As a South Florida "native" I have to commend your awareness of local species. Just hearing how on point you are when you talk about katuk, longevity spinach, and all the cultivars that thrive in our climate made me glad someone is spreading this proper info.

In June every year the Fruit and Spice Park has "Mango Mania" where you can take a class on mangoes and sample around one hundred varieties.

I am a big fan John, I live in south florida and have been wanting to see this park for years. You have prompted me to visit soon. You are so right about bananas. I lived for a few months in the Amazon jungle in Peru and the bananas were harvested daily by the locals and they were small and delicious.

What an asset to the community. One of the "blah blah blah" rules was that cuttings (budwood?) may be taken, with supervision. Shit, this is really nice. Seeds can be taken. Fuck. This is a real asset.

FYI, apples can be grown in any climate. They grow them in africa. Just have to strip the leaves and they will do "dormant" and then flower.

+kyle pitts they will grow fast. The way I grow mine through cold is in the winter cover the trunk with straw and maybe a sheet. In the spring I chainsaw it to a stump and let it regenerate.

Jon is like a lot of Americans. They think the world starts and ends with them. Just don't test them on geography. You'll end up confused. lol
@growingyourgreens

+Sam Williamson I do not think the world starts and ends with Americans. My opinions on avocados is based on imported avocados is that they are not as tasty or good, and sometimes do not ripen properly as compared with California avocados. I will travel to more countries to try the Avocados in the countries there one day.... Im sure there are many varities that taste amazing. Unfortuently the imported ones we get have NOT been good here in the States. They may be picked too early, grown under not the ideal soil conditions, not have the proper varieties, damaged in post harvest practices, etc... Thats all im saying. Industrial agriculture is the problem. My viewers that are growing their own food are the solution.

I am half Chilean, live 15 minutes from the fruit and spice Park and currently have 39 different variety fruit trees on my property. And here are my two cents. Local fruit is 80% of the time better than imports for many different reasons as John pointed out. I love the park but it has much room for improvement. For example An avocado stand suck as the one for the banana stand would be nice since they don't usually ripen on the tree, a tool to punch a hole in the coconuts to drink the water would be stellar. Also it would be awesome if they provided or sold some Sion wood and sold fruit trees to add propagation to their mission. Keep doing your thing John.

John, I love your videos. But I feel like I can only retain a small fraction of the information that you give. I feel like most people will agree that they can't simply sit down and watch your videos. I could go into specifics, but I know it's a bit if your personality to bounce around to many different topics within a 10 minute line. I feel like your views and your points will be so much stronger if you tried to focus your videos. Just my point of view.

so john u got no dreams take your wisdom to all the wasted parks or maybe highway grass just think so many homeless yet you got the mind to fix the homeless free food on public parks so you really care most states have a lot off land but they only grow grass

Sadly they would just genetically engineer bananas, instead of giving us better stuff.

There is a single Mexican family that has a monopoly on avocado exports and they export shit. But there are a ton of small farmers that make some of the most delicious avocados. Some of them are huge, the size of a baby's head. But they don't often get exported because of the avocado cartel. And yea, the family is associated with the drug cartel because they started their avocado business to launder money.
@danielrozel3885

Makes me wonder if there is a similar scenario with the Cavendish( or at least Chiquita,dole,-the big names) Even in Florida where they thrive, their isnt that much availability of the local bananas. I cant complain about store bought but it really is a shame.
