I’m a physician; this is an excellent interview. Metabolic treatment is a very encouraging development that exemplifies the body’s healing capacities. Congratulations to Andrew for making such a tremendous contribution to the treatment of a very difficult disease. His story is amazing. Also, thank you to Dr.Chaffee for spreading this information through his platform. We need more people who observe outliers and question the status quo. The axiom “ there is always a better way” should never be forgotten in medicine.

My husband died in 2020 after two years fighting GBM cancer. His first seizure was 2018 when they found his tumor and performed surgery to remove. He put 100% faith into his doctors and started chemotherapy and radiation immediately. His oncologist said there was no other therapy when I would push for alternatives. It just breaks my heart that he went so fast 💔

My mum died from GBM 78 days from diagnosis. She was willing to eat Keto but after the biopsy she deteriorated immediately. I feel we got tricked into doing it as they had told us that her tumour was inoperable but then told us there was a small chance that it was just an infection so insisted on the biopsy. Different doctors were telling us different things although they what I do know is that it took time away from us as she didn’t even get a chance to eat keto for long as she couldn’t swallow properly. We went to Peter Mac in Melbourne and they were serving all sugary foods to the patients with no real options for sugar free. I was appalled and let them know this. I wish I knew about Carnivore diet 10 years ago.

Great interview! I was diagnosed in 2003 with an Astrocytoma grade three. The protocol was resection, radiation and chemotherapy with Temodar (14 months). For seizures I was prescribed phenytoin. I only had the one seizure and after about two years I removed the phenytoin. I had an EEG to prove I was seizure free. I wish my doctors would have told me then about the keto diet. Decahedron was the most horrible drug. I know that I needed it to keep my brain from swelling, but it had the worst side affects. Looking back (I am now 61) I would have opted out of the radiation. I have been keto for about three years after reading Dr. Annette Boswell’s first book, “Any way I can” and even though meat is not my thing, I am working towards a carnivore diet. I wish more doctors would consider diet before pills.

My oncologists have used the word remission to describe the disappearance of the resected 5% remainder of my 2.5 cm methylated GBM; 10x immuno T cell/dendritic cell "vaccine". MRI's are every 6 months, but MS-symptoms post gadolinium have led me to a place where I cannot take gadolinium anymore. Symptoms are slowly fading but many remain. Back in the mid-90's, friends learned that their oldest son, then about two or three years old, had a severe seizure disorder. He was put on medication. I asked if they knew about keto diet for seizures; they asked their doctor, who told them that a keto diet would do more harm than good. I was teaching in the Christian school attached to our church, and had this little boy in my classroom beginning when he was four. I watched this formerly bright, active little boy become dull-eyed, dragging around, and mentally challenged. He continued to have petit-mal seizures pretty much constantly. It broke my heart, because even with the little information I had on keto at the time, I was pretty sure that would have been a better alternative than the medications he'd been put on. How can this have been known about for so long, and still be so little accepted and used?

The keto diet successfully treats a lot of things, not just seizure disorders. This information is being deliberately withheld from diabetics, cancer victims, people with autoimmune conditions, people with PCOS, people with mood disorders, etc., etc., etc., PLUS epileptics. The amount of suffering that has occured because of this fraudulent withholding of vital information is enormous, and it's still going on. Thank God for RU-vid (despite it's shortcomings) because now, finally, we're able to hear people's stories from all over the world and put the whole picture together.

Hello, I had an Astrocytoma Grade III in 2003. I had a resection, radiation and Chemotherapy (Temodar) for 14 months. For seizures I was prescribed Phenytoin. After transferring to Duke in North CarolinaI was put on a cocktail consisting of high doses of Celebrex and tamoxifen. I had just completed my core work and was working on my Dissertation. I had been accepted to a year long residency at the VA which I had to postpone for a year. When I moved out of state for this residency my parents helped me get an apartment which was on the second floor. I kept falling down the stairs due to my vision being impaired so discontinues all of my meds including the phenytoin. Well not all of my meds, I continued the Provigil to keep me awake. The decahedron had the worst effects. I craved food and would eat anything but mostly sweets. I wish one of my doctors would have talked to me about nutrition. The first time I found out about Ketosis was in a bookstore offering recipes for keto. Then I read Dr. Bozworths’s book, “Any way you can” and found out Ketosis and nutrition.

WOW thank you for this one! Now I'm worried about my son who is 4 years old. (more below) When he mentioned that dexamethasone raises blood sugar and long term use can cause dype 2 diabetes. 51:00 ish. I looked it up and it's right there! One of my children developed asthma within 6 weeks of being born. And suffered his first major asthma attack at 4 months old. Received two doses of liquid oral dexamethasone at that time. And then twice per year since. Every march and august. Corresponding to dust storms/wind and tree pollen in Winnipeg, Canada. He is now 4 years old and has received this intervention 8 times already. (so two doses 36 hours apart orally 8x which is 16 doses. Starting at 4 months old) Not to mention the steroid inhalers he uses. I asked his asthma/allergy specialist if I should do a dietary change last year. I mentioned eating anti-inflammatory foods. Seeing as asthma is in part inflammation. He said no." There's no reason to do that or to think that it would help." So I continued on the regular crappy North American diet. (I'm in Canada. So I cannot simply change practitioner, I cannot ask for extra tests or things the government doesn't consider necessary which is usually the minimum) I have been doing Carnivore for 4 days now. I feel so stupid for asking that doctor for his opinion. I wish I had simply done it on my own, changed our diet, and watched for changes if any. Now I'm slowly reducing availability in our home to plants/sugars and hoping to have my children fully carnivore within the next month or so. (I have 4 children, 2, 4, 7, 9) Thank you for having interviews with scientific data, or researchers, people with real life examples of healing. This is so encouraging. Going onto a strict keto diet as well as depriving the tumour of nutrition will enhance the effects of the radiation and chemo and potentially reduce the side effects. Check out videos by Dr. Thomas Seyfried.

Very interesting inspirational thank you, do you eat vegetables and are you still taking Epilim. A Naturopath in Brisbane, Sheridan Genrich who l went to for support to start a keto diet told me we are all different and has had me on a low carb diet for 3 months. I have been taking 60g of protein a day with lots of vegetables, vitamins and herbs she has prescribed which has lots of stevia and natural sweetners in, especially the magnesium, B12 & vanilla protein powder which I have been taking daily which has not helped. I have been having seizures for 18yrs after damage to the left temporal lobe by my x partner. I stopped meds 10yrs ago because of side effects plus they were not stopping the 0 - 5 mnthly seisures ( 20 - 25yr) the same time my hormones changed ( l am 60). The seizures have gone from absence seizures to drop seizures, which l know are dangerous but so are the drugs. Dr Chaffee was very helpful and answered my email & advised trying the carnivore diet which I hope to start over the next few days. I have been wondering about going Keto or Carnivore, no doctor has ever mentioned diet they are presently waiting to try me on Keppra, AGAIN. I had bowel cancer in 2012 and all is good there. My computer has just stopped so im watching via my mobile at present & will have a look at your site soon. I have joined a few Traumatic Brain lnjury sites for information but have not found a lot, except cannabis which I may try again if this doesn't work.

He eats a fairly strict carnivore diet with no veggies I believe. I have seen carnivore work better than keto for seizures in a few patients already, but that's not to say it will fix everybody. But, it will help in a lot of other ways as well, so well with the shot. Good luck with it!

@@anthonychaffeemd Finally got my computer going again we cant do a lot without it anymore. It is still very confusing regarding the Keto/ Carnivore diet for my seizures, I just listened to Dr Gundry's most recent talk and he is saying animal protein Neu5Gc that is in beef, lamb and pork has an association not causation with bowel and breast cancer as it can hide or cloak itself. This was what I had read in 2012 regarding meat and bowel cancer which took me back to eating only vegetables and fish as I had stage 3C bowel cancer in 2012 which a Naturopath did not not pick up on over an 8 month period for CFS until I was rushed to hospital. You can understand why I am wanting to do my research and I no longer trust most naturopaths or doctors I have spend thousands on over the years and gotten nowhere. Dr Patrick Walsh & Dr Andrew Stevenson are the best specialists surgeons of Digestive Diseases here in Brisbane that saved my life, Dr Stevenson was able to remove only part of the bowel when I was told I may have had to have a complete hysterectomy. I stopped eating all vegetables 17/12/22 and have only had meat, fish and eggs.

@ascarby
@ascarby 3 месяца назад
Correct, I'm glad you mentioned this. Also it wasn't diet alone that possibly led me to do well and I always say my results are purely speculative. I am just one person and there are many variables, which is why I want to do a study on a group of patients with GBM. It's well worth investigating, even though my own case remains interesting, not least with the control of the type of epilepsy I had. I have no control over how people share this information, unfortunately, but it's true that there has been some exaggeration on some of the podcasts I have been on, even after I have corrected them. In future I need to think more about this. Videos on my own channel are more 'real' I find, as I have more control and I feel relaxed enough to provide much needed context. There are a number of things in this interview I would have rephrased or said completely differently. Regarding classification, I think I stated that under the current WHO guidelines it MAY have been recategorised, but on consensus, looking at it visually and not just the molecular characteristics, it may not have. I use the word 'may' purposefully. I'm not an absolutist and I realise I'm not always correct with my assumptions, so I'm careful with my language. People have their own interpretations, but good scientists will appreciate the nuance. I don't have all the answers, but I try my best to ask good questions and test theories. At the moment I'm passionate about using liquid biopsy data to attempt to prevent future recurrence.

What tumor did Andrew really have? Was it anaplastic astrocytoma or grade iv Glioma? Please clarify.
@nedj2529
@nedj2529 5 месяцев назад
My understand is it was molecular GBM - i.e. it had grade 4 chromosomes based on how it would have been graded today. However 10 years ago they didnt grade these tumors based on molecular markings - hence it would have only been graded as a grade 3 astrocytoma.
@ascarby
@ascarby 3 месяца назад
Upon diagnosis it was Anaplastic Astrocytoma - IDH1 wild type, unmethylated MGMT. It is unclear what this would be under the new 2021 guidelines for classification as usually that would be based on consensus, taking many factors into account, including visual appearance and the presence of necrotic tissue.
@nedj2529
@nedj2529 3 месяца назад

@@nedj2529 IDH1 wild type and unmethylated MGMT, as mine was, would likely be re-classified as GBM, correct, however, it's also graded on consensus, keeping in mind a host of factors, so I'm hesitant to say this grouping as a GBM tumour would be definitive.

They oversell it to compensate for the vilification of it over the years. It seems to be better at controlling symptoms than targeting the causes of disease. But it will not undo all the effects of the Standard American Diet, so if you still eat that, that's what you'll crave. Eat meat, you'll crave more meat. I would like to see a controlled study of cannabis + carnivory to see what we actually get. What really gets me, though, is how commercially grown bud much is put in sugary junk food. That's probably undermining any potential health benefits of it. And it's a waste of bud because cannabis is fat-soluble, so it makes more sense to infuse it with butter or some other animal fat.

Just to be clear here, ketogenic and carnivore diets are two very different things. The former has evidence as far as a potential appropriate diet for cancer patients, through multiple mechanisms, particularly lower insulin levels and better insulin sensitivity. The carnivore diet is potentially dangerous because of the damage it does to the intestinal lining, and processed meats are carcinogenic via nitrso compounds. Red meat eaten with leafy greens and marinated removes most of the negative effects. The benefits of a carnivore diet are from what you are NOT eating, not the red meat, for the most part. There is obvious good short-term nutrition in red meat.
