Muchas Gracias por ver el video. We both had fun filming this one! Go here if you are looking to Level Up Your Spanish ⇒ speakspanishfaster.com/youtube
I know this is kinda far fetched but my biggest issue right now is not being able to have someone to speak to in Spanish my main goal this year is to be fluent in my family’s language I am Puerto Rican and I’ve lived on the island for a few years as well in Mira Flores orocovis but I have yet to become fluent I’d ask my friends to help but there just not teachers I don’t know if it’s possible to have one on one conversation but if it’s possible I could really use the tutoring my abuela doesn’t speak English and I want to be able to have a conversation with her comfortably and also just want to finally finish learning my native language
The videos have honestly been really helpful I can usually understand a little Spanish but sense watching these tutorials I can understand a lot of the things you say due to repetition but I want to be able to really crack down on my language learning this year
I am Puerto Rican American and never got to really know Spanish. I am now 14 and trying to learn Puerto Rican Spanish. I really like when you teach Puerto Rican Spanish. I really hope you make more videos for Puerto Rican Spanish.
1. You already know more PT Spanish than you might realise. You probably know a lot of phrases, but may not know what it means. 2. You are young enough to really develop a flawless pronunciation, so hopefully you're still going on practicing.
I’m 13 and I am third generation Puerto Rican. I used to speak fluent Puerto Rican but because my grade was dropping because my Spanish teacher at school didn’t understand my variation of Spanish I decided to quit speaking. My grandmother just recently passed, and I want to learn it in honor of her. Thank you so much for this video.
Same. Black and Puerto Rican from Miami. Heard Spanish all my life but never really started learning till high school. I wanna be fluent enough to be able to flawlessly converse with PR natives
I have a new student from Puerto Rico that speaks almost no English. He's only 6. I want to make him feel welcome and at home. So, I'm determined to learn enough Spanish to communicate with him. I can't imagine being somewhere and not understanding anyone. Thank you for the videos.
I’m 18 years old and grew up a Boricua and Dominican. But my parents never really indulged me into their culture or language so I had a very hard time speaking to mis Abuelos or other familia that only spoke Spanish. Especially Boricua spanish. But I’ve come to find that the same guy who taught me so much basketball over the years is also gonna help me learn about the language of my people! Happy to see this happen and I hope I can build up what was lost long ago
brooo same here but like well mine did teach me the culture and spanish and all that hut i did had some hard times where i just couldnt say any words, but all in all its cool
I have been wanting a video like this for so long! Maybe its just me but i have a really hard time finding online videos about puerto rican spanish, and even finding online tutors who are native to the land. I would love to see more videos like this and helping us with our puerto rican accents/pronunciation! Great video!
I use Preply and I found a tutor there. This channel is also pretty good too where you can hear native speakers speak Puerto Rican style Spanish ru-vid.com
What a pleasure to virtually meet your cousin, Kevin, who you've talked so much about! I'm Black American, but studied Spanish in school for several years and continue to practice. As for this video, I understood you guys in the beginning when you were having a general conversation. However, the video created for the hyperspeed went totally over my head (haha)!! I am at an Advanced level where I can read, write, listen to Spanish music (salsa, bachata, meringue) and watch the Spanish news. However, my weakness is understanding "colloquial" Spanish because I have very little exposure to that environment. When I watch the Spanish news, I understand the journalists well, but when they interview random people on the street who comment using colloquial Spanish, it's a bit of a challenge. That's something I will need to continue to work on. Thanks for the "taste of PR colloquial Spanish", though! :-)
Thanks so much for watching! Definitely keep at it. The problem is that it can be hard sometimes to consume that type of Spanish but I will do my best to get him to film more. Even if he isn't here with me he can still record his audio at home and send it to me. We are trying to figure out ways that we can get this done.
I am sobbing. I've been trying to learn Spanish for so long in order to better connect with my cousins and family, but nothing is worse or more defeating & demotivating than putting so much effort into that only to be still totally lost in actual conversation. This gives me so much hope thank you! Can't wait to see more
Don’t be that emotional lol. Actually, no, I won’t tell anyone how to feel or react! Haha. But just imagine how the non-English speakers out there might feel, like, if the tables are turned. Possibly family members even. Of course, I don’t know who speaks what languages in any given family. But there’s always opportunities and hope to learn!!
Also, make sure that, in addition to whatever learning or studying you’re doing, do other things, like watch videos or movies with Spanish subtitles when available. I also like to adjust the settings & watch English videos with Spanish subtitles, with the awareness that it won’t ever be a completely flawless translation. It is however a good trick for vocab and sentence structure. But many PR videos don’t translate to English too clearly! Haha. For example saying “you go” or “vas” in a Boricua accent without the “s” often translates to “he goes” on subtitles. Mostly verb conjugations, unknown slang words, and stuff like that. I’ve been speaking Spanish for over 25 years yet I still utilize English-to-Spanish subtitles to stay fresh in my own mind! Thats key, if you don’t necessarily see Spanish-speaking friends/family every single day, & you can’t always practice w them. Tbh, speaking w people who know you’re trying to learn is also key. They can help in the moment. Even more easy to do for practice is to do what I always have, and many others, and that’s listen to as much Spanish-language music as you can! Find what musicians, bands & singers you like and listen to them OFTEN. But don’t just listen-whenever possible, you should become a fan! Learn the actual songs you like; study the lyrics! Really helps with overall rhythm, cadence & confident flow for regular conversation… based on your comment, you could try to listen to some of the Boricua artists, and I don’t mean just Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny. Lol. They’re of course great, though it may not be the best accent for someone learning. Ivy Queen is amazing-one of my favorites. And her songs are obvi full of Puerto Rican speech & phrases while still presenting “well” grammatically and not overdoing it on the jerga. I feel that learning Spanish songs really helps with your accent, and with speeding up your proficiency. It should help you with family and communicating, loan words, slang/jerga, unique or common phrases, etc. Ask your family what musicians they like! You’re already 90% there with your relatives being there. I’m not Latino at all! But I did learn spanish because I live in San Diego, it’s everywhere here, and I knew that at a young age. Mostly though it was bc I wanted to-I didn’t have the blessing you have! So you got this! ❤️ 🙏🏽 👍🏽
Im Puerto Rican who has New York born Puerto Rican parents and none of my Grandparents spoke English so being that we spoke spanglish in my home growing up i have a "get by" fluency but i always wanted to be comfortable speaking and im not. Im 39 and i want to pass the language on to my daughters so im so so thankful for this video
I’m a New York Rican and I do pretty good with my Spanish but when I speak with my people from la isla I can hear the difference sometimes it discourages me but I keep going I appreciate your videos 🇵🇷
Thanks so much. I'm an actor and just got cast as a Puerto Rican bodega owner. I speak fluent Spanish but I was looking for that Puerto Rican sound. I'm not Puerto Rican but I wanted to sound authentic. So I think I'll listen to you guys several times tonight and practice my lines with ese sabor que tienen ustedes.
I'm Haitian and I have some friends who's mom only speaks Puerto Rico Spanish and I want to communicate with her and the tías when I go to partys with them. Some of my family has Dominican roots but speaks Puerto Spanish so I thinks it is nice to learn for them
Dame más de Kevin . Tienes que traer primo de vuelta para otro video. Gracias por este video porque me encanta el acento de una boricua. Dame más videos como este. ¡Que brutal! ¡Que Chevere!
Bra this is gold! I just got back from SJ and its not easy to understand them out there. This is needed! I feel Puerto Rican Spanish doesn't get enough exposure. You're doing great work bra, keep going!
My family is Puerto Rican, but after my mother had my siblings she stopped teaching me, so I slowly forgot a lot of my Puerto Rican Spanish, but when I had gone to learn Spanish I could only find Mexican/Spaniard Spanish, and when I spoke that at home I’d get scolded for “speaking it wrong” - I’m so happy I finally found your account 😭
Really appreciate this. There aren't many videos, nor YT content creators, that post Puerto Rican Spanish videos like this. I have been subscribing for over a year and I'm really happy I found your channel. Thank you!
I'll DEFINITELY be using this to help me practice! Growing up half costa rican and half creole i wanted to learn both languages, but now I know I HAVE to learn Spanish first seeing as my boyfriend's is first language is puerto rican Spanish
I am Sarah Eaton’s 13 year old son and I am trying to learn more Spain Spanish because I have a regents exam coming up and it would really help. Thanks a lot for these videos, they are very helpful!!!
It is a dialect just like any other from any other Spanish-speaking country. Not all Spanish-speakers always understand each other the same way. Unique expressions and idioms occur in all the dialects.
Just got back from a week long vacation in PR. I fell in love with the beaches, the neighborhood, the people and the culture especially the way y'all speak. Really appreciate these lessons. Much love from Chicago.
Hola Rocky! I THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching your video with you and your cousin Kevin. Yes! Please invite Kevin to appear in more videos. It's nice to see the family bond and how much fun the both of you had while teaching us Puerto Rican Spanish. I found myself laughing along with you guys! LOL To see videos like this makes learning fun! I've already signed up for your Speak Spanish Faster and am "currently" in your 2023 Become a Spanish Speaker Workshop. I'm learning so much! Thanks Rocky for sharing this video. :-)
My cunado had a game when in PR , after our party (outdoor pig roast / fiesta Navidad ) 2AM (8 of us) (drunk) I would speak to the neighbor in Spanish , he would reply in English , it was great fun and they laughed at us . mi ex esposa es puertorriqueña.
Could you please make more videos like these? It`s very helpful in order to "get in the waters" with that accesnt, so I can understand it more easily, it really helps! By the way, I have a problem with understanding words and phrases when listening to Spanish songs, I don`t know why, probably because the tempo of the words changes and they become inrecgnizable for me, but I`m not sure if other people have the same issue :D
Gracias por sus videos. Hablo español pero voy a Puero Rico el Septiembre y quiero hablar como la gente. Muchas gracias por su ayuda. He aprendido mucho de sus videos. Conoce algunas películas o series Borricuas que recomienda?
Thank you cousin for your words of encouragement. I'm learning Spanish so i can move to MX. I'm half Mexican.. Spanish was my father's first language but German was my mother's first language. So here i am, stuck in the middle!

This is the Spanish I hear around me here where I live in Florida. So different from our Mexican Spanish where I’m from in Califas (California). I love this series because it helps a lot. I
I don’t know if I said any of that right but I figured give it a shot. You definitely make me proud to be Puerto Rican. Thanks rocky I hope nothing but the best for you.
buen video, of being in Orlando in the late 90's lol....the Spanish I know people say it sounds boriqua-ish. cuando yo aprendere Espanol con fluidez, ire a hablar Boricua or as much as i can sound.....growing up i felt closer you latinos and Puerto Ricans in general because that's who i was around down there and when i went to the military. my sister used to hate on me.... "Junior, you think your Puerto Rican" lol.... i didn't think i was i just embraced the culture.... small minds limit... great minds expand. now 20 years later im beginning to make a better effort to learning
I’m trying to learn how to speak more Spanish specifically Puerto Rican spanish to be closer to my heritage in that way I already speak it more Spanglish but I want to speak it fluently especially for the upcoming Puerto Rican parade in June
Bienvenidos Kevin! Rock, I live out in California now so thank you for your great videos helping keep me up with the PR accent! I was in San Juan for 8 days in April just now and your videos were helpful to prepare pa platicar con mi gente en SJ. Mayoketchup jaja
Rocky !! 🇵🇷👍🏽 another great video ! Tu y tu amigo son fantastico! Muchas gracias for all the Puerto Rican Spanish you have supplied me ever since I started following you. Mi familia y yo nos Vamos a Puerto Rico Sabado.. so excited to try what you’ve taught me. Gracias amigos!!
Gosh, I can’t thank you enough for this type of video! I’m half Costa Rican and half Puerto Rican! However, I was very much raised boricua. My father speaks to me in Spanish and I respond in English! I really want to learn how to speak it fluently and this video has encouraged me to buy your program. I’m really tired of sounding like a “gringa” to my family members. I just need to sound like I know. Haha thanks!
I learned Spanish from Mexicans in El Paso, Tx. I am now living on the East Coast and I have Puerto Rican patients as well as Mexican patients. I feel like they understand me, but I don't completely understand them. I am a physical therapist. I need all the help I can get.
El mayoketchup! Perfecto! Thanks for another great video with 100% genuine PR Spanish. Being half Puerto Rican, but growing up in England, your channel is an incredible resource for me.
Wepa! Soy de Puerto Rico me olvido mucho español cuando mudé pa florida, pero poco a poco me recuerdo jaja gracias por los videos, cuando práctica yo recuerdo mucho
Thank y’all for this video!! I been listening to this over and over so I can learn new PR vocab and to practice the accent!! Preciate y’all fa real!! Desde Houston, Texas con el corazón de puertorriqueño 🇵🇷
