS loses like 10cm of filament for every multicolor layer. And in addition doubles printing time.
@eried
@eried 3 месяца назад
@@gogobram yeah, waste is reduced, I guess they also need to wipe some filament, but little.

@@eriedBruh, as a Bambu owner you know that a 3 hour single color print turns into an 18 hour print with a few hundred color changes. The PrusaXL 5 head will print it in 3.2 hours with .05% waste. As opposed to 18 hours with 40% waste. It’s unequivocally a better system. And this is from a guy that owns 4 Bambus. The only thing holding most people back is the $4000 price tag.

it is clearly NOT a "unequivocally a better system", it is complicated and prone to failures, but it uses less plastic and prints faster multicolor parts due that

Did you see the nozzle brushes on printables for the XL?
@ggaub
@ggaub 10 месяцев назад
LOL, you mean yours? I've got half your XL models in my collection. I just did a PTFE strain relief for one of my tools that is bending more than the others. I like the results, but not sure how much I'll like if it I ever need to pull the PTFE out. ;-) I'm gonna print a debris catcher now.
@surfalex2000
@surfalex2000 10 месяцев назад
@@ggaub yeah ;-) still have a long list of things a want to design ;-) i needed to pull a few times the filament out of the extruder, butnits not a big deal to dismantle the PTFE guide ( not a strain reliefer). I think i will redesign the PTFE strain guide, i want to have it simpler
@ggaub
@ggaub 10 месяцев назад
@@surfalex2000 I mean... it's a guide and strain relief to a certain degree, but yeah. I had one extruder that was bending a lot more than the others, so that's why I added them. Keep them coming!

Damn that tool swap is so damn fast. My Bambu AMS is slow as hell. Terrible camera work but I appreciate the video LOL
@ggaub

LOL, no pro videos here. :) Ain't nobody got time for that! ;-) But yeah, the tool changing is awesome. I have a Prusa MMU2, so I'm well familiar with the time taken for color changing on a single extrruder. At least the Bambu prints hella fast once it's loaded. Given their track record, I'm sure they'll have large volume tool changer by the end of 2024. ;-)

I would like to see how the long term wear and tolerance is with the tool head changer. As parts wear, you would lose accuracy....

How does the printer noise compare to the MK3S?
@ggaub
@ggaub 10 месяцев назад
It's a little louder from the steppers going fast during travel (not print) movements. If you know what an MMU2 sounds like when not in stealth mode, that's pretty close. It's not constant like older printers without silent steppers, but it's there for the fast motions. I wouldn't try to sleep in the same room while one is printing. It's not so loud as a Bambu, but it's also not using input shaping yet.

@@ggaub Thanks for the info! We have been running a MMU2S in the lounge (though on stealth mode), so hopefully having a 5 head XL won't be too annoying ; - ;
@ggaub

@@ANTALIFE probably OK, then. I had mine in my living room for the time being, and had a print that went past our bed time. Our house is a pretty open floor plan, and with the bedroom door open, we could hear every fast move. But, with the door closed, it wouldn't have been an issue. In the end, it will end up in the garage with my other machines so that I don't worry about printing all night long with multicolor prints. :)

Lots of stringing... hope thats not hiting the end product
@ggaub
@ggaub 10 месяцев назад
nah. The first few layers had "trails" from the parking spots, but that cleared up pretty quick. No more stringing than similar prints on my MMU. Also, it's just a tuning thing. Such a new printer will still need some tweaks to profiles, and I've not done any tweaking. I don't mind a few cobwebs here and there. It's also important to note that it comes with .6mm nozzles for all extruders, which will tend to string a little more than .4mm nozzles. But, I'm not going to argue that it's perfect. It will, however, continue to improve and not be left in the dust for newer products every few months.

Someone else on YT (3D Print Dogs) posted a fix for the stringing. They basically add some gcode to not do the bed lowering until it moves the tool away from the print area. It’s that lift that creates the stringing.
@wafflecart
@wafflecart 10 месяцев назад
@@MikeKobb This! It also happens on single toolheads on a color change.
@MikeKobb
@MikeKobb 10 месяцев назад
@@wafflecart Also, Prusa's latest blog says they're adding something similar to the 3D Print Dogs gcode to prevent this stringing on color changing. Sounds like it will ramp the height as the tool moves to the changer, instead of doing one big 2mm hop over the print.

I recently got an Bambu Labs AMS and it's really slow and produces a lot of waste. Tool changing looks like a great improvement. Sadly, it is also much more expensive.
