Actually, iirc crash bandicoot 3's combo bonus doesn't have a set cap and overflows into data it's not supposed to, which just happens to be gems, crystals, etc. It's also human viable. iirc if you spin and jump in a certain way, you can move without breaking your combo. In the level polar plunge (I think. It's an ice level.) if you jump on a box next to a pit with penguins sliding into it, your combo will go up with each penguin. This trick is used in certain speedruns. Edit: Crash 2, not Crash 3. My bad. Been a while since I've played the old Crash games.
There were no ice levels in Crash 3. You might be thinking of Crash 2 or Crash TWoC, but you definitely are correct about the spin and jump thing. If you spin and crouch right before you hit the ground, it preserves the combo
@@consair Indeed. There are not many spots to execute the move early on. I can think of Bone Yard as the best early level to pull off the trick. Otherwise Hang Em High in the second warp room area would work best
@@CoolsyNitro bone yard I think to get the first few crystals then somewhere in the second warp. Also the tigers in the tiny fight was one route that got it there and held it until a different level with a specific movement technique
In the style of their video a while back about whether Mario Party's dice are rigged, I'd love to see DYKG investigate the common claim that CPUs on higher difficulty settings get better rolls. People say that all the time, but personally I think it's just confirmation bias
The easiest way for developers to scale AI difficulty isn't more complex algorithms, but how much they allow it to cheat. Humans are inherently lazy and allowing the CPU to cheat is widely accepted on the developer side of things.
Growing up with the PlayStation 1 was awesome, but I remember games scaring me in general lol even games like crazh bandicoot. I think I just felt bad if I got Crash killed and my body processed it as me being afraid of the game in general
I hit the off switch as a child the moment I found out zombies actually bit my character in the original Resident Evil. I got scared of just the logo of the PS1 popping up - connecting it to something frightening.
ThaRixer covers it which is why I thought it was odd they said it was TAS only unless it's the 3rd one specifically you can't make use of it but I know for a fact the 2nd one does since it can be done on the Snow Go level and exploiting spin crouching to save the jump counter.
@@Rpodnee don't worry, the combat system is deep but not beginner friendly, for beginners I would recommend use weapon for each type of enemy, with the increased use against said enemy will increase its damage, also consider the type of the blade (blunt against rock type enemies as an example), also the attack chains are useful but they need some check some walkthrougha online and good luck friend
10:21 Thanks for talking about the chief of police Brian Irons from Resident Evil 2! I love submitting lots of interesting interviews from Shmuplations. But I really hate having to submit a very long sentences for the submissions. But I'm glad the new guy who accepts the submissions, makes adjustments to my submissions, in case of making some improvements.
You forgot that GTA 2 is the only game in the series to be rated T for Teen. However, that's not the case on the PC and Dreamcast versions, as those versions are rated M for Mature instead.
7:59 You're not gonna believe this, but... Dragon Quest 4's remake DID have an american release. It just happened to be on the Nintendo DS with the subtitle of, "Chapters of the Chosen."
Absolutely. It’s a large reason why coming off the SNES and PS1, I felt like the industry fell off a cliff in the PS2 generation. I never understand why people claim it to be such a great generation. I feel like SNES and PS1 have way more novel and classic games that are worth replaying.
Man, I have so much memories with that Rugrats game, not all of them pleasant though, it had a lot of scary stuff for a kid, freaky clown animatronics, ghosts, huge and loud geese, and that goddamn pyramid in the golf level...
I find it cool how you guys at DYKG are doing videos on the Original Playstation. I hope you also consider making videos on the Xbox and Sega consoles, especially Xbox cause that doesn't get talked much on this channel.
That fountain medal drove me crazy for weeks. The internet wasn't a thing back then and I was not allowed to play RE so the reference totally escaped me..
Thank you for including even a small clip of Vandal Hearts. It's my favourite game of all time and I feel like it gets forgotten when talking about great PS1 games. Konami don't seem to acknowledge these days which just makes me sad. I would love another sequel or a remake but it'll never happen, unfortunately.
PS1 had a lot of great games! The birth of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro! Among many other great games. The startup logo is still one of the best startup sounds for a game system.
The factoid that you provided at 9:18 in regards to Crash Bandicoot: Warped is misguided. This is a method that can be executed the same way as the previous titles and the values provided in the table are practically the same, til Relics and Powers having the difference. (It would be nice if you mentioned Cortex Strikes Back since it's the same method) The other issue is that this can be performed without tool-assistance and that’s including in Warped. There’s a speedrun (and WR) by burgerlands2 that does exactly what you’re saying without tool-assistance. It’s also nowhere close to being "nigh-on impossible" to execute, cause the method you’re showcasing, the one in Gee Wiz has been performed by human players (including burgerlands2).
Interesting about Dragon Quest IV not getting a translation for its remake on PS1, but I have a copy of a remake that was released on the DS in the US, and it is 3D as I recall and you can play Saro at the end. It makes me wonder if there’s any relation between the two now.
it's basically the same engine and everything yeah. They also released it for smartphones. And the big deal with the PS1 version was you could play as Saro
It was a time unrivaled in the industry. It was synergy between games becoming cheaper to produce (cds cost less than cartridges and the value got passed on to the consumer), and the “90s alternative” mindset making developers and customers more interested in trying new things. The ps1 was also terrible and rendering people, which forced developers to make interesting games using vehicles and abstract objects rather than copying Hollywood films. The end result was amazing stuff that would never get tried today.
Here’s a fact about the Rugrats game: If you complete the circus level your jump gets upgraded. This ability affects all babies and Spike and it allows you to jump farther
Love the subtle reference to LSD: Dream Emulator there at the start of the ad. Looks like the average price has shot right up. I guess it's had a lot of exposure on YT.
My experience watching this video: “There was a lot of licensed games on the PS1, including one based on one of our favourite childhood cartoons” *Jack Daniels ad starts playing*
What a relief. I missed videos where it's done 50/50, instead of showing just one thing. Their subscriber account hasn't increased for over a year. Why is that? Does it have anything to do with making sponsors videos that prevents them from gaining more subscribers?
i didnt grow up with a PS1 at all, but it has become my favorite console of all time in recent years. something about it and the game library is so classic and endlessly entertaining
I was always a Nintendo fan, but my neighbor used to leave his PS1 at my house when he got grounded. I got to play so many great games. Nascar Rumble, CTR, Smackdown games, Metal Gear Solid. Eventually got a PS2 and loved that one so much. Ratchet and Clank, Bouncer, MGS3, San Andreas. Such a good system. Would take a playstation over an Xbox any day.
So? What's your point? That you're some kind of self-absorbed post-millennial that needs everything to be about you or to revolve around just your experiences?
Lot more info out there about the Crash jump combos by speedrunners as it can very much be abused by normal people and can be used for massive sequence breaks.
Well, not really “confirmed” per se. those games take place in Ivalice, which is a “universe” to use modern terminology. Every game that takes place in Ivalice is in the same “universe”. Vagrant Story, Tactics, FF12
My parents saved for 6 months to buy me a PS1. It was truly the golden days of gaming in my life. And the main reason I wanted the console was because of RE3.
Man thank God, you have no idea how many of your videos I skipped because I was so tired of Nintendo this, Nintendo that, Nintendo hit me with a baseball bat! Thank you.
for real. ps1 doesn't get enough love. tired of hearing about nintendo and the same games over and over and over and over. omg zelda omg mario omg can we please talk about something else for once? lol
i'm planning since at least 5 years to buy an actual ps1 again. but... living in the pal region sucks. so importing a ntsc console would be the next best thing the power difference and always importing games is a waste of money, so modding the console would be a necessity i probably will stick with my retropie
@@Moskau43the 50hz problem was still present and, depends on the genre, but a good chunk of the games were censored. especially here in germany just no
Giana Sisters wasn't a bootleg of Super Mario. It was a new game programmed from ground up. At least this is what I believed the entire time. Does Giana Sisters contain media or code from original Super Mario?
According to Wiki: "Nintendo urged the makers of The Great Giana Sisters to withdraw the game from sale, arguing that it was obvious copyright infringement. Time Warp Productions and Rainbow Arts immediately stopped production and, at the same time, the game began vanishing from stores" Sad really. It was a great game, remember playing it back in the days with my sisters.
@@ImDanishSoWhat I read about that (and forgot). But was it a court decision or did they just gave up before it came to the court? I wonder what the specific copyright part was that Nintendo was suing them for. Maybe they did use something from the Mario game? Nintendo won't sue any company for making games that are similar to Mario or Zelda in example, that never happened (not sure in this case).
@@ImDanishSoWhat I remember doing this research in the past (its been a few years) and didn't found a conclusion. Maybe there is better information out now or I was just bad in research. Have fun, doing this kind of research is such fun. :-) I love this kind of curiosity.
What he is saying about Crash 3 not true at all. You can easily get extra crystals or gems no need for any tools or emulator. So if the one thing i know about is wrong it really makes me question everything else too..
