It's no exaggeration at all to state "Blazing Saddles" is one of the greatest comedies ever. There's major talent in the film and they made it work. It's a brilliant film. And absolutely hilarious.
@dionst.michael5818
@dionst.michael5818 3 года назад
Oh, I don’t know about that. Maybe not in your opinion but Slim Pickens, Gene Wilder, McCormick and Kahn we’re all VERY well known AND liked at this time. I particularly liked Madeleine in fact. Lol. I was a growing boy! Lol. They were certainly the reason I couldn’t wait to see Blazing Saddles as a preteen. I knew it was going to be good. This was also at a time that Wilder and Pryor we’re enjoying so much box office success for their comedies together so Wilder was no small deal. Even Brooks was well known to me at my young age for good comedic movies. No disrespect intended. They might have not expected the movie to be quite as successful as it ended up being but to say there was no major talent in the movie is simply wrong by any metric.

We were well familiar with Mel Brooks movies and were falling over laughing when the theater was stony silent. The farting scene was the first place where anyone besides us laughed. People got up and left, particularly one couple who had three small children... what were they thinking? Its a Mel Brooks movie! We saw it again in a few weeks (no vcrs or dvds) and word must have gotten out because the whole place fell apart laughing. Best comedy I have seen..except perhaps for Young Frankenstein...

Mel Brooks did do a great job but let's not forget that Blazing Saddles was co-written by Richard Pryor and would have played the Sherif but the studios wouldn't allow it.
@daviddavidson8050

Excellent point! True enough. So many studios blackballed him entirely. Sad.
@gwendolinehall1386
@gwendolinehall1386 5 лет назад
It wasn't that the studio wouldn't allow it. Pryor was supposed to show up for production and no one could find him. He eventually called, I think he was in Chicago, they asked him why and he said he didn't know. He was in some super heavy drug and alcohol abuse and couldn't be relied on to show up and do the work everyday.
@gulfrelay2249
@gulfrelay2249 5 лет назад
Best thing that could've happened. It would've been all about Pryor. There's a popular myth about The Wild Bunch and John Wayne, that Wayne turned down the part of Pike Bishop; too much violence,etc. Truth is, Peckinpah refused him, not for personal reasons, but because" I don't want to make a John Wayne movie".
@daviddavidson8050
@daviddavidson8050 5 лет назад
@@gulfrelay2249 hello. That I did not know! That's an interesting story because as I understand it for years and years Clint Eastwood tried to get John Wayne to make a movie or movies with him, but wouldn't do it because he thought that Eastwood's movies were too bloody and violent. So that goes a long with the Wild Bunch story. Great great movie BTW. Thanks for sharing! Take care.

I Play One On T.V. Back in the 80s I worked with a guy who was a theater manager the night Blazing Saddles was released to the big screen. He said within the first 10 minutes of the movie you were either rolling on the ground laughing your ass off or you were back at the box office window demanding your money back.

I still remember to this day seeing Blazing Saddles in the theatre. Only Airplane rivaled it as far as people laughing out loud goes. They should have supplied the theatres with tissues because our faces were soaked with tears from laughing so hard. We were so young that we couldnt possibly appreciated so many of the lines. So many years later after watching it again we laughed at things we didnt understand previously. Comedies like Blazing Saddles are a lost art form. Long lost.
