So that brake light is for the parking brake, and since it clearly isn't stuck on and dragging your caliper, there is some fault on it. I know most of the coolant system has been addressed, but you said there was still a smell. Check the coolant overflow tank, they are notorious for cracking with age so if that hasn't been replaced that could be it. The drivetrain whine is normal, mine has been doing it for years, put some fresh fluids in it and you're fine. Great buy, welcome to the club!
