Pulley & Belt Replacement on Harley Dyna

Harley belt and pulley replacement on Dyna Superglide. Only two special tools, and it is basically the same procedure of all Harleys. Remember to torque everything to spec, and use thread locker on the clutch and compensator nuts.

Hi, thanks for the video. I need to replace the front pulley and belt on my '97 Heritage Softail. Going to a 34t pulley from a 32 tooth. This really helps. Looks like breaking loose the pulley nut will be the toughest part.

See if 50 or 60 link industrial chain will match the sprocket. You can put a length around one row of teeth in both sprockets, then try and break the nuts free.

How long does this normally take, my belt has worn out and needs to be changed along with the pulleys and the bike shop is charging me £66 per hour plus the £800 for the parts and I want to make sure they are not trying to rip me off

About 4-6 hours. You can do it

On the pully, I torque to 60 lbs and then have to use air impact for the rest. I can't do it by hand either. Lol

How come you didnt replace final drive seal all that work to get to might as well replace the seals there not that expensive,. I replace all seals in there whenever i go that DEEP into it,shifter seal , main crank seal , tranny seals ect then bike wont leak oil all-over place i was just wandering 🤔😎

Are you referring to the seal on the trans case? Honestly I just didn’t think of it. It would have been a good idea to replace it too.

During this video . And address the belt or transmission pulley . I wanna go up 2 teeth on trans pulley and replace belt with a bigger one .😢So waist off time .

Good to know that three years ago I didn’t answer the questions that you would want to ask today. It’s the same procedure, regardless of what gear ratio you use.

you really do not need to film draining the primary oil ...... we all know how to drain out oil man...

I teach classes in motorcycle repair and maintenance for the DIY crowd. I have found that some people do not know where the drain plug is, and some do not know that Big twin Harleys have separate primary oil. And that's okay, I am here to share knowledge to whoever needs it.
