The owner of this snow blower was kind enough to bring the needed parts for me to replace on this 7HP Briggs and Stratton snowblower.

Brought back memories of learning how to replace the spring or rope in the old Briggs recoils ..I had a few springs come flying out at me !!!
@BrucesShop

They can do that if not held tight eh!

Another great repair. These videos are very helpful for others who need or want to tackle such repair work themselves. Thanks so much for sharing these videos with us.

Those pull start rewinds can be a pain from the early years to these new designs. Great fix! Cheers my Friend! Sean~

The owner didn't mind that i "bent" the old spring as he was using just the electric start anyway. I hope it holds. More bad weather coming by the way. :-)

Awesome job man, I hate when a mower, Snowblower, etc, comes in with no pull rope, those springs are always a pain, and I must say, you did a hell of a job, Wtg, as a rule of thumb, once I get a device in, I check the rope, if it even looks slightly old or Shredded I replace it, another good thing to do is, once you have a knot on both ends I always hit it with a lighter and slightly melt the knot to ensure it won't come undone, again awesome job.

Yes. I pull mine in a vise. Different process same result. I can undo them as I change my mind all the time

I stopped taking the shroud off of those to replace the pull cords on those. I just quick drill the rivets out and pop new rivets in to re attach the cord assembly. Saves so much pain.
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 6 лет назад
Yes me too. I love my rivet gun. but I was working on the spring and it went OK. Thanks for the comment. All comments are appreciated.
@patthesoundguy
@patthesoundguy 6 лет назад
Bruce Pender I'm going to pick up one of those rivet gun sets from princess auto that are threaded inserts so I can bolt the assembly back on for future service no more drilling rivets on that particular machine. 😀

you done good Bruce. I hate dealing with those rewind springs especially on weed eaters and leaf blowers chainsaws and so forth they can be a real pain sometimes. You have one up on me that I wish I new how to do and that is welding I have thought about buying a welder and trying to learn it would come in handy for me at times. Have a good day. God Bless

Great job Bruce , these modern rewinds seem a bit tinnier & tackier than the Briggs & Stratton ones of the '70,s & '80,s , & they can be very difficult to get right , even the rope diameter can mess things up , rock on mate .
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 6 лет назад
Yes they are a fiddly thing

Hello again Bruce , I saw your video on reaming out the carb main jet on a little Yamaha generator due to an over - lean mixture , great advice , thanks , my neighbours have a ride - on cylinder mower that has a californian spec Briggs & Stratton engine on it ,I,ve completely rebuilt the engine for her ( widow ) & it has exactly the same problem , the B & S service guy here in england said this engine should never have found it';s way over here , as the carb is not jetted correctly for our altitude & weather , but it is pressed in , & it,s the only one you can get for that type of carb anyway , so I,ll do what you did , VERY gradually , until I get the governor to just stop bouncing . Please keep up the videos , it,s like being back at college ! Best Regards .

hey bruce this is what I use for your frozen up mower cables, I soak them in apple cider vinegar for 24 hour's and that all way's work's for me then just lube them up to save some money, unless they are bent,

I'm guessing that "Briggs" engine is not made in the US. Too bad the owner just couldn't use the electric start until you could get him a new spring!
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 6 лет назад
He was in a hurry. A storm was coming
@fleetwin1
@fleetwin1 6 лет назад
I'm sure it will be fine, as long as he doesn't let go of the rope, that is what kills the springs...Your new glove grip should prevent that!
@MissouriOldTimer

I guess I'm just a bit over cautious but when I have to weld that close to a gas tank I lay a wet shop towel over the filler cap,,
