I agree, one of the nastiest opponents in the game in TD, losing the combo because of dodging the wrong was is annoying as smeg. Was all worth it though, unlike most who don't get back up after being knocked down (I.E not getting up in 10 seconds), he actually wakes up, pulls out his bottle and finds it empty - was a rather epic moment.
I didn't think this guy was so hard, but then I watched Clement's LP. His words about Soda Popinski TD being the hardest fight in the game definitely got to me.
Meanwhile in Soviet Russia, the scientists are trying to invent the first soda that acts as an energy drink/fatigue stopper. They used Soda Popinski as their test subject, and, as expected, his vitality and strength improved greatly. What they didn't know is that the only side effect is the user will have farsighted vision and drunken eyesight, making landing a punch very difficult.
He's easier to take out more quickly, but he's tougher IF you don't KO him quickly enough. His speed and strength increase every time he gets knocked down and the fact that he gets stunned longer each time can only be taken advantage of if you can consistently dodge his swings. He gets VERY unpredictable past the first round, but most of the uploads of his TD version beat him on the first round.
Glass Joe is actually kind of badass: He can't fight, he goes down in one hit to his namesake, but he DOESN'T STOP TRYING. It can't even be sheer stupidity, even a complete and total moron would have stopped by now, but he's still out there and he's still trying. Thats freaking amazing.
Intro: Ever since losing to Little Mac. Soda Popinski has received help from scientists who have chemically enhanced his drinks so that when he drinks them he becomes so strong that he is able to pull soda trucks with ease. Now he is drinking gallons of the new drinks so he'll be in great shape for when he challenges Little Mac for the belt.
Did anyone else notice that while mac is in the middle of punching the timmer goes slower but when he is not punching the timer goes like 3 times as fast.
I haven't gotten to title defense yet... but for som reason I really enjoyed fighting Soda even though he hurt me baddly... he's one of my favorite boxers in the game.
heads up when me and my brother were playing punch out he went face to face with soda popinski and when he fought him in noticed that in the right corner in the back in saw donkey kong.
Damn, never knew you could star punch him when he pulls out the soda. Been stuck on this dude for years. He's got a very specific routine, but for some reason I can never get the timing down past his first knock down.
Easily the hardest opponent that I’ve ever faced on any of the punch out games. He’s harder than Mike Tyson, he’s harder than Nick and Rick Breezer. I’ve been struggling with this piece of shit for like two months now.
Anyone else notice that in the intro vids, all the main characters are really well detailed and all the minor characters (Like the scientists) are really basic and have pac-man eyes?
the trick is to dodge him consecutively so your punches go up every time he's stunned. going for the 15 punches in a stun challenge requires you to remember a lot of what he does.
He's actually a bit easier in Title Defense because the number of succession of punches you get to land on him after dodging one of his attacks increases by one every single time, meaning he get's more and more punishable every time you dodge him and he's no tougher to dodge than he was during the previous contender match against him.
+Yu Narukami Stop lyring. Okay, i know i seem like the idiot who raved about how soda popinski was impossible above, but seriously. he's NOT easy. I swear im pressing dodge on his uppercuts but he is barely even possible. Harder than bald bull
On NES just watch him carefully. He'll always start with two jabs (easily dodged, and after the first jab get ready to nail his face when he rocks back for the second jab for a star) Then he'll do two uppercuts. If you delay your response you'll get a star, otherwise you can just rock his head. When your hearts get low, he might shuffle his feet Three Times. This means three fast jabs are coming, BUT you can counter-punch after each jab... just don't forget to dodge the following jab.
Soda Popinski returns after turning to the best scientists that Rubles can buy. Will his new formula bring victory, or wil Mac knock him flat once more?
Here's a trick for Aran Ryan: Knock him down with a punch to the head, and make sure that you have at least 1 star when you do so. Just before he raises his whip in an attempt to hit you as he goes down, star punch him. If you get the timing right, it's an instant win.
you may be interested to hear this then. punchout is filled with caricatures of different nationalities mainly utilizing stereotypes. originally soda popinski was going to be called vodka drunkenski. then issues between the us and russia escalated and they changed it to soda popinski to avoid problems with russia.. leaving us with our bottle of bubbles... no seriously he's pretty much a bottle of bubbles. every knock back leaves a trail of bubbles
Did you notice he gets red when you hit him and.... Each time he gets knocked down he rages more AND ONCE MORE! He gets faster each time you knock him down
Like the other boxers in Title Defense Mode, he's trying to find a way to become stronger so he can beat Mac. In his case, he had a special soda developed to improve his speed and strength.
i just noticed something the first time he gets dazed u do a total of 2 punches then 3 then 4 then 5 etc. count it from the first dae. it increases by one
Except he's faster,can go into "Super rage" where his hooks are fast and uppercuts faster,his drink restores full health and causes Super Rage,and he basically loses all semblance of a pattern unless you take care of him in round 1.
LilMaster NinjaGrei - Soda Fury had a limit of 5 uppercuts in contender, it's the same in TD. -Rage animations remain the same. -He could do that left hook in contender too. That doesn't change that he was the least changed character in TD, I mean Glass Joe got a Headgear, King Hippo a manhole, Great Tiger got new attacks, Bald Bull was unable to get knocked down, etc.

yeah i have heard of the vodka drunkinsky thing myself, so i know exactly what you mean. I was just saying it's funny how a man could train in only a SPEEDO in honestly one of the coldest places in the world. Admittedly I've gone for runs in sweats and a sleeveless shirt, but what the did was crazy.
The only person I found easier in Title Defense was Aran Ryan (and that's because everything new about him is easy to figure out). If you don't beat Soda Popinski in round 1, you are asking for a nightmare fight. He gets a lot worse as the fight goes on.
