I love that you demonstrated it with Vice City!!! My favorite game for my PS2 ❤️❤️❤️ and I loved using the sniper rifle to zoom in on the newspapers to read the zombie Elvis headline lol!
Yes, when you use the component cables you can just enter the browser setup menu when the system loads and select the component video option, you will see it, its not a hidden thing.
I play all my ps2 and ps1 games on my standard tv. It looks good and actually better. But if you use the component cable on the ps2 to the hdtv, it will Definitely boost it up a little. Don’t expect a huge change, remember guys these games are old af so it’s fair to say that we can only go so far.
Its a huge difference with a right tv. I have a LED HDTV 720p and component cables makes some games look like completely different games vs composite cables GT3 looks soo good on component for examples
Newspapers are just for decoration. This game on ps2 is 480i only. Also thrugh composite or RGB scart. Widescreen is cropped meaning you lose image in top and buttom making the resolution closer to 400i. Use normal 4:3 for full image.
Thanks!!!. I have since played the best PS2 game ever, in terms of resolution. Gran Turismo 4, 1080i, great pix. About the same as an xbox 360 in terms of gameplay and graphics.
Nice man I still have the old school PS2. would like to get a newer version but I have no time to play it lol..Might try this set up for a simple upgrade
ye, I figured I would go old school gaming recently. Even though I got the Xbox one S its just so many updates and stuff to do, its tough to just enjoy a reg game and not worry about the best resolution or graphics.
It's weird, back in the day when I sold off my Ps2 I only kept my GTA games. When I moved countries and checked my games I only had packed Vice City and it was my only game to test used PS2 I bought. Need to upgrade to composite as you're right it's unplayable with just standard AV on a HD tv but still holds up ok on a old CRT tv I have.
yes, you're right. I actually made a different video and played GTA 4 in 1080i, thats one of the games for this system that supports it. check it out if you can.
You’ll get a much better image if you use the natural aspect ratio. With it stretched at 480i, the picture degrades a bit. You’ll get used to the black bars on the sides. Component is definitely way better on the ps2 than composite though.
yes, I agree. you're right. I've tried both, and the damn screen is just too small with the black lines. Although I've recently made a new video of playing the only cool PS2 game in 1080I (gran truism 4). Great picture, close to a regular Xbox 360 honestly. No black lines, whole screen was filled.
yes anamorphic widescreen is not providing anymore pixels really. It will be sharper and less soft and more detailed with 4:3. This was true even on CRT's. This is also true for the Wii, a 4:3 picture looks better than a 16:9 one.
Also, there are a number of games that support 480p via menu options or bootup button press combo. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_alternate_display_modes
I spent around 10 minutes trying to figure out why it wasnt working for me (the component cables) it turns out that I had to change the channel to the correct AV channel. Hope that helps
hey buddy!! Sorry you spent all that time, I should have pointed out to set the Tv on the correct input, LOL. How are your results with the new cables?
hybrid32494 no it’s fine my own stupidity, like others have said not much difference in visuals however all text are now HD and I can read easily without squinting
Make sure the cables are shielded otherwise you will get picture noise, like lines on the screen and a humming sound. Mine were £7.50 and shielded but there are ones that are not shielded around that price.
Hey man, yes, this is quite an old video, but I still have the system and the cables and I still pop in the old GTA once in a while, lol. Quality is still impressive for the time even with a modern television.
hey, I purchased the original Grant Tourism 4 for PS2, that is one of the games that will output 1080i with component cables. I did a video on it and recorded it, check out the quality, it was incredible.
hahaha, makes sense. Some have said that it was to add some random effects to the game, although I don't see how random newspapers flying around is realistic at all.... hahaah. Thanks for watching!!!
hello, you're basically gonna get the same image anyway in most games, since they will be at most 480 resolution anyway. Very few games are 1080i spec on this system. Gran turismo 4 is one of them btw.
Did you use a tv card or something? and another thing is what about the volium out-put how u hook up speakers! can I use any type of headphones in it?? need your help bro oh and thanks for the awsome video...
why would you want to use headphones? the basic original and COMPONENT cables have audio attached already. This was just the basic PS2 with a regular 1080P TV with component cables. DID I answer your question? lemme know, lol.
Are these cables still working for you? I’m currently using the original Sony composite cable and it looks absolutely dreadful. Not to mention, I have my Xbox One S sitting right next to it so there’s a big difference in technology. I found this exact cable on Amazon for $9 so I might buy it and see if it works out.
hey man!! the cables are fine still. No matter which component cables you get they will still be much better than the original sony composite cable. So I would not worry. for 9 bucks, go for it!!!
hybrid32494 just received them in the mail and tested them out. These cables make the gameplay look almost as good as my old Xbox 360! Thanks for the great review! If I didn’t click on your video, I would’ve never bought them, and I would still be stuck with a really bad resolution. Now I can finally play Gran Turismo 4 at 1080i resolution!!!
I'm getting my component cable in a few days, so I'll definitely test the game with the cable. It surprised me when I saw this games in a store, they rarely sell old stuff in that store.
yes, the component cables will definitely make the quality better and your resolution will be higher as you can see from this video. The basic reason is that while the composite is a single video cable, the component is 3 separate color video cables, therefore better quality picture.
hey buddy. I honestly cannot notice any weird ghosting effects at all. Ik now some criticisms of cheap cables and ghosting is one of them. But let me tell you this, the improvement over non component cables will beat and minor negatives of the cheap cables. The quality will still be much better no matter how you look at it.
From my experience the buzzing noise is due to poor cables. Meaning they have bad internal shielding (insulation). This sometimes results in video noise and sounds. Would you say your cables are just generic type ones?
hybrid32494 Most likely they are generic. I guess I gotta pay a lil extra for no buzzing noise. I also got the ps2 to hdmi converter, but I would like to use component cables for my capture card since it allows me to record more with less memory.
I've seen some vids about the HDMI converters, and it seems like most people say they all have high video noise because the signal still isn't actually an HD 1080 signal anyway. Best bet is to get used PS3 component cables if you can get originals.
hey man!! YES, I made another video where I showed myself playing GT4 in 1080i on this same TV. Search my channel it will be in a video where I tested a wireless PS2 green remote control.
If my tv come with wire adapter which i plug in my composite wires one goes straight in the tv which is the yellow or white one the rest go into the green and blue wire adapter. If i buy composite it will still make a difference huh. Sorry i know sounds confusing
YES, in reality the YELLOW composite cable is your only video cable, the other two are sound. The component has three separate color cable inputs, and two audio cables.
your best case scenario would be the original PS3 component cables. Although they are pretty expensive used. The ones I got in this video were just basic ones from amazon for around 6 bucks. Even the cheapest will be better than using composite.
I would highly recommend 4:3 since most PS2 games are older and look good on a smaller screen (there were no big screen TVs back in the PS2 days). 16:9 is okay but you will notice the difference once you make the upscale comparison between 16:9 and 4:3.
Don't buy cheap cables as they're more prone to interference and analog noise, Retro Gaming Cables and HD Retrovision sell high quality Component Cables for the PlayStation 2
@@Deathlock61 Sorry to say but I never got my hands on that cable as Amazon(or any other website) is not delivering in my locality currently. But Go for it,the cable will enhance your experience by a great extent😃 Anyway I will definitely share by results when I got that stupid cable.
@@biscuitcarpal2571 that's ok but luckily for me I can get the cable from amazon, so when I get it and test it out I will definitely share my experience with it if you want.
@@biscuitcarpal2571 I set up my PS2 with component today and it looks great. Make sure the cables are shielded otherwise the picture wont be good and will get interference. I paid about £7.50, but the unshielded ones are about that price so make sure you get the right ones for best picture.
I know, totally agree. I recently played Gran Tourismo 4 in 1080i on my TV on the PS2, incredible graphics. Pick one up used and you will see the potential of the PS2 with component cables in 1080i.
I got me a little problem with the quality picture on my hdtv with my ps2 slim, it looks too sharp, and when i play gta SA , u can tell that the buildings look like razors😂... anyways im using a component cable but idk what to do to fix it.🙁
yes, as thevideokid says make sure to load the system configurations in the beginning, without a disk inserted into your PS2, the system config setting will come up, and chose video output as the other setting, you will see it. that should adjust to the component cable output correctly.
The Video Kid I have the same problem but when u choose RGB the screen turns black & says no signal. I have no idea what to do? Gta sa looks shit but on youtube videos where people have the component cable it looks good!
The Video Kid i need help i got ps2 fat one and bought component cables as everyone says makes game look better i connected back of 42 inch hd tv samsung its got all ports connected it up and there nothing no image no sound?
The Video Kid ok done that it worked but it looks worser than av cable? Wtf actually so badly wanna play these old games i got nfs underground looks so bad fuzzy and lines in it my tv is samsung about 9 years old i set the tv to 4:3 and ps2 to 4:3 looks really bad again shall i get ps2 hdmi converter i just wannt game to be smooth not fuzzy so angry i might just get a old crt tv
hey man, can you check what your output resolution is on the TV. Using component and the standard cables it should be different. The Tv should automativally adjust on its own.
@@hybrid32494 hey man I got the same problem with quality. It looks terrible on my gaming monitor, but it looks great oon 32 inch TV. I use component cable. I think its bcs monitor cant adjust to that low resolution as TV. What do u think and do u know what I can do. Is ps2 to HDMI adapter make a difference? Hope u answer. Thank u.
hey buddy! I no longer have this tv, but I will tell you the specs. It was a WESTINGHOUSE 1080P rated TV. It wasn't a 4K TV. Eitherway for gaining you really only need 1080, unless you're running the newest of the X-box platforms.
ok, maybe you're right. I never owned a PS3 when it was new, I have the xbox 360, and it came with component. Eitherway, gotta get the component for the PS2. They did made ones for the PS3 that were SONY branded. They go for a lot on ebay.
btw I got a cheap wireless PS2/PS3 remote on amazon for like 10 bucks. Terrific remote, no issues at all. I have a vid on channel on it, where I played Gran tourism 4 in 1080i on the ps2. check it out.
Vice City still look like ass on PS2 because it only goes up to 480i meaning the only thing a component cable will do for a game like that is allow widescreen. Vice City is still the best though.
