PSA GF5-R (First Impressions)!

To my understanding the gap is actually designed into the stock to prevent cracking. If you look at old photos of AKMs they usually have the gap

The gap is done on purpose, that is to avoid splitting the wood when it swells up as well as to avoid contact with the receiver. AKs can be fine with no gap but if its there and it is put there for a reason I rather have it.

The wear on the parts makes this gun look way better. I love akm's and they look great.

First thing I noticed was that ALG trigger. It absolutely ROCKS!. My Zastava was transfomed by it. Good to see you on the range again. Dennis.

Lately I have really gravitated to AK vs my AR platforms. Something about the simplicity/durability. I just ordered a GF5 in redwood. I got a polish underfolder years back from Atlantic as my first. I also run the PSA AK-V 9mm and love it. Their build quality is amazing for the $$. You can tell PSA is not just about profit.

I noticed everyone is a gap expert in the comments, so I thought I'd add a few more things that nobody seemed to mention. Technically the gap is there because when you look at it you can clearly see that there is space between the receiver and stock. G.A.P. spells gap. And if that gap was not there then the stock would be flush with the receiver, and they would be touching along those respective surfaces. The stock is wood, and the receiver is metal so without that gap between the two that would mean that metal is touching wood with no air in between. I'm pretty sure I'm 100% right about everything I just said. Hope it helps. 👍

TAPCO fixed the ugly problem with the smoothside version. Despite what the internet "experts" claim the TAPCO mags are probably the best non-reinforced poly AK mag. I've abused the hell out of them and they just don't quit. Too bad they don't make em any more. But I bought a bunch when they were on sale for $5 each so I'm set.

The gap is for saving the stock from cracking. Wether your picking a parts kit gun or not... go with a polymer furn. Kit if you want the formal, even though the ak being ugly is the form factor.

That gap is there on purpose. The receiver flexes a little when firing. If there was no gap there, the receiver would flex against the wood and it would crack the stock.

There are plenty of kits out there on the market. Apex and RTI have a ton of them as well as some others. AK “enthusiasts” just love to bitch and complain and if they can do that while shitting on PSA, well that’s just a cherry on top.” For them. PSA is doing well and I hope they continue to for a long time.

Most slant brakes have a extra slot to turn the slant for a left hand shooter

That gap in the stock is intentional. It’s there to keep the stock from splitting under recoil.

I have the same rifle, mine is 1980. the wood is pristine and everything is matching. im left-handed i took the slant off and put a russian muzzle nut on it and it looks way better, im about to get a bayonet for it. puts the zastava m70 to shame.

I have a gf3 with a surplus wood dong set and my stock has that small gap as well but that stock is in there extremely tight.

if you don't reprofile the hammer on the trigger it will eventually deform the tail.

It’s a shame that PSA bought all those Romanian kits but unfortunately PSA makes a nice gun and they put a lifetime guarantee on everything they make even them Romanian parts. They do the same thing with their Russian line where they’re using Russian Tula parts. And everybody else who wanted those parts will charge you $3000 for their supposed custom AK where PSA is doing it for 1200.

Before I got my PSAK-103, I was running a Riely defense RAK-47 dressed in Romanian dong furniture , I love them both.

Psa has been fire recently, i got their tula Russian ak build and the thing is mint

Great rifles . Combloc AKs will not have the GF5 accuracy nor will the barrels last as long .

They don’t dimple the rivets properly. Does that matter?

I picked one of these up in a trade about a month ago. It’s awesome. It is my first Ak but I have shot quite a few my buddies own. I put 300ish rounds through it with zero issues. Happy to see the dusk cover hand guard is also loose on this one. It’s the only thing I was worried about. Edit: also mine didn’t have the cleaning rod and the moron I got it from cut two inches off the dong but what can you do? I traded him and m&p sport 1 in .223. I got 5 gen2 US palm mags and 150 rounds.

My concern is that the grip (wooden) is already SLIGHTLY wobbly as i pick it up right out of the box. surely this can't be normal? I'm super worried this is just going to get looser and worse once i start shooting it. Please advise... pretty concerned about that.

Just bought 1 of these pimped out too...I have a weird question...based on your use ever have a problem with the dust cover not wanting to go back on without a hammer [or a hard smack]? Is that normal?

Does ur dust cover have any play at all? Mine has some up and down by the rear sight block and some side to side in the hole cover.

I just bought my first Ak rifle. It is a Century in 7.62 x 39...a friend told me that means it is not an Ak47 but rather an SKS...true? Also the tapered muzzle is slanted to the right. I wasn't sure if that is how it should be but I see that yours is the same so I will assume mine is correct. Yes?

Just looking at the P S A website and the Red Wood Sharkfin model is hot af. If I wasn't about to get canned over the thing I'd be all over that.

I appreciate what psa is trying to do, yet like all large American they are cutting corners using cast parts and doing half ass builds. Now PSA is buying the kits up when it is so hard to find them as it is. PSA butchers them, their rivets are never done well. They use substandard steel. They make rifles for the "poors" just like Anderson makes ARs. Stay away from PSA and Century arms. After they tried to get one over on AK buyers with their first two generations of rifles they can go to hell.

You can check your local and state laws they may tell you everything is fine to ship own to AK from palmetto State armory even call palmetto State armory and talk to an associate and tell you the same thing but after ordering you may get a text telling you they will not ship it to you and the discretion is up to them also whether you're charged a restocking fee is also up to the associate that you're dealing with this happened to me is this really a company that you want to deal with sounds like Hitler's resume to me or Joe biden's hard to tell the difference I don't have hundreds of dollars to throw away I barely had the money to order this firearm which we have been saving for for quite a while just to be disappointed and stressed out think about it before you order anything from them 🤕🤕🤕🙄😬🤔

Bro. Not being an AK guy, you have to Do your research before the video. Lots of false statements like the gap. Its designed into it on purpose to prevent cracking.
