That was really cool! Great way to start my Tuesday. Thanks again for another great video. I can't say enough how special it is to see how careful you are with each gar you catch, and release! One of these days I'm going to get out of Wyoming, and come to Texas and catch a gar myself!

I’m always amazed at your skills when it comes to anything fishing related, but you were able to name that snake that was in the water and only in eyesight for less than 5-6 seconds, from 50 plus years distance. When I looked it up and slowed down the video frame by frame (blown up), I was absolutely blown away that you named it as fast as it swam away! You’re AMAZINGLY skilled at sharing info and technique. You should have been a professor with your great teaching skills. As always, thanks for sharing content that never bores. I always learn something (or several somethings 😂). 👏🐍🔥👍🎯🤔

I lived in Houston for 12 years have fished the rivers in and around the area never seen that location I loved catching the alligator gars back in the late 70's through the 80's I never brought them on land I did release them with no problem love your videos.

That was utterly fascinating. Years ago, I'm sorry I don't remember the details, but I watched a TV show where the man in charge, also lived in TX and had the same love for this this, and there had been a terrible drought, and there was a pond down to just a few feet of water, and the poor gar fish were struggling to stay alive. The majority of their bodies were exposed and just their heads under water. And they were huge. He was in a helicopter, and he rescued every single one of those fish by transporting them in a basket suspended beneath tvhe helo Damnest thing I had ever seen.

Impressive and incredible adventure 🤩 !! That species of fish seems to be really powerful !! I'm also impressed by the technic of the rope you use to take him off the water... In our country, we don't have at all gars, but only pikes (which are much smaller) and we just use nets... I loved the respect you show to the fish and the time you take to sure he's OK before release 👍 !! Thank you for this fantastic video 🙏 A French fisherman

Excellent video as always. I lived in Houston for two years in the mid 80s and never knew about the great fishing opportunities within the city. Of course, even if I did know, I wouldn’t have eaten any of the fish caught in city waters; which leads me to a question. How far upstream from Houston would you have to go to feel safe eating the fish caught in a river or bayou?

I've caught over 50 of these alligator gars and I have never had to use a rope to bring it in . That seems like way too much trouble to do just to bring it in . Now can see doing that for a gar that weighs over a 100lbs .

Up in south west BC Canada we have not had a day warmer than 65F this year. It would normally be 80-90F weather. We are also experiencing heavy rains and flooding since the cold weather this year we still have heavy snow up in the mountains. As for our fishing streams I suspect that most of them will be too blown out to fish until early fall. Cheers from the wilds of Canada. ~ulrich

Most of the big gar RU-vidrs refuse to even try the 1ot method… pretty sad that a “conservationist” uses hooks that harm the fish 10x more then if he just used a tiny live bait hook.

This is why i like fishing with another person they can rope them while you try and control their head. And at my age for safety sakes. But i love me some gar yum. As i have gotten older what we were told were trash fish i have learned they are delicious. Like creek chubs 3 to 4 in, gar, drum, all types of carp.

You know I been watching your channel for a long time now, probably ever since I've been on YT or right close to that, 5 years, anyhow I still don't know what your name is, don't think I've even heard anybody say it on any of your videos either. It's not too big of deal but I might want say it sometimes when I leave a comment, you know? Haha, I was calling another fellar that YT channel too, been calling him" Hey"! Haha, until I finally heard his name on a video or he told me..? Anyway, yeah I like your passion and stuff about the critters you catch or show on your videos. I've run into some ol boy's back in the late 90's , early 2000's , well me and my Uncle have ran into these same fellars a couple times, on the Great Miami river, in Middletown and those guys were catching the big flatheads out of the river there and then taking them and selling them to the local paylakes. Man, we just about got into a fight each time we ran into these fellars, because they couldn't understand that they were hurting the resources in that river, they just couldn't understand that! They actually told us , " you can't catch all the"shovelheads" out of this river"! You know it takes a real dumbass to say something like that, and to even think it! Dumb sobs!!
