This video shows the repair of a PS4 slim with no power - occasionally you would get a quick beep when pressing one of power or eject buttons and then nothing but a completely dead console. Here we have it open to see if we can identify the culprit in an attempt to get it back to full working order.
It had been a long day at this point and I ashamedly didn't identify the inductor at first glance (until the penny dropped shortly afterwards lol)... no points for me there!!

Love the liquid damage fixes....always a good time lol. You should grab yourself a board toothbrush for these types of spills. Helps with cleaning immensely!

Indeed mate - I used to have a fairly stiff bristled brush which worked a treat but eventually I managed to wear them down lol. I really should replace it :)

Love these videos...I’m also stuck with a PS4 SAC-001 showing no signs of power at all, and board diagnosis shows nothing, all fuses are fine. Driving me mad! This video helped me check some circuits though so many thanks!

good job andrew the first one brown is capacitor .. charge from one side and discharge from other side which goes to ground .. it stabilize voltage and keeps same voltage supply for the components during the ( ON ) condetion of mother board .. the other gray ( you said is cap ) no this one is smd coil .. they are connected in each side so normally there be buzzer in contunity test will buzz .. how ever the coil function is to keep the amps feeding throu the for all other components in the ( on ) condetion good luck man i really enjoy watching your videos thumbs up

Hi Andrew, my PS4 Slim CUH-2116A it has the blue light of death. When you turn it on the blue light flashes, the fan works very fast and loud at this timeand. When it turns off you hear three beep. Sometimes the fan does not start at all and the blue LED is constantly lit. Me wondering you know what is this? Is this a GPU, south bridge or power supply? Your video are great !

I hope you don’t mind me asking a question about a one I have at the minute. It doesn’t power up at all when first put into the wall. Leave it for 30/45 mins it will boot up and then last 5/10 mins and the process needs to be repeated. What could be causing this? Checked the system and it seems fine, battery good and the board looks good. It’s got me stumped! Can you help!?

yes, thanks to your goodlike instructions i was able to fix a HDMI fix of a CHIP. it ...all what u do is so amazing ! Please show me a solder action of a PS4 HDMI Chip re-solder. It took around 1:30 h for me so i just want to see it complete by a prof ! thanks in advance, also u use iso and alco

@Andrew Paul Thank your very much for your Videos ! I have a Question about the PowerButton on the PS4 , what Voltage should i espect to be on the Power Button ? Because i can only read 0.24 V on my Ps4 on the Power Button . This Ps4 wont turn on at all. thank to your videos i found out that the line filters on the HDMI Chip are all shorted to ground. I removed the Chip an the short was gone ! But the Problem remains i think its another short somewhere !

I have a question? Working on a slim power supply is good tested when I plug it up it takes about 3 minutes before it will allow you to turn it on I got it to update but after that when it cut off to restart it was the same issue. Now it’s trying to check drive so it cuts on then off to cut back on but instead of going to the check disk screen it just cuts off I can get into safe mode if I wait about three minutes for it to finally cut on. My questions is it the power management ic and where abouts is that located on a saf-005? Thanks any input would be appreciated

Good morning Andrew. Thank you very much for uploading this educational videos. That is very appreciated. I have a ps4 that will not recognize my controller in either of the front usb ports. I used a USB tester, and and I an getting 5V, but th wired controller that I use does not go into charging mode like it usually does on a normal ps4. I tried swapping the BT module but that did not fix the issue instead the ps4 would not turn on. Maybe I applied to much heat to the donor chip and I end up runing it. Could it be that maybe the USB CHIP that control the USB ports went bad and it needs to be replace? If that is the case what is the name of that chip? Thank you!

Old CUH-10xx and 11xx machines it's a GL3520. On anything else, it's the Southbridge which is responsible for hosting USB.

i have found electronic component cleaner spray can to effectively clean thick solder paste residue and corrosion removal. Its kinda oily but followed by iso prop clean, gives pretty good results. But im not a professional just a hobby of mine. And i dont know if the corrossion will spread again; i dont think mine is a permanent solution. what temperature do you use on the hot air? i use 450 c. with airflow on 2 or 3 for small nozzle and 6 to 7 on large nozzle. is that safe?

Good to know :) I'm using 490C @ 100l/min. Largely I leave it set the same, I just vary the heat / air intensity by controlling my working distance above the board / component.

Quick question for anyone smarter than me - PS4 Slim, BLOD beeps once, then shuts off. It's not the PSU. No shorts on the Power Management IC or around it. No shorts on caps around and under SIE. Should I just salvage it for parts (if it's RAM or APU) or should I continue with the inspection? Thanks!

Hi! I have a ps4 pro cuh 7015b and is not turning on I unplugged it from the wall and waited a couple of minutes and it made the bip but then nothing, it didn't do it again, I tested the power supply but is working fine any ideas? I will really appreciate if someone can give me any suggestions :(

I have an slim ps4, that it does a "bip" and doesn't start up. It doesn't even give me a sign that it works, no light, nothing. I changed the psu but still nothing. When the device is like dead(without light or anything), only the eject button seems to work(makes a noise), but the power button, nothing at all. Any suggestions? I appreciate it

Hi Andrew, fantastic work! I Obtained an Xbox one that fell off an armour. Well it thankfully still works but USB DATA , and controller SYNC Is dead, USB 5v is present. Happen to have an idea of what it might be? Maybe an IC I can check? Or south bridge?

But after replacing HDMI is still no image and I noticed there is a components knocked off don’t know what trying to find the schematic or help. The part is back side of the board (HDMI reference) right above the HDMI

It's a Cavitek Professional 13L model - has a heated bath and sweep frequency. Excellent piece of equipment but certainly not cheap. That said, it's got a fair few boards working from liquid damage and the likes which wouldn't have otherwise been possible so it's quickly paying back.

Hi Paul. I know this is kind of old video but I was hit wall with similar issue. I have a ps4 slim SAD-001 that had faulty HDMI IC and replaced it successfully. Then found out the USB ports had no power and did a Southbridge reflow. Now the PS4 has no signs of life. No power, no lights, no beeps. Where should I look from your experience? I have reference board SAD-002 that boots up ok to compare but had no luck to find the fault.

If you've no power after a Southbridge reflow then it's likely to be related. For what it's worth, usually reflows aren't enough to resurrect USB issues on slims, it typically requires full replacement of the chip. I'd be tempted to do this in any case as you'll likely kill two birds with one stone - the Southbridge controls power management as well as USB functionality on these consoles.

@@AndrewPaul I have a d donor board, and I will try it. First I will reball the current chip since I noticed bridged pins at the edge of the chip. If it fails I will take the one from the donor board. They are not married with the mainboard, right?

@@AndrewPaul The story short... I have the southbridge reballed once without success, but since the reball was with wrong stencil and wrong size of solder balls, this is not a conclusive result. I am expecting new stencil and balls at tge proper size to reball again. At least checking out the pins under the Southbridge didn't find shorts, so I am hopeful that a proper reballing miggt fix the PS4. Thank you for your input mate.

Hi Again :) please can you take a look at my two ps4's normal console that's had blue light death and red light of death heats up soon as you turn it on, dust build ip. when you insert game few seconds in flashes red then turns the console off. and ps4 slim with hdmi issues , im looking at just getting ps4 slim fixed for the time bein can you pick my console up?

Hi, any ides why 1116 is not glowing white when machine is on? Blue tight turns off but no white light, console works and plays. Replace led but didn't help

Indeed - behind the power contact is a row of transistors - are any missing or look damaged at all? It is these which switch the LEDs so any missing / damaged ones will cause this effect. Another one to check is the polarity of the LED - they are polarised so if they're put on the wrong way around then they may fail to illuminate.

@@AndrewPaul which cleaning solution do you use and how much “water” do you need to fill in? i guess you dont need to fill up fully but just cover the board?

It's specialist PCB solvent supplied from Allendale. The bath itself requires a minimum level of 2/3rds of a tank of solution at all times - I'm assuming this is to keep the transducers cool during operation.

@@AndrewPaul Thats very interesting. Sorry ot bother you with the details, but it's my first Ultrasonic i have and wonder what experiences you have. How often do you switch the fluid/destilled water mix then? Do you keep the fluid in there and only chance when really dirty? or with every new wash?

Can you fit a PS4 pro motherboard in there? or do you basically need to lay it in "standing up" and turn it around, as not the full board is covered in fluid? seems that the dimensions of a ps4 motherboard are bigger than what fits in a cage?
