That's a really pro job there! Blimey, you must get through a TON of flux. My pot (of flux) has lasted ages but agree that it's absolutely VITAL - makes a WORLD of difference when I'm soldering SMD components onto untinned home-etched boards, especially QFT CPUs! ;)

Thank's. Yeah lots of flux is used. because the board wicks away the heat I have to have the hot air and iron up very high. which in turn burns away the flux quicker. It's genuine Amtech stuff as well about £35 for 30ml. QFN stuff isn't for the faint hearted. Hope to see more of your stuff.

Ps4 Games Hi. I made it. I couldn't find a suitable PCB holder. Neodymium magnets and some nurled finger screws. Less than £10 from ebay.

My Bros HDMI just did that tonight, luckily the pin wasn't bent just sticking up so I bent it down enough, plugged the HDMI in and it works for now.

hello my friend good job 👍can you help me and answer a question? I lost an SMD component when replacing the HDMI socket. It sits directly near the HDMI jack ... there are two components .... a 2,6uf capacitor and a diode, can you tell me what that is for a diode?

A diode prevents current from flowing in the wrong direction, or can be used as bridge rectifier circuit.

Top tip. Cheaper to send to www.ubermicro.co.uk for not only the HDMI port replaced but full clean, dusting out and new thermal compound! I'll even test the hard drive for bad sectors and advise if there are any!

Are all the DMI's ports the same for all models? or are they different? CUH 1115a, 1001A, 1215A HDMI Ports? I also heard that sometimes when you change out the HDMI port , it might of shorted the board and it wont show display> I tell my customers that the fix the majority of the times works but at times there is that small % that the new HDMI might now work. Is this true?

Lots of flux and capillary action. Solder will flow towards the heat. Just takes practice and a stereo microscope.

Thanks, I use a BK 6000 BlackJack SolderWerks deluxe rework soldering station. It's ok and served me well the last two years of almost daily use. It uses the cartridge solder tip so fast heating and accurate.

Thx to soooo many 'tubers for putting out content like that. But reading through the comments, i can't help but wonder: KIDS, why don't you get your act together ? I had those tools when i was about 15 and i paid them off getting into it and offer repairs. Just a quick example: i bought 2x PS4 with broken HDMI for 50.- and i'm using a HotAir station for roughly 50 and a solder iron station for about 40. Add some more material and you have an initial investment of 150.- that can get the job done, and sell each console after repair for 150; you'll either have a PS4 FOR FREE or PROFIT! Not saying you start off on a professional level, but pressure your parents into it, get the gear, get broken hardware AND LEARN how to use these tools, or search for a makerspace and see if you can get started there, but stop COMPLAINING. We need more REPAIRS and you guys (at least some of you) ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE FUTURE. Wish i had it that easy with all these tutorials back in the 80s/90s...

Hi, so my HDMI pins have bent recently and prior to this the PS4 kept overheating so we tried cleaning it by removing the top and bottom where you can now see the fan. The fan and top is still showing but it worked fine without overheating. Can I send this to you via mail and how much would it cost?

When wicking the small pads for the connector pins, be gentle on contact and don't run the iron and braid along the short-side of the pads, side-to-side. You can easily tear off a pad if not careful, if the iron or braid catches on the long sides of the pad. Rather, move the braid and iron along the length of the pads,and just gently rest the braid and iron on the board, letting it slide over. Don't push it down with force into the board. If you have to do that, then lift the wick and move it to the next pads before sitting down, don't slide it around over the pads with force.

Thanks for the advice. However having done hundreds of HDMI repairs (and other far more intricate soldering like BGA pad repair) I have quite a feel for how much pressure can be used. Believe me these pads where in tip top shape and where going to go no where. The type of wick I use (gootwick) and with the use of flux which acts as a lubricant even if you where ham-fisted it would take alot of effort to damage the board. However I have see what customers and other "repair shops" do!

My ps4 was having display issues, I would move my console quite often from my home to my friends and figured cause of the frequent changing of the HDMI cable I had damaged my port, it would sometimes work if I played around with the cord but it would mostly just display a image covered in red dots and no audio. Today after a long time I decided to move it to my tv downstairs and now it is working completely normally. I am scared now to move it as I’m not sure what will happen if I do. Any tips or suggestions besides just leaving it as is because it is connected to a family tv not personal. Sorry for the rant!

Osei Sylvester could be a multitude of things. Soldering on the port, shorted filters, HDMI IC or shores diodes.

I think you mean flux. Flus is ues to keep the solder flowing and stops it from oxidising. No you need the correct equipment to do these HDMI ports Temp controlled soldering iron, hot air station..ect... I have repaired so many HDMI ports where people with just a soldering iron and a roll of solder have attempted. More damage is always done!

So I heated up the bad hdmi and it felt lose so I pulled on it and it broke. 3 of the 4 metal pieces that go through the motherboard broke off and are still in the holes lol any clue on how I would get them out.

If it looks physically broken yes. There is a slight chance the hdmi IC or hdmi filters go as well. Easily checked with a multimeter. 8 out of 10 just change the port. Do you have a good soldering iron flux and solder? A microscope is night and day difference!

How much does a heatgun and a solder remover cost? Edit: what is the purpose of the flux?

A heat gun is about 20-30 euro from Aliexpress with free shipping. Some 858D+ clone will do fine. Solder wick and solder sucker are about 1 euro and 2 euro respectively. Get the good brand wick (goot wick) or else it wil not absorb your solder. The price difference between good (goot) wick and shitty wick is very small. Flux helps the solder flow onto the metal parts you want to connect to eachother. Otherwise the solder will just form up into a ball and not stick properly to what you are trying to solder. Don't forget to get good solder as well. It makes soldering so much easier if you do not have shitty solder and a shitty soldering iron. Soldering iron-wise I would recommend the TS100. It is easy to work with, small and cheap and it uses very nice tips that heat up within seconds instead of minutes. The TS100 should be about 35 euro. But keep in mind you need a power supply (laptop brick for example) and some extra tips (5 euro +- each) so it will be a bit more expensive than that.

I did something wrong. Don't shake the shipping sukt. You can also add a new weld ing until it melts quickly without damaging the bora.

Serious fault. Doubt anything HDMI related. You'll have to check with someone who does APU reballing.

Your hot air may need calibration.

@@UberMicroRepairs i used in the minimum airflow speed and maximum temperature it can reach. I think i'm going to try dessold the conector supports in the corners with the iron solder, and then use airflow in the other contacts. Thank you for the video and for answering.

@@ricardod.5815 Air flow I'd use is about 50 to 70% your station can do. if your station is getting to 480c the port should literally fall off after 5 minutes of heating. Keep the nozzle about 5mm away.

KSGER soldering iron and a Quick DW816 hot air. Fake Amtech flux and quality Kester solder. Weha Screw drivers. This is what I use now anyways.

Yeah a hair drier won't hurt the board or any component. Should get it up to a nice toasty 120c. If you plan on fixing the board you will need the correct tools, sorcery and some wizard skills.
