WOOOOAAAH this looks just like kirby avalanche, and by looks i mean a exact copy/paste except for the characters. Which one was first though? I assume this one.
(edit: I was very bitter back then) ... That's because the same music was in Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, in the 2 player mode. Because that was the American version of Puyo Puyo. So they remixed it for Mania's Puyo battle. This isn't exactly shocking news.
You know this, we know this, everyone knows this. I hate that every time I go to a Puyo Puyo video all the comments are "muh mean bean machine". Sometimes Kirby's Avalanche is mentioned too but my god it gets annyoing. I want to talk about Puyo Puyo! Not a Western knock-off.
Sorry for being late but puyo released first then dr robotniks mean bean machine compile and sega been team before then sega has kicked compile away and owned puyo puyo
@@Monster-od4gi Compile did not go under till at least 6 or 7 years after this game was released in arcades. When this was released, Compile was doing fine.
*thick European ascent* You play the puyo and only the puyo you go every competition and you win them for your mother. I do not care that you no speak Japanese you attend anyways you make papa proud.
At that time Compile owned the Puyo Puyo IP (Sega would later get it, and IMO they have not done a great job with the franchise by removing Arle as the games main protagonist, and replacing her with some blonde girl with a wool cap on, Arle is Puyo Puyo, not this newer girl. Bacially Arle returned, but never to her proper spot). They figured western gamers wouldn't identify with the Japanese characters, and sales would be poor, so they let Sega and Nintendo replace the original characters with characters western gamers would be familiar with, nothing more.
@@jestfullgremblim8002 Sega seems too afraid to return Arle to her proper role, main protagonist of the series. She should not be playing second, or third fiddle to anyone in these games.
Not really, this has far more humor if you know what's going on. Reskins just seem to lose the charm the original had. Otherwise, the games play the exact same.
Not one bit, but I knew the basic premise of why Arle is trying to win. I have seen translations of the second and third game. I personally hate reskins of existing titles, don't need to know the language to understand the humor, especially if you read up on the story, and the games this series spun off of. I also happen to collect Puyo Puyo games from the first game, to the 4th game.
Actually, Puyo Puyo was released on the msx2 in 1991 as a spinoff title to a rpg trilogy starring the characters seen in gameplay. Mean Bean Machine was released in 1993 as an American/European port for the genesis because the creators (Compile) wouldn't think the anime like characters would sell in the USA. Let's also not forget about Kirby's Avalanche/Ghost Trap for the SNES. I think that one was released in 1995.
Not at all, once I learned the truth about how MBM and Kirby's Avalanche were just reskins, I never touched them again. I went out of my way to get the Puyo Puyo games on Mega Drive and Super Famicom because the reskins disgusted me so much (Tetris Attack is another such monstrosity). You also fail to realize, other than new sprites, the games are the EXACT same. This is the original, and the better game over the reskins, get over it. I love my puzzle games, but I prefer them to be unaltered (I'm looking at you too Magical Drop 2 and 3 Western versions with removed original voice audio, replaced with generic crappy voices).
Tyler Williams Yeah. I mean I like Kirby's Avalanche because I like the pink guy and his cast of characters, as well as Puyo Puyo just for the fact that it's the original. It's also seen more ports than Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche. Like on the PC98, the Famicom and FDS, the Gameboy, and even had a Tiger Electronics keychain by the name of Puyolin.
UltraMaster2O1 Studios I like robotnik mean bean machine just cause i played that first and I have a huge bias for nostalgia not gonna lie but that's just me. Edit: Also I know and recognize puyo puyo was the first of the bean stack games, unlike the triggered chick up top...
