@@FrankFreezy_I love your reactions I just found your channel from the Forrest Gump reaction and I've subscribed! I've actually just finished a bunch of your videos and Tom Hanks was in another fantastic movie that was heavily based off of true events and that's the movie Apollo 13. If you haven't heard of this real life space mission definitely try to go into this movie blind.
"I gotta stab her three times?!" The overdose scene is brilliantly comedic in the darkest ways. Travolta dragging Uma around, Stoltz in a panicked frenzy, and Patricia Arquette adding to the chaos 🤣🤣🤣
Same. I could watch Jules and Vincent banter for a long time. They probably are friends in real life, but I think it's just professional actors and superb script writing. This was one of the few films that really changed the way movies were made.
@@FrankFreezy_ another movie where you can easily see other directors picking up on some of the new techniques, is an underrated gem which came out not long after this, called Get Shorty. Definitely worth a react. 😃👍
Not a big deal but, if I’m correct, the characters of Jules & Vincent had only recently met, maybe even that day on the way over to meet Marsellus’ young partners. You can also kinda tell in 2 parts I noticed where Jules tells Vincent to back off because, ‘he’s getting a lil pissed’ getting clowned about giving him a foot rub and in Jimmy’s bathroom after Vincent bloodies up the towel. Jules tells him that he respects him but not to put him in this position. They both read as 2 “professionals” who are both dangerous but respectful of each other.
Ving Rhames' first name is actually Irving. His acting school classmate, Stanley Tucci, gave him the abbreviated nickname, Ving, and Rhames kept it as his professional name.
That was the most articulate description I've ever heard of a Quentin Tarantino movie. The fact that you said the dialogue drives the scenes / movie. Great reaction.
What other descriptions have you heard? That’s literally what Tarantino is known for. Dialogue is the first mention in all descriptions of his movies. He’s called the king of dialogue.
@@roems6396 wow you managed to take a nice compliment and turn it around as if I'm stupid. A guy literally never seen a Quentin Tarantino movie and my comment was directed to him. Get a life
@@timbeatty8411 That’s more of a you problem. Nothing I said was speaking to you as if you were stupid. I was genuinely asking you what other descriptions you have heard that didn’t mention dialogue. If you read that as derisive, then that’s on you.
The odds of seeing Marcellus were pretty even. He was staking out the apartment with Vincent since Jules had quit and had gone out for coffee, leaving Vincent alone at just that moment. Butch hung around just long enough for all those moments to line up the way they did. If he had left immediately he would have missed Marcellus at the stop light.
Vincent and Marcellus also probably didn't have their guard up, they staked out Butch's place in the highly unlikely event that Butch would return there, just to make sure. They had no idea about the watch and the significance of it, and they must have assumed that Butch had already left town the night of the fight.
And it should have been Jules, not Marcellus, but Jules had recently quit (so the boss had to step in). Jules wouldn’t have left the gun there (if it was his and not Vincent’s) and probably wouldn’t have left at all if his partner was going to be in the bathroom for a while.
I saw this movie in the theater two nights in a row. The crowd was wild! Ooohs, Aaahs, screams, laughter - one of the best theater experiences I've ever had.
This movie was obviously a wild ride but it was a good comedy break from the emotional roller coasters I've been on lately! Thank you all for watching. Who is your favorite character from the movie?
it was a unique movie and each character had spunk and personality .. but they all make me very uncomfortable. lol I commented on the Forrest Gump movie, but do you mind revealing where you are from? (I actually thought you were from the US) PS: I would love you to react to the movie Life of Pi.
The odds are good that Butch could run into Marsellus. Vince and Marsellus were waiting in Butch's apartment. Marsellus went out for coffee and donuts, while Vince went to the bathroom. Heroin makes you constipated. Didn't you notice the two big cups and box of donuts, in the big man's hands? The crosswalk and donut shop, were behind Butch's apartment building.
@@TrainerInTraining exactly. I appreciate you saying they make you feel uncomfortable. There was this scene where I was like ''poor Vincent'' after he got shot and then I thought to myself and I was like "no, he just shot a man in the head'' . These men are fun but they're brutal criminals and murderers. Sorry I haven't gotten to that comment. It's been a lot of comments lately. I am from Nigeria. I was born and raised there. I come to the US in 2014 and I've been here since. And I have seen the Life of Pi a long time ago :) really good movie
I like how you kept calling Jules "Pit" because he used that name with Brett. It was an intimidation tactic. He was saying, "I'm the hole in the ground that you can't talk your way out of."
And it's kind of a poetic, joking way to say things. Remember in the bar when the bartender said "My name is PAUL and this is between Y'ALL." Jules says "My name is PITT, and you ain't talking your way outta this SHIT." Or I can say "My name is JAMES and ain't nothing CHANGED." It was a subtle way to show that those gangsters have their own inside-the-circle way to speak.
Funny thing about the character who says “My name is Paul”, he’s played by actor Paul Calderón. In the script, he has the nickname English Dave, which becomes English Bob in the final movie, but the name given to the character in the credits is just Paul.
Getting administered epinephrine is like getting slapped awake and remembering suddenly you're in a war zone. That was a pretty accurate portrayal of the effects of an injection by Uma Thurman.
Can’t go wrong with a Tarantino movie. His quirkiness and style suck you right in, keep you mesmerized, and before you know it, the movie ends, only to leave you wanting to watch it all over again. You said you’ve watched his films before. Curious to know which ones you’ve seen. My favourites are this one, Resevoir Dogs, Django Unchained and Jackie Brown. It was fun seeing you experience this for the first time Frank.
You explained it perfectly. For sure I've seen Django unchanged, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Little Nicky, Desperado, and hateful eight. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching my video
Great movie, still watching your reaction 😁 just wanted to say they weren’t smoking weed in the restaurant, Vincent was rolling his own cigarettes. In the scene where Mia is going through Vincent’s jacket pockets, she rolls another cigarette using his bag of Drum tobacco, which is a Dutch brand because he just got back from Amsterdam 🤯
@@dannya8614 hehe no I googled it to confirm that it wasn’t the famous Red Apple brand that is featured in so many QT movies, and learned this fact today myself. I think Butch might smoke Red Apples or something, not sure
@@FrankFreezy_ you should watch and react to Django: Unchained and Inglorious Basterds, if you haven't already! They're both great, and by Tarantino. Even though one's about slavery and the other's about WWII, they're not like sad movies. More like funny, somewhat brutal, thought-provoking, intense dramas - very entertaining in all aspects!
Hey man just found your channel looking for pulp fiction reactions just an FYI there's a huuuuge amount of people that will watch a reaction of EVERY SINGLE Tarintino movie I highly recommend you making that a priority at some point. I'd really like to see Resivior Dogs next. It's not Tarintinos best but it is my favorite.
@@FrankFreezy_I wasn't even looking! U just popped here first thing & I've never seen your face before & have watched these reactions since pretty much the start. So yeah, good job, friend! When get a min will check this out & your channel & if have flicks I like will sub! ✌️🌎❤️
I really appreciate that you pause instead of talking over your uploads. I wish more react channels would do that because they end up missing a lot, especially verbose movies like Tarantino makes. I don't know how it is during the edit but I imagine it would make that a somewhat smoother process because you can easily excise the best bits. It certainly plays well as a viewer and I watch an unhealthy amount of reactions. Another banger.
Thank you for saying that. I appreciate it. I watch a lot of reaction channels as well and that can definitely be an issue for the viewer. I can say everything I want to say when I pause and then continue the movie without missing much. That way people who don’t want to listen to me talk and skip to the next part of the reaction but people who appreciate what I have to say can enjoy it as well.
Saw this in theaters when it came out and there was a lot of hype. And it was deserved. It was SO different from anything I had ever seen. The dialogue. The ultra violence blended with comedy. It was just wild and blew my mind. Very satisfying to see people discover it. Enjoyed your reaction.
I saw Pulp Fiction on opening night in 1994. It was the most shocking theater experience ever! The dialogue, the violence, and that one scene that doesn't need to be mentioned.
What’s in the briefcase? Marsellus Wallace’s soul. In Greek mythology there is a Greek God named Marsellus and how you “capture” him is to take his soul through the back of his head. If you remember there were some scenes showing the back of Marsellus Wallace’s head and he had a bandaid on the back of it. That’s because his soul was in the briefcase. 🙂 ……but seriously, it was a MacGuffin, just something to move the plot along. “In fiction, a MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin) is an object, device, or event that is necessary to the plot and the motivation of the characters, but insignificant, unimportant, or irrelevant in itself.”-Wikipedia
@@FrankFreezy_ I was working in a video store when Pulp Fiction came out. We had heard everyone raving about it, so when our boss said here's some tickets and go get acquainted with it, we did. All I can say is that Quentin Tarantino went completely left of centre with it because it was nothing anyone had expected. To me, it wasn't so much as a movie, it was f.... up shit that everyone including me enjoyed.
I like the fact that Jukes believes in Divine Intervention and wants to get out the business. It shows that there is still good in him. Also can you image Jules as a pastor? Lol
I love this movie and how many things spiraled out of it. I always loved that Sam Jackson was catching hell about leaving the game but had he not he would have died with John Travolta but, intended or not, that might not have been the case. Maybe Jackson being there would have saved Travolta. Maybe that whole vignette wouldn't have happened. So there's a universe out there where Zed and his homies are still out there doing their thing. 😶🌫️
This is my favourite film of all time, mainly because I saw it at the cinema when it came out and I was the perfect age -18. Only recently did I realise it is a movie about redemption. Samuel Jackson has his Damascene conversion and is redeemed from his life as a hitman. Bruce Willis goes back to save Marcellus Wallace when he didn't have to, and is therefore redeemed. Pumpkin and Honeybunny get schooled and are redeemed. Vincent Vega scoffs at all this and gets killed.
This Movie was John Travoltas comeback movie, he didn't have any big movie since the last 70's/early 80's with movies like Saturnight Fever. Tarantino also brought back, Pam Grier in "Jackie Brown". I just love the dialogs in Tarantino movies, but this one is one of the better, as you mentioned a couple of times Samuel & Travoltas chemestry are just so great. And the amunt of famous quotes in this.
19:39 Tarantionos stories always start out wholesome and logic and then go OFF the rails! :D it is the same in Resevoir dogs with the "Like a Virgin" story - suddently it is all about BBCs! But also in general, he loves the crazy twists and his overall plots as well as individual scenes, characters etc is usually built up like that.
There is no explanation to what is in the case, Tarantino has said this himself. So its up to the viewer, some people think its Marcellus's soul - and that the plaster on the back of his neck in his first scene is where it was removed from his body. Basically its a plot device, to keep the story moving - its a McGuffin, its not of any importance to the story apart from being a 'thing' that is moving the story along ie gives reasons for characters to be where they are and doing what they are doing - it could be anything, from money, baseball cards or a hat - the object has no real impact only the characters motivations to obtain and keep the case to deliver it, thats the impact.
I love almost every Tarantino movie, but every time I watch one my brain is like "Well that was good, but it was no Pulp Fiction." Just a wild ride. I always fast forward through the end of the Vince and Mia scene, ODs and needles make my skin crawl. People have been trying to copy this movie for like 30 years and haven't come close.
I remember thinking there's a whole lot of messed up things someone could do to a guy with a pair of pliers and a blow-torch. Also, Zed wasn't a real cop, just a security guard like at a mall or something.
The odds of Butch meeting Wallace where he did were pretty good. He was close to Butches house because he was the 2nd guy with Vincent. Wallace left the gun on the counter when he went out to get coffee and donuts. Classic stakeout food.
This film is a masterpiece of writing!! 34:34 - I know that look you give here, what you are thinking right there...but context matters I think. In that restaurant scene at the end, if you listen closely and look in the background of almost every shot, you will notice that this was one take for the first scene and this final scene of the movie - The robbers doing their bit and Jules/Vincent doing their breakfast are on different tables and are being filmes at literally the same times with different film crews around them!!! You can hear Jules and Vincent in the background talking in the first scene of the film and vice versa you can hear Yolanda and her BF talking in the background as Jules says he wants to walk the Earth and all that in that scene! You also can see both the robbers and Jules/Vincent in the background if you look carefully! I have had that wallet for 20 years!! Still have it today, love it so much!!!
What are the odds? Well, pretty good!… See, Marsellus was waiting for Butch with Vincent at Butch’s apartment but it looks like he went out for donuts and coffee when Butch came back to get his watch since Marsellus was holding a pink donut box with coffee cups on top when Butch encountered Marsellus at the crosswalk and “wrecked the Honda” into him. BTW Zed wasn’t a cop, he was a mall security guard, lol
8:27 Samuel L. Jackson does an interview where he talks about how every year there's a new crop of kids who become old enough to watch Pulp Fiction for the first time. So he can't go anywhere now without someone running up to him and saying, "SAY WHAT AGAIN!!! I DOUBLE DARE YOU!!!" as he screams and cowers in fear lol.
I've seen this flick way back in a sneak preview when I knew nothing about Tarantino and oh man, little did i know. It was fun watching you react to this classic. Thank you Frank.
"Fight Club" , "The Boondock Saints" and "Trainspotting" also come to mind if you are travelling through the greatest (late) 90s movies! It was a golden age for sure.
Great reaction to one of my favorite Tarantino movies. This one only gets better uopn repeat viewings. You pick up on a lot of little things. For instance: Marsellus was close to Butch's house because he had gone out to get coffee and donuts while Vincent waited at Butch's apartment. Since Jules had retired already it was Vince and Marsellus that went to the apartment. Vincent is on the toilet a few times because heroin caused constipation. In fact that ended up killing him. We assume that Mia and Vincent won the twist contest, however if you listen closely later in the movie you hear a new report that the trophy had been stolen. So they actually lost and then stole the trophy
This movie restored my faith in movies. In the late 80's I got sick of action movies that all ended with a bad guy falling off a tower onto a spike. Pulp Fiction and 12 Monkeys were like mana from heaven. Well, mana from somewhere.
years and years ago i pieced this movie together in chronological order, the beginning would be when they go see Brett and get the briefcase, and the ending would be when Butch & Fabienne ride off on the motorcycle - err the “chopper” with “Zed’s dead baby, Zed’s dead” being the last line 👍
Random trivia for you: As you may or may not know, Samuel Jackson makes an appearance in one of the Star Wars movies, and his character has a lightsaber. I saw an interview with Jackson where he mentioned that (I think) the art department had engraved “bad motherf’ker” on his lightsaber; fully spelled out, of course. :) Oh, and if you're hunting for a Samuel Jackson film, I recommend Long Kiss Goodnight. Jackson's on the record as it being one of his personal favorites, if I recall correctly.
This movie was very consequential. The dialogue tapped into a realistic approach to how people randomly talk to each other. The rearrangement of chronical scenes. This movie made and revamp so many acting careers. Before this movie, Samual L Jackson had no significant roles. This movie recharged Travolta and Bruce Willis’s career. Uma Thurman and Ving Rhames also became a household name after this Classic. This is where it started
With the drug overdose scene... A lot of people seem to miss the fact that Vince was shooting Heroin and that what he had in his pocket was pure heroin that needs to be "prepped" like at his friends place (bent spoon and fire and stuff before injecting) MIA , a coke-head, accidentally discovers a packet in Vinces pocket which she "Mistakenly" thinks is Cocaine . So apparently when you snort pure heroin = Overdose. Also as a side note Vinces drug friend mentions that only an idiot wouldnt know the difference (Or something like that) , Probably not fair to Mia , she just honestly didnt know..I knew she had Heroin the first time I saw this movie(but I didnt know that snorting it would do that-) This was a great scene. When I saw this at the movies in the 90's some guy screamed about his girlfriend who passed out of something when Vince stabbed her with the needle. Shocked us all in the theater.
"What are the odds?" Quite a lot. Marcellous was in the area because he was at Butch's apartment, waiting together with Vincent. He left Vincent to keep guard at the apartment, and went to get coffee, that's why he is nearby and that's why he is carrying two coffees. So when Butch left the house he fell into Marcellous after driving a couple of blocks.
Yeah this movie is heavy in dialog and shock value scenes. I like it. I’m a big fan of interviews and dialog in general. I have a wide variety of taste in movies and music. The line where Vincent says “ Aw man, I shot Marvin in the face.” was improvised. It wasn’t in the script. Lol. The Breakfast Club is another movie that’s heavy on dialog. You might like to react to it one day, and maybe From Dusk Til Dawn, Which Tarantino stars in and wrote.
According to some inflation calculator I found on google and which is probably not that accurate, $5 in 1990 is about $12 today. That is indeed an expensive fuckin' milkshake.
Oh hell no. Definitely not by a long shot. I was thinking they were going to catch feelings for each other, and Wallace was going to find out, try to kill Vincent. And jules was going to have to choose who he is more loyal to, and end up helping Vincent takedown Wallace. That was my prediction
Absolutely loved your reaction....almost as much as i love this movie, i remember watching this in the 90s and i never get tired of it....true master piece!!! Quinton tarantino is one of my favourite directors!!!! Every film of his is full on action guided by amazing dialogue. "Inglourious basterds" is another great tarantino film....a ww2 movie with great action, characters, brutality and comedy....a must see movie!!! Can't wait for the next one. Take care my guy 🙂
2:20 John Travolta's career was stagnant before Tarantino revived it by casting him in "Pulp Fiction". The role lifted him (for a while) back into the Hollywood "A" list. Later he took too many bad roles/movies and diminished his bankability. He's become like Nicolas Cage - with both of them you never know if their movies will be great or terrible.
❤ ❤ I remember seeing the movie in Theatres to a sold out weekend crowd. Unfortunately we only found seats at the 2nd row from the screen 😅imagine how I first watched all the 'dramaction' up close...Great way to start the New Year. Movie choice on point! If you're interested in seeing my favorites of Tarentino, please look to react to True Romance - equally as entertaining as Pulp Fiction..and check out From Dusk til Dawn. Thank you for sharing your watch with us ❤d the reactions to the humorous parts.so much of the movie
they sent a costume assistant to get an afro wig for Samuel L Jackson. the assistant didn’t know what an afro was supposed to look like so he came back with the Jheri Curl wig instead
