I studied art all of my life from childhood. I majored in art throughout school. But it was only in my late 40s that I decided to focus on painting. Since then, that is all I have done. I am now in my mid 60s. And my portfolio is fairly large. I am not famous, but my art is hanging on many walls. This makes me feel wonderful. It is never too late to create art. Art is literally ageless for both the work and the artist. I will be creating for as long as I am physically capable.

I started painting at 67, no experience, no expectations, free to do as I wish, trying all kinds of styles, every canvas is a journey.

My favorite client is actually a surgeon who is 82 years old. When we meet to discuss his project, two of the three hours are spent discussing mindset, and Neuroscience, and spiritual experiences and 1 hour is on the project. But what truly amazes me is how excited he is about commercializing the surgical implements we are designing. He acts like he will live forever and he brings that energy to his life. So when i, as a soon-to-be 61-year-old artist and designer get down over the fact that I've only sold a couple pieces of Art or a few CDs of music, a phase that I'm going through right now as my birthday is approaching, it helps me to keep my creative energies flowing reflecting upon the client of mine, and now seeing your video. My whole life I felt that I am a full-time artist, but I've only been a part-time marketer salesperson.

Helpful, thank you. I feel like I have a pretty solid skill set and even teach oil painting, but I’ve got a late start to generating a solid income as an artist. And a lot of this is on social media for sale which I am learning, but it feels like it’s happening a little too slowly for my liking lol. I do enjoy watching your videos and get quite a bit out of them so thank you! And any additional videos about how to market your art will be very helpful! Cheers! 🥰❤️🙏

I love this video and your channel. Thank you for the inspiration and motivation. I’m 57 and excited to pursue an art career. I definitely need a creative outlet for my dreams and hallucinations. I’ve restarted with gouache and will transition to oils when I have a dedicated studio.

Good stuff :-) I do believe the art world is hard on people in a matter what age they are lol I am better at art now than I was when I was younger and I thought I knew everything and didn’t push myself to do better. I am happy with my skill level and continue to progress, but this industry is very tricky overwhelming and confusing! Especially if you are a traditional artist and don’t use social media. I wish It could be simple like back in the days of those artists you mentioned in the beginning. I wish I could take my stuff and go stand on a street corner and just have people buy it and not have any other strange things to worry about, like legalities, taxes and such. I know you have many videos on these individual subjects. I do watch them :-) but it’s still overwhelming! And here I sit in my studio, still haven’t sold even one piece.… Hopefully my day will come and it’s right around the corner! Thanks for your videos love your content and your energy.😉❤️

It most certainly is overwhelming. Being able to combine marketing, sales, creating art, customer support, shipping, research,... Is not easy. Each of those things is a job in and of itself. Give yourself the time to grow and learn just like you did when you learned the craft of creating. You got this!

I fit the profile: no talent, old as hell, and flat broke. Now all I need is an interesting story, because people buy the story, not so much the piece itself.

43? That's nothing, you are not even half way yet. You could postpone for another 10 years and still easily have 30-40 years left

I’m about to turn 43. A few days ago I had terrible insomnia and cried and felt very strong emotions and realized I’m an unfulfilled artist inside. I told my husband in the morning: “I’m going to become an artist. A terrible one and no one will care about my art but I must. I’m an artist inside” he replied: “I support you. Go and make beautiful things” I have no idea how this will be or what kind of artist I will become. But I must create and experiment. I will do other types of work for survival and only the bare minimum. I have kids to care for. But I must find a way to create art. This inspirational video made me believe maybe it’s not too late.

I started doing digital photo editing as a hobby at 30 yo and progressed to painting about a year later. That was 8 years ago... i have 0 naturel talent and its taken me this long to finally get at least decent at painting... Id like to be able to paint super realistic landscapes .. but the chances of that are slim to none.
@driesketels
@driesketels 8 месяцев назад
Slim to none??? Where did you get that idea from? There are a lot of people who would say that the chances of your physique at the age of 38 are also slim to none so...
@SeanMahoneyfitnessandart
@SeanMahoneyfitnessandart 8 месяцев назад
@@driesketels thank you.. appreciate that! Honestly tho... I look like this now because I started weight training when I was 9... I put in all the hard work in my teens and 20s .... maintenance is easy... despite what the absolutely criminal "fitness" industry would have you believe. Tho I had a client who, at 77 was so weak he couldn't even lift a gallon of milk. He had never touched a weight in his life. And he did NOT want to be at the gym... his son basically forced him into it. When he turned 80, he could bench press 100lbs for 5 sets of 5, deadlift 100lbs for 5 sets of 5, squat with 85lb on his back ass to the grass for 15 reps... and he had a visible 6 pack. My oldest client was 84.. when we started she needed a walker and couldn't go from sitting to standing on her own. Less than 1 year later she could do 15 squats holding a 15lb kettle bell under her chin and in our last session did 14 perfect push ups. She lost 18lbs of belly fat.... and told me she had a date lined up for that night. It's truely never too late for fitness!!! I guess if I really want to get good at painting I need to put in the same effort I did to training and learning everything I possibly could about natural health and determining once and for all, what Truely is the optimal human diet... that alone took about 5 years of careful trials and experiments.. but was worth it. Spoiler... its Paleo... meat and veggies with some root tubers sprinkled in here and there. But art... its so much harder.. You haven't seen what my first few attempts at painting looked like 🤣🤣 ... RU-vid tutorials have taught me pretty much everything I know... some real technical/techniques classes would probably help. I'd like to know more about your lightning art tho.. like what's the process??
@driesketels
@driesketels 8 месяцев назад
It's unbelievable how much the body can adapt at any age. That's really one of the most powerful lessons I drew from my own fitness journey. Never underestimate what you're capable of. About the lightning art... I've been wanting to make videos about that but at the moment the high speed camera's that would be necessary to document that process are too expensive... Last time I checked this was a 100k price tag so give me some time and you'll see me paint with lightning with explanation for sure
