I love this insanity. I'm addicted to watching every documentary I can find about every aspect of the sick, dysfunctional, brutal relationship that has dragged on since the very first time a hostile force from England ever stepped foot onto the shore of Ireland. The Irish would be completely justified if they should choose to go bat shit berserk on every last remnant and residue of English presence anywhere in Ireland, including and especially the North. Being an American, I can't help feeling deep admiration and respect for the gutsy English lunatics who founded our original thirteen colonies back in the early 1600s--it was a suicide mission and they pulled it off, not knowing they were stepping onto a continent peopled with millions of physically fit savages who would have exterminated the English had they the ability to see what lay ahead in the future of North America's indigenous societies. Those early English settlers just blundered forth, blessed by their ignorance of the magnitude of the challenge facing them and their blind commitment to their petty goals. However, for what various English rulers and regimes did to the Irish for 900+ years, the English and their protestant allies in Ireland's North deserve every drop of grief they suffer at the hands of the Irish. It's a slow motion historical train wreck. And I can't stop watching it and studying it. I can't decide who's sicker: them for carrying it on for so long or me for enjoying it so much.
