As an anthropology student in college I studied genetics so I was able to follow along with you. I think you did a great job of explaining the morph genetics. What I would like to see is a video showing what the different morphs are as I find all the names somewhat confusing. I have no idea what a motley or tiger or many other morphs are supposed to look like.
Gunslinger 11B ya I agree. I know how genetics works but there is NOTHING I know of on RU-vid specifically stating how to identify morphs. For balls there's a bunch out there, but not for retics

Reach Out Reptiles True, but some people you can tell don't actually understand what they are talking about. I think the way you showed and explained is the best way to do so, but that's because I am a visual person.
Haven't had to do a punnet square for awhile. At least not since the morph calculates came out. Awesome video I was able to go for awhile. About the third gene in my head started hurting a little. By the end it was burning gears.😀 Really liked the use of cards and will probably use that when I do school talks. Have a good one.

I'm glad it helped! Understanding them is confusing for sure, but translating that knowledge in a way that anyone can understand is even harder! I'm getting better, but have much more learning to do...
This was about as simple as I could break it down. Mendelian genetics are what we are going over here. Once you have a grasp of how those work (9th grade biology is usually when they teach this), then all you need to do is learn the mode of inheritance of the morphs you like (i.e. are they recessive, dominant, Incomplete dominant, etc).

The theory applies to 99.9% of mutations- the important part to understand what offspring will look like vs. what they will carry genetically is to understand the "mode of inheritance." Genetic stripe is recessive, meaning heterozygous animals (Aa) will not look Genetic Stripe, only homozygous (aa).

I am new to retics and new to morphs... What would be the breeding outcome of 75% sd lemonglow male x 75% normal female het albino. 75%sd, but one is homozygous the other incomplete homozygous? I think! So what would the expression be? Normal, mix of both types and/or blending? Great if you could help! Thanks
Probably was. I haven't worked there in 5 years, and live on the other side of the country now- but I certainly learned quite a bit over there. Even back then, I was always pushing to make more Dwarf and SD stuff. Jay likes his big snakes (Nothing wrong with that!)
