I just started watching Dr. Barnett, and really enjoyed this teaching. I need to tell my experience with speaking in tongues. I was a new Christian and didn’t know about speaking in tongues, it was during a revival with a lot of youth there. I asked for prayer for strength in Christ. While I was being prayed over, I started speaking in tongues and I felt like I was separated from my body and a girl in the group was telling them what I was saying. I never heard of this until I was told what happen to me. Also about a year after this happening to me I was 13 years old and I had a lot of issues with my eyes since I was in first grade. My parents have just bought me new glasses because my eyes had gotten worse. As a kid I play in the ditch behind our house and I have put my glasses in my shirt pocket. They fell out at sometime while playing and I couldn’t find them. My parents was upset with me because they didn’t have the money to pay for another pair of glasses. I started praying for the Lord to heal my eyes. I could tell the Lord had answered my prayers. I could see so much better. I told my parents that the Lord healed my eyes. That I didn’t need glasses anymore. Mom and dad didn’t believe me so they had made appointment around three months later. Mom told the eye doctor that I was claiming the Lord healed my eyes and laughed. He said we better check. With surprise he told my mom, he’s right he doesn’t need glasses anymore. The doctor and my mom couldn’t get over my lazy eye, astigmatism, and farsighted was all corrected. Praise the Lord!
In 2013, my life was spiraling into hell. I was addicted to drugs and alcohol. I kept trying to pursue God but would fall back into drugs and alcohol. One day while flying to Miami to party, I prayed to God for a miracle because I started doubting his existence. Three days later, my pastor was giving a sermon on tongues. I never heard of tongues before. I ended up looking it up on RU-vid and found a lady who talked about tongues. She did a prayer at the end of her video and I did too. Thar moment I felt warmth and my whole body was filled. I started praying in tongues. From that day on, I haven't drank or done drugs. It's 2022. I'm sober and living for Jesus so I don't agree with the cessation viewpoint.

Tongues is mentioned in the OT too. Isa 28: 9-13 is VERY EXPLICIT about the IMPORTANCE of tongues. I believe tongues is the SECRET PLACE mentioned in Matt 6:6 and 10. It is secret coded prayer language that God gives us that Satan can't break. When Daniel prayed, he started a WAR IN HEAVEN because Satan eavesdropped and attempted to stop the answer.
thats such a beautiful testimony of the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. I too was healed from drinking and was completley healed after praying and the Holy Spirit spoke through me in tongues. no one can tell me its bad or doesnt exist. its sad because the enemy peverts things of God so what ppl see can be the enemy trying to replicate it. discernment is key.

Ive been speaking in tongues and praying in the spirit for 67 years and have seen all kinds of answered prayer from it. And have seen many beautiful messages given in tongues with an interpitation that would not have been anything but Gods message to us at church. the other lady saying she would be scared who she was talking to. The answers to prayer and interpitations dont sound like anything but Bible based answers to me. Cant see a denomic spirit telling you about the good things Gods going to do for you that are Bible based doctrine.

So how many languages have you learned and are fluent in besides English? I think it would be cool to learn Spanish and then preach the gospel in Mexico. Because that’s what speaking in tongues is.
Too late for me as well. I also was baptized in the spirit and speak in tongues. Praying in tongues has been a blessing in my life. I was saved from a gang rape at 16 by speaking in tongues and no one will every convince me that God doesn’t give us this gift.
I'm glad God saved you from that horrible experience, but it wasn't because you were praying in tongues--because you weren't. Personal experience does not establish truth.
I am gratefull that you were saved . . . Please look more into your conviction and your truth because the adversary uses truth as well as lies to trap us. Sometimes we do more damage to His plan with twisted truth and kindness than with just plain lies and violence. . . Please pray for descernment and truth, i will pray also . . . When I was twelve years old and had just received Jesus as my personal savior that night in my bedroom I asked God to bless me with the Holy Spirits prayer language I received it. What a blessing this precious gift has been to me for over fifty years🕊
Speaking in tongues is speaking in known languages in people groups. Praying in the Spirit is similar to walking in the Spirit and is in direct opposition to what we do in the flesh. The Word of God doesn't provide a teaching on an " unintelligible" language that is prayer. If one does decide in their Christian liberty to pray this way it is to be in absolute privacy and not to be heard by others. Tongues in the true biblical meaning requires an interpreter which is one who understands the tongue ( ok language) spoken. The current speaking in tongues in groups and out loud is not spiritual but fleshy and is a sin of disobedience to clear teaching inspired by The Holy Spirit. My son lost his faith altogether after being told that repeatedly. It was cruel, unbiblical in the extreme, an not at all Christian. It is a GIFT not a FRUIT of the Holy Spirit so not everyone will receive it EVEN IF it were given to all of the people who claim it but clearly do not demonstrate any of the other qualities of Christ. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, Love your neighbor as yourself, LOVE JOY patience KINDNESS GENTLENESS goodness faithfulness and SELF CONTROL which Paul taught us to exercise by NOT using tongues in a church filled with people who all speak ENGLISH! TONGUES is for communicating the GOSPEL to people who do not SHARE A LANGUAGE with you and cannot otherwise receive it.
You absolutely can be judged by Jesus on judgement day as being worthy to enter the kingdom of god even if you don’t receive the gift of tongues. However tongues absolutely do boost your communion with God through edification, it’s a gift and as with healing why wouldn’t you want that gift?

I spoke in tongues one night in prayer and found out when my Baptist Minister baptised me in water and bought me up out of the water he asked the Holy Spirit to baptise me in tongues. I am now 77 years old and still speak in tongues. Its a wonderful gift to be given, especially when I don’t know what to pray in English for example missionaries abroad.
That gift of tongues is used when needed through the Holy Spirit. In your spirit & soul you know that He is prompting you to speak and then you take a step of faith. Like when Peter took a step onto the water. It doesn’t happen often, for some people, not at all because we’ve never been in the situation we’re it was needed.

Long story short; I became born again about 2 years ago... then one day I was having a yard sale so my 2 sisters and mom came to my house and it was about 4pm and one of my sisters was having marriage issues and she was telling us all about it while we were all inside the kitchen and my husband was watching the stuff outside, etc...so we sat around the kitchen table and I started telling my sister how valuable she is to God and how much He loves her and then immediately I felt a spirit, Gods spirit enter my body thru my head and I started speaking in tongues and began to prophecy to her...He used me in that moment to speak truth and life to my sister. That never happened before to me so I didn’t really know what to make of it just that God does speak and we just have to be willing and available.

I respect Dr. Johns teaching and have learned so much from him. With that being said, It is import not to put the Holy Spirit in boxes where the spirit of the Lord doesn't have the freedom to move in our hearts. We know Gods voice and we follow him, just as the word says. What is important is that the Holy Spirit speaks in ways he chooses and faith is built from his voice in our hearts. There is to many miracles being done today, through the power of God, and obedient believers to deny Holy Spirit movement in Gods power!

Repented of my sins was Baptized With water and of the spirit in the unmatchable name of Jesus for the remission of my sins. Glory to God. I was born again and baptised in The Holy Spirit before i even set foot in a church building, when that happened, I opened my mouth to speak and I spoke in tongues, I did not even know what it was and tried to stifle it at first , I was suffering from grief and thought I had gone crazy with grief, but then I knew i had received the comforter in answer to my prayer for comfort. Speaking in a prayer language has been a part of my prayer life for over 40 years.
I pray to God that He gives revelation to many people who believe that speaking in tongues is not for today's believers. I can tell you all yes it is still for today. This is my testimony about it. When I got born again a few years ago, I didn't have a clue what the Holy Spirit was, nor was I aware of any gifts of the Holy Spirit etc. I didn't grow up in church, so I didn't know what Christianity was all about. I didn't get born-again at church either, I was just at home watching TV and God decided it was time for me to know Him, by His grace. He instantly opened up my understanding about Jesus when I watched a Christian channel one day, something I never did before, but that day something made me watch the channel. Anyway, after I gave my life to Christ, I continued to watch the Christian channels on TV and read the Bible, and watched some RU-vid videos. I then got to learn about speaking in tongues. I watched RU-vid videos about the topic and realised that believers were divided about speaking in tongues. So I got confused, being a new born Christian. I prayed to God for help, because I thought I didn't want to miss out on anything God has given to His church. So one day I decided I would just go along with one teacher and learn how to allow the Holy Spirit to speak through me. I started speaking in tongues, but in my human mind I thought it was silly, it sounded stupid to say the least. Anyway I decided to continue with it. One morning when I just woke up, and prayed in tongues, I just thought to myself "oh this is nonsense, I don't want to do it anymore", so I stopped praying in tongues and turned over my side to go back to sleep. As soon as I had turned over, BOOM, my spiritual eyes were opened and I was staring at someone else's eyes, who was looking back at me. This was a vision, not a dream. I didn't recognise Him, but I could tell it was a man. It was just eyes, no face, surrounded by a beautiful glorious red colour. I asked Him who He was, we communicated through our eyes, or telepathically. He responded and said that He was Jesus Christ. Then I saw love through His eyes, sorry I don't know how to explain this, but yes, I saw love. Very intense love, On this vision Jesus taught me at least 4 things including the fact that speaking in tongues is biblical, it is for today as well, and God hears us when we speak in tongues. It is not nonsense. So believers please speak/pray in tongues, the devil will attack you to make you fearful to try and stop you, but be courageous and keep praying, he will soon flee. Praying in tongues opens many doors that the devil had shut. That's why he doesn't like it when we pray in tongues. Sorry for the long testimony, I hope it has encouraged many of you. If we are for God! Then who can be against us. I first started praying in tongues when I slept. My husband would say in the morning ...what language is this that you have to wake me up during the night and speak in different languages. I had no idea I was doing this. I started speaking in Tongues in my awake hours and the rest is history. The harvest is great but the labourers are few. God bless you all❤️
Exactly the same here but I have not experienced tongues since. I too attempted to stifle what was happening. Perhaps it was to be a one-off experience for me (like you I was born again and baptised in the Holy Spirit apart from any church building) or perhaps God will revisit in the way He did that day for the purpose of prayer life and preaching to the lost as I did in the beginning. I do know that I was as equipped that day 20 years ago for every good work in Christ as I have ever been and sometimes wonder if I need a similar 'recharge'. We are, after all, exhorted to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit.
I can testify that speaking in tongues happened to me when I was a young Christian when I really began getting into scripture. I woke up speaking in tongues and when that occurred I felt very empowered to share my testimony, stand up for God and defy those in my circle that wanted to shut down my new found faith. I am so thankful for God's power in my life. I am glad that it happened to me the way it did. I know that it was not something I was doing on my own. I really wasn't even really aware that it was a thing God still did. But he does. Please do not put God in a box as you will limit your blessing by your own lack of faith. May God richly bless you.
Which tongue or tongues did you happen to start speaking in? I believe the gifts of the Spirit may not have ceased just yet. I believe it is possible for the Spirit to be manifested in such a way, but it is always important that there is an interpreter present in order to share the knowledge being received to the others in a linguistic code, a known language or tongue that is, one which the persons present at that moment are familiar with. Indeed, either God does it and all glory be to Him and Him only, or He doesn't.

Praying in the spirit is another descriptive term for speaking in tongues. I was saved as a teenager. I would hide in the basement and sing to the Lord every praise song I could think of. One day, as I was crossing the basement to get to the stairs, the holy spirit came on me and I started praising God in an unknown language. I pray in that way often, though always in private. It is one of several spiritual gifts that should not be ignored.
I’ve spoken in tongues and a lady from Kenya was quite encouraged. She said I was speaking in her native tongue and she understood every word I was saying. She was ecstatic because it was an answer to her prayer.
Same here. Before God baptized me in His Spirit and I spoke in tongues (fluent language btw) I prayed Matthew 7:11 out to God and thanked Him for the gift of His spirit. I received this alone in my apartment. Just God and myself.
Edward Hill That is great. I’ve had many experiences with the Lord. My praying in the Spirit is me praying, my spirit praying, nothing is speaking for me. We know Jesus does guide and communicate with His children though, so that is great. I don’t want to base things on experiences alone since even people in the New Age (false) religion have also claim to have similar experiences and visitations from Jesus through meditation. Where he fills them with love, or touches them and does other things. Like I’ve said (because I believe I’ve already spoken with you before at great length) I look at the Word of God alone. I personally believe in the entire Bible, not just certain books. Since you do not and we have already had a very long dialogue already I think we should move on, agreed? I’d love to be able to talk to others now if you don’t mind, and maybe you can do the same? There are so many other believers I’m sure you can fellowship with and speak to on here. Maybe you could make a video and share your experiences even. The same it came up from my belly and I spoke, some abbababb something. Romans 8:15, Gal 4:6 We cry abba father, seal with the Holy Spirit by faith in the blood of Jesus and the risen life. It was after Receiving his Righteousness by faith, Surrender my life by faith, Baptized on faith, Ask for the Holy Spirit by faith, and received. Now a Son. Yes, I can speak in a tongue and I know what I am saying by spirit.

Speaking in tongues is wonderful! I will never forget back 7 years ago when Jesus blessed me with the gift. It happened when I was driving to Omaha Nebraska to see my brother. My uncle baptized me in the Holy Spirit just like the Bible says to do. My uncle then said to just praise Jesus till I got to my destination. So I did! About an hour after he hung up; I received! I can tell you it's like having a river flow over you of peace. A joy that's undescribable. When the Bible says your cup overflows, it's exactly what happens. Anyone who reads this and you want to seek a gift from the Lord only he can give; just ask Jesus. He is very rich and wants to bless His kids!
@James Brice I actually spoke 4 or 5 different languages. One sounded like Russian, one Asian, one Aramaic, and one was something I never heard before. I'd just say heavenly. There may have been one more as well. When I started speaking what the Holy Spirit filled me with, I spoke it for a while. After speaking it; I asked The Lord if He would change the language and He did! It was something so awesome!

Dr.Barnett your teaching have been a Godsend to me, I have learned so much from them. That said I believe you are wrong about speaking in tongues. I had a Aunt who was the strongest Christian I ever have known and she spoke in tongues while praying all the time. Anyone she ever met her first question to them would be “ do you know Jesus “ and if you didn’t you had better sit down for the next hour while she told you who he is. It was a gift to a person who served God with all their heart. I miss that woman !
@Fj Rules Any tongue that is spoken around others should be accompanied by someone who has been gifted with the ability to interpret it. Otherwise it should be kept for private use only. Part of the fruit of the Spirit is self-control and it is rarely practiced within the church. Gifts can be misused and the traditions of man has taught the incorrect use of this gift. To add, if any of us act upon something we have freedom to do in Christ but it causes a brother or sister to stumble in their walk, we should refrain from it. Jesus told us, "If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea." (Mark 9:42). These verses reference the governing of the use of our gifts. Just because some see successful incorrect use of this gift in their lives doesn't mean anything more than God that merciful and full of grace. And ultimately, nothing happens on our own doing but by the will of God. Please consider this as you walk with the Lord.
I dont mean to seem abrasive with this comment. Here goes: watch the video over again. Have a Bible handy. He clearly explains the verses and how it was for a dispensation. It makes sense if you read along the Bible and listen closely. You need to test the spirits as you don't know what is causing a person to do so. Please. Read your Bible.
Speaking in tongues during my quiet time daily is one of my most awesome times.I love speaking in tongues building myself up as instructed in scripture.
@@sl4983 I pray daily not always the same time but it's better to have a set tym so I pray about something in English switch to tongues switch to English and so it's praying in both languages during prayer tym and always with a box of tissues....lol....it makes a huge difference most tyms after praying for directions I know what to do and I believe I get this direction from praying in tongues and its always always very accurate
@@sl4983 i don't always read the bible first but after praying I feel very directed to what scriptures I should read and meditate upon for the direction God's is taking me....God does not want me to be ritualistic so it's not always the same...nor to feel condemned if some days I pray for an hour and the next day just 10 minutes or somedays just go on a prayer walk that is taking a long walk and having conversation with God discussing things

Dear One,He does want to to be filled with Holy Ghost and if you ask and receive,it will happen!! But You speak the words forming on your lips!! HE doesn't just take you over,You have a role to play.After you receive His promise,then You will speak. One of course must be born again then After this, one can receive or ask the Father to fill them with Holy Ghost,then cooperate with Holy Ghost,and speak what comes on your lips or thoughts to your mind. This Minister is very gentle and loving,but he is wrong. I commend him for not being hateful!!!
The vast majority of God's people through the years have not spoken in tongues, even though they had the Holy Spirit, so it's a false and very harmful thing to say that you have to be able to speak in tongues to be a proper child of God. It's very sad, and opens people up to demonic deception! ;(
Amen. I took it by volition in faith and 10+ minutes a day for years and years. No one will change what God does in my private prayer tongue. I can't mess it up. Accept it like your Salvation or anything else taken in faith with the Bible.

I experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit in a non-charismatic church before believing in Christ; and 3 days after accepting Christ, while alone & without any instruction or knowledge of any of it, the Holy Spirit filled & moved in me with the gift of tongues as well as spontaneously laying hand on a non-charismatic friend (who was feeling ill & their symptoms stopped) Gifts of the Spirit are alive & well & available for those who trust & follow Christ. Sadly many Christian’s believe that this beautiful gift is no longer for this age. Peter said that when the Holy Spirit fell on those on Pentecost, he stated that this is what the prophet Joel proclaimed and not fulfilled for those in the last days. When Christians witness the abuse or ridicule of this gift on TV with these so called evangelicals acting like out of control believers it is no wonder they discard this empowerment of prayer. I pray in tongues as much as I can especially when the Holy Spirit interceded for me in my prayer language. The church is so week because of suppressing the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that it doesn’t promote repentance and acknowledgement of the power we need from the Holy Spirit!!

Peter also came right out and explained to the crowd which understood the 17 languages the Apostles were speaking. I know the Lord has no shortage of power or gifts today, and I often get words of knowledge and discernment. But what the church today considers, "praying in tongues" is not at all what I would consider a practice that any of these apostles we're doing. The drive for the gospel was the first thing that they woke up every morning thinking about. And the love for people was overwhelming them enough to where they all were martyred for their faith. As Luke mentions, they received the power to preach the gospel, remember to every tribe tongue and Nation. If you can't speak the nation's tongue, how does the gospel get spread? This is why Paul said, and where I believe a lot of misinterpretation seems to be happening here, "I pray in tongues more than they all, because as he says just shortly after "he labors more than they all". He was writing to the church at Corinth where this is a port city. Much of his time spent traveling in fact was two places where people came from other places, and of course this was not a light task as this was only great perseverance, two great hardship and great suffering they labored for the Gospel. I know they'll be other verses that I can respond to that I know is taught regarding this matter . Some Churches have courses and even weeks and months of studying and its really unnecessary when it shouldn't be that hard to understand. Perhaps I can put some more time into responding back on the main thread for others to read, but I do consider praying in tongues the gift that would be necessary to preach the gospel. That was the reason for the gift. Also the church can be edified when non-believers hear the Holy Spirit interpret another language and become born again. Not only does that build the church with a new believer, it edifies the body to see God's work in action, and the promises Jesus said for the whole reason of getting the Holy Spirit. But you are born again with the Holy Spirit once you believe you have received. Baptism of the holy spirit is not mentioned anywhere in Scripture, but I know the scriptures that are taught they are a few and they are easily interpreted two different ways. I will respond and they larger text thread after listening to more of this but I have enjoyed responding back and I hope you at least consider what might not be what you were taught it was. My father was an ordained penticostal pastor when I was a baby. He eventually quit pastoring. He insisted that tongues were necessary. When I ever heard tongue in church it scared me. When I was an adult and started searching the LORD for myself, I began to desire or take interest in tongue, or a prayer language. One day I was driving to work and singing worship songs with all my heart and I began praising God over and over and as if I had a "spiritual orgasm" so to speak, I began an utterance that lead to strong prayer language. It made me cry and praise God more over and over. It was powerful, not scary at all. I still have a prayer language. I don;t hve it every time I pray, however, it ALWAYS leads to me to such powerful praise that goes beyond thought to release of God's spirit.
Amen. I get "private spiritual ecstacy tongue (spiritual orgasm with God is nice way to put it) 10+minutues each day. It's perfect private prayer and builds our faith. We can't mess it up. I brag it up as Apostle Paul did too. There's 2 different kinds of tongues! Amen.
I was depressed even after I was a Christian And a friend of mine said are you OK and I said I don't know don't know any said I think I know what you need do you need you need the baptism of the holy ghost. And so I went to a home group meeting and I got the gift of the holy ghost with tongues And a whole lot of boldness And the depression was completely gone And I started leading all kinds of people to Jesus.

I knew nothing about speaking in tongues until i did it, I was praising the Lord and listening to music praising our Lord it was in the evening, I went to bed later that evening. After falling asleep I was taken up in the holy spirit, and My head was held back I was speaking to the Lord in a language i did not understand. i did not know what i was saying but the Lord did. for we were having a conversation and when i was waking up from my dream I was still speaking in a language i did not understand. I assure you that one day Jesus will tell me what we talked about!
When the Holy Spirit filled me 12 days after repenting under the ministry of that same Holy Spirit and 8 days after confessing with my tongue and believing in my heart that Jesus was the Son of God, that Jesus was LORD and that God had raised Him from the dead - by revelation from that same Holy Spirit - I spoke just once in a language that was not my own and sounded like nothing I had heard on Earth, though I have heard something vaguely close when amongst people praying. I had my arms up praising God and my eyes closed; my entire being lifted up in praise to Jesus Christ. There was nobody else present and therefore nobody else was edified - but I most certainly was. I was strengthened and emboldened to go immediately to all men and preach Jesus Christ to them. This was handy timing because I was living in a hostel for four years with over 150 men, knew many addicts and they knew me, and had just been delivered in an instant from heroin and methadone addiction without any withdrawals whatsoever. God also delivered me from all the psychiatric medication I was a slave to (sleepers, antidepressants, tranquilizers) and so I was able to preach to the psychiatrists and social workers as well. I do not know what part (besides edification of self) speaking in a strange tongue played in that experience of going from death to life but to DENY it happened because I do not understand the phenomena would be to lie. One can do all kinds of gymnastics with the Scripture - especially when trying to understand apart from God - and in the process do all kinds of damage to the Body, especially baby Christians. The Scripture is absolutely clear that nobody should outright forbid the speaking in tongues within the confines of orderly worship, whether alone or in the presence of somebody who can interpret. Indeed, tongues and interpretation of tongues both belong to God and who will DENY Him?

Too many are waiting for God to move their tongue. Just take it and run with it is my understanding. I do private tongue 10+ minutes per day for years and years. I speak in tongues. So do my mom and sister. It’s a gift from the Lord. I’ve asked the Lord that if my speaking in tongues isn’t from Him, then take it away. I still speak in tongues. He leads me on when to use this gift.
@@martha6392 that is the right question to have indeed. For every gift that was given was not for oneself, but rather for others. For the edification of the body of Christ, all the more reason why Paul said he wished all would prophecy and greater is he that prophesied than he that spoke in tongues because there's more edification for the body of Christ if someone prophesies. So there was indeed a purpose behind speaking in tongues, and for what we are seeing today, there is a huge misunderstanding of what it's for and what it looks like. In the beginning when the apostles went their ways to spread the gospel, it was needed that they be able to speak in tongues which ensured the spread of the gospel. Even Paul said he spoke in tongues more than anyone, and rightfully so, because he went unto the Gentiles who had all kinds of different tongues (languages). So it was right by God to bestow the speaking of tongues on Paul more so for that reason of his ministry.

You are absolutely spot on. There are many great teachers of the holy Bible out there but I have noticed many have their own interpretations which are not inspired by the Holy Spirit.

It is indeed a narrow & straight path. Eschatology on the other hand is an imperfect science so to speak & we many never come to an exact agreement on that. I grew up in a Baptist church where the gifts of the spirit wasn't talked about but at 16 years old,I started going to a pentecostal church where I heard about the gifts of the spirit for the first time in my life.I'll say this,even though I was at this pentecostal church where people spoke in tongues,I was never taught that I had to speak in tongues in order to be saved the whole time I attended this church.

Jesus said John truly baptized with water but you shall be baptized in spirit. The whole book of acts is meant to show us a transition from jews to gentiles and from signs (gifts, wonders, miracles) to faith. A lot of people don't understand that and only hang out in the early chapters of acts to justify learned behavior from heretical denominations of the church. We have to understand that the devil can mimic gifts and miracles. That he also can come to us as an angel of light. So when people speak of receiving the spirit they need to do what the bible says and test the spirits. They're not all good even if some can make us feel good.

I don't speak in tongues but I believe they are a gift of the Holy Spirit. I've learned that just because something is not happening in your life doesn't mean it's not happening at all.
Agree. I have some friends who have speaking in tongues. However, I happened just for a while. That usually happened to people who need God's encouragement for a specific moment. It is only a gift of God . Usually we need to test the Spirit. Also it need interpretation. Since it is a gift we should not pursue it intentionally.

I spoke in tongues after I was baptized and walking home from church and the glory of the Lord came down from heaven and was all around me and I was so excited seeing the glory shining down on me I turned to my cousin who just got baptized with me and I started asking if he saw the light and all of a sudden I was speaking in tongues and I was shocked and put my hand over my mouth cause our church didn’t believe in tongues so I didn’t even know what it was then .

Listen to your heart, we KNOW in who we believe. If it were of the devil it would have the fruit of him. Chaos, evil thoughts, hate. Instead we have the joy of the Lord, love , peace, I have even worshipped in the Spirit in song. I believe there is a difference In praying in tongues and praying in the Spirit. Have you wept in the Spirit? Sometimes I feel emotional so I will give into the Spirit and pray for about 10 minutes or so then it is lifted from me. Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for WE know not what WE should pray for as WE ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (weeping.) (Who is groaning, we are.) 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." We are the vessel. I was at a church conference and there was a young mother who had a infant injured during the birth. No hope. I was led to pray in the Spirit there where I sat. This was the first time I wept in the Spirit. It is not us who are praying it is the Spirit coming through us not through our mind of understanding but purely from the Spirit. I feel it is Jesus in us who is carrying that burden of whom ever the Spirit leads us to pray for. Allow the Spirit to prompt you to pray. You'll know. God Bless you and keep you. Speaking in the holy ghost is real!! When I received the holy spirit God blessed me with the romantic language of prayer that only he understands. In the Bible it speaks about how the holy spirit ( through tongues) prays on our behalf. Out of our belly shall flow living water!
There is a distinction between speaking in tongues as your prayer language received at the Baptism in the Holy Spirit which is for your personal edification as opposed to the Gift of Tongues listed among the 9 Gifts of the Spirit which is manifested for the building up of the body of Christ. Another important distinction is that The Gift of Tongues MUST be accompanied by the Gift of Interpretation so that the message in tongues is understood and the hearers edified. Whereas tongues as a prayer language is a speaking of secrets unto God and understood by no man. Which brings me to the third distinction. The direction of the Conmunication in the Gift of Tongues which must be accompanied by interpretation is downward, God Communicating with Man. Whereas the direction of the communication of our prayer language is upward, us speaking secrets unto God. Our prayer language is also available for us to utilise 24/7 . Paul said, 'I speak in tongues more than you all' 'Pray with the Spirit and pray with your understanding at all times' Whereas the Gift of Tongues is only available to us as the Spirit gives us utterance ie when God wants to bring a message to His people. These distinctions are important ones to understand I feel since these are two distinct operations of the Holy Spirit and the Confusion comes from believing they are one and the same manifestation. They are great if they are used in context with the rules for their use! Read again what it says about prophecy and tongues in particular and then take a look at how they are used in evangelical and charismatic churches, very big difference between the two. I personally find it interesting that paul devotes the most time to these 2 gifts in particular but thats just me.

@@conpappas1066 sir be careful, God works in many ways, some may believe through gifts like tongues, healing etc by the Spirit of God. Some may be teachers like Dr Barnett by the Spirit of God. My experience is that less learned people tend to be graced with spiritual (more tangible) gifts whilst learned men of God tend to shun this but this does not make them less believers or even saved. Look at the fruit of the tree. Dr Barnetts expounding of the Bible has really helped me to mature as a believer still I do not share his cessasionist view. But in another way do say that not all so called gifts of the dpirit are really of the Spirit of God. The Lord in my opinion is reviving many of His gifts in these last dat but at the same way satan is still coumterfeiting God. Most of not all greedy prosperity gospel churches are full of tongues but still are misleading. The same goes for the Word of faith movement. However there are some evangelical and old fashioned decent pentecostal churches that are more biblical and Christ centered than many reformed style denominations. Be careful to say a person has not the Spirit of God as this means the person may have a demon. If that person DOES have the Spirit which I really and truly believe in Dr Barnetts case you may just have commited blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.

owemylife - It will be interesting to study these passages in the original language. I personally believe that the gifts, as powers that come with being saved, no longer excuse. This belief is based on Scripture and experience with the Uber false Charismatic Movement of the past 100 years. I do believe, however that God can grant any of them at any time.
Been praying in tongues since 1996, roughly 2 hours a week for 27 years so nearly 2,800 hours of speaking in tongue and I absolutely love having this supernatural ability to speak in a heavenly language. I feel very sorry for anyone who preaches against it like this man

I got interested with the title of the video cause I do speak in tongues since I was 20 years old and now its been 26 years after that and I still practice speaking in tongues and I don't think this gift I desired and received comes from the evil one. I received the gift of tongues five months after I received Jesus as my personal Savior and Lord in my own room when I got so tired with everything trying to be good and always tell Jesus that I will follow Him only when I am ready and after I can do good things already. But at a very young mind, with very little knowledge and understanding of the Word of God, growing in a Protestant church, I didn't know that all I have to do is surrender my life to Jesus and He will do the rest. I can do good things only because I am being led by the Holy Spirit with a strong conviction to do what pleases my Father in heaven and I struggled with that thought since I was 11 years old until I turned 20. But the Lord was so merciful that all those years He helped me seek Him, until that historic day of September 11, 1994 when I was all alone in the house and in my room that I kneel down and surrendered my life to Jesus. I got baptized by the Holy Spirit in a Holy Spirit conference of a Pentecostal church, even when no one laid hands on me. The minister told us to simply utter anything and follow them and not speaking the understandable or the English language and while I was doing that, I suddenly could not control my tongue anymore but I was conscious that I was speaking in an unknown tongue and then I felt something strong trying to push me back and then I felt my entire body lifted up as I was resisting it and I fell down on the floor. If baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues have ceased why did we still receive it in our generation? I don't think tongues have ceased already as what 1 Corinthians 13:8, says, But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed. I think all of these are still operating in our times. Because prophecies today is still here and is becoming stronger all the more that the last days is getting so close, and we need knowledge all the more now to share the Gospel to the lost. And how can we be endowed with power if the Holy Spirit will not back us up? We need the Holy Spirit's power now more than ever as lawlessness have abound in the world. We need to put on the whole armor of God because we know that, Ephesians 6:12, says, For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Healing and miracles and wonders are still much needed now though we are also strictly warned by 1 John 4, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. I believed the Lord will put a stop to prophecies, speaking in tongues and increasing of knowledge at His coming or maybe when we are finally with Him under the new heaven and the new earth. But right now, I believed it is the very reason Jesus went backed to God our Father so He can send His Holy Spirit to aid His people and much more we need the Holy Spirit's power in this very challenging times. And sometimes when I don't know what to pray anymore, just as Romans 8:26 says, In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words. And I am thankful that I draw my strength from the Lord through praying in unknown tongue. 1 Corinthians 14, Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.
I spoke in tongues at a Pentecostal church during the service and someone said it sounded like Chinese. Later in my life, I spent 14 years in China teaching ESL in universities and lived in each city where the missionary Hudson Taylor had lived. I witnessed in my spare time after making friends. I played horn in two worship teams at foreigner only churches in Nanjing and Shanghai. it was a great experience of God's love and guidance. I still speak in tongues in my private prayer language.

I used to speak in tongues early on when I was first saved, but I was never really sure of it. I did some research and discovered that one must be vert careful because it's also possible for one to think that they are praying in tongues but they're actually cursing God. I had no one to interpret for me so as to know what I was actually praying, so I stopped praying in tongues and I don't believe that to be a hardship for me. Also, I remember one time walking into a church I'd never been to before in mid-service and everyone was praying in tongues. The feeling of evil in that room was palpable. I immediately turned around and walked out. (My friend who was with me was stunned, but I insisted that I was leaving and she left too.) What I'm saying is, please folks be very, very careful... If you are praying in tongues please be sure that you can have what you're saying checked by someone who has more experience and is grounded and knowledgeable in such matters, because the spiritual realm can be quite tricky and as we all know Satan is out to deceive us every chance he gets. Good point that you made. I have heard many people speaking in tongues through the years, but never anyone interpreting, but Paul commands it in the church, 1 Cor 14: 27-28. Interesting.
For you to say, " I used to speak in tongues but I was never really SURE of it", obviously means that you never really received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the first place, and your so-called speaking in tongues was just you simply attempting to speak in tongues with your own made up words. I pray that you find the truth. For you are among the millions that have attempted to speak in tongues with your own made-up language instead of God's language. I really enjoy this man's historical outlays of biblical history. Some of the best I've seen in my almost 30 years as a son of God. It always amazes me how someone can be so gifted in these matters and somehow not get the babtism of Holy Spirit .. tongues signs wonders etc. Its right there plain as day. Lord reveal Yourself by Your Holy Spirit to this man..he's missing out on Soo much.
If you study the recent election fiasco and the complex organization between various people, countries, judges, admi officials etc you will get a slight glimpse of the EFFICIENCIES OF satan. I came out of a background of eastern religions etc and knew how satan operates. he cannot act unless humans give him power and he thrives on the ignorance and pride of humans who think they know it all. Those who deny Tongues - DELIBERATELY DENY ARE TO BE AVOIDED FOR THIS REASON - read 2Timothy 3:5. If we don't hold to this Truth as an absolute because The LORD JESUS died for this Truth that we can be where He is - John 17, and the word for Power used in His WORDS are the same as that used in 2Timothy, we are deceived and confused and weak. In Romans 16:17 on the same lines we are told to AVOID THOSE WHO PREACH A DIFFERENT GOSPEL. In a hardly ever preached message we are told not to entertain or encourage those who deny the LORD into our homes - 2John 9-11.

It’s easy to dismiss that which you do not fully understand. If you haven’t experienced the gift of speaking in tongues than people excuse the gift, deny it or make fun of it in movie’s and jokes. I can feel the grieving of the spirit in me when I hear it. It’s very dangerous to grieve the Holy Spirit!!
This is how tongues came to me. I wasn't asking for it. I didn't know one way or another if it was right or wrong. I was however in a place in my life that was so crushing and painful emotionally that I decided to cry out to God. I opened my Bible and started reading and then praying. This went on for a few hours. As I was pouring my heart out to God, I just started speaking in a spiritual language. It was a natural progression from verbally trying to tell God about my life to just speaking my heart in tongues. I did this for another hour or so and now it's an integral part of my spiritual relationship with God. It has been that way for almost 40 years. I wasn't a pentecostal. I wasn't even a member of a church. I was raised in a Episcopal church but quit going to church as a teen. One incident stand out that tells me this was from God. I was working as a ER tech in a pediatric hospital and I one day had so much joy in my heart about a situation that turned out well with a three year old patient that out of pure joy I picked the kid up and just blurted something out in tongues.( That would not have normally happened at work.) It was a situation of pure joy for the positive outcome of a child in a situation that could have gone really bad but it didn't. It went extremely well and I was just full of joy and thankfulness. I am not one to judge but I can say I've heard what I would call fake tongues and believe me it's not the same.
Thank you so much for clarifying on this. All gifts are God-given. I have never spoken in tongues but some have tried to "teach" me. I find this weird. No reason the author and finisher of my faith would fail to give me this ability, if He deemed it fit.
That's right I haven't spoke in tongues either n everywhere I've read in my Bible it talks about the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues is a gift from God. I would love to be able to speak in tongues but just like you said if the Father sees it fit for me to do so thank you for saying that. When I was baptized in water (born again) it felt like something was missing. For 3 years it was always in my mind. Then one day the Lord guided me to a bible study and later a video about baptism in the Holy Spirit. It was a Derek Prince video in how to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. That night I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. Also I could understand the bible way better. This gift is for everyone

God IS The Word, knowable and clear and perfect and precise in meaning. He is NOT the author of confusion. True “speaking in tongues” was always KNOWN languages miraculously spoken or understood by those who did not know them, given BY THE HOLY SPIRIT to GLORIFY GOD by spreading the message of Christ and His crucifixion and resurrection, and the remission of sin by faith in Him, to eternal Life. Many cults chant and spew spells and incantations in their demonic babble. For all we know they are cursing and blaspheming the Living God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
I came to Christ in my 40s. I grew up in a mainline denomination but never grasped that I was a sinner and in need of a savior. I thought it was all about being good and going to church or something. When I was saved, and it happened supernaturally, I joined a local reformed church and became grounded in doctrine but over the years became dry. Then a new pastor was hired who happened to be charismatic. He wasn’t a nut. He loved Christ. He is deeply immersed in scripture and he is very smart. He persuaded me that the gifts of the Spirit did not end either by the authority of scripture nor experientially. I believe in miracles and the power of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Eventually I ended up in a charismatic church. So over three years what did I see and experience? I saw sincere Christians all babbling at the same time, not in order, and without interpretation. You could not hear the prayers so you could not agree. This was mostly in a group not affiliated with my church. I cannot count the number of false prophecies, false healings, and and false declarations I heard. So often there were those who took their own subjective emotions and authenticated them as coming from God. There was also pride involved in exercising the gifts. None of this disproves the power of God, only that men are sinners. I heard preachers claim that healing is entirely dependent on your own faith and that physicians, nurses, hospitals, and medicine are not part of God’s providence, which is false. Miracles do occur but they are most often where the gospel is being advanced against Islam, animism, and false religions as well as where modern medicine is unavailable or where doctors can do no more. Ultimately God is sovereign in healing. The most disturbing movement is the declaring and decreeing movement with new apostles having the same authority as Scripture. There is a middle ground, which is scriptural, that does not deny gifts but tells how they are to be exercised. Some of the contemporary revivals where men and women are writhing around in ecstasy and making animals noises is never seen in the Bible. David did dance with joy when the ark returned but he did not bark like a dog or laugh for days hysterically. I cannot imagine what God thinks of the health and wealth, name it and claim, it movement which merchandizes Christ’s blood and fleeces the sheep. We are to neither deny the power of the Holy Spirit nor abuse Him but be led by him. So many charismatics have reversed the order. It is little wonder that the work of the Spirit has been shamed by so much abuse in His name. So while many may disagree with John Barnett, the scandalous abuses of the gifts in the name of God have done considerable damage to the body of Christ.
I spoke in tongues after being water baptized in the name of Jesus Christ... Love your teachings, but respectfully think that speaking in tongues is a sign of receiving the Holy Sprit. I now speak in tongues everyday and it brings such grace and peace
By that theology the Bible isn't sufficient to tell us the truth about this only your personal experience. A lot of people claim Christianity only to contradict scripture for family, heritage or pride.
I was in the spirit once and heard doves cooing....it was so absolutely wonderful and I could have listened to it for hours. I asked the Lord "Lord, who is speaking in tongues?" This was prophesized over me by Prophet Kim Clement...he said that I would hear the birds sing (something the congregation thought was wonderful)...and God is going to cause that because...well, that is just the sort of thing he does sometimes!" He didn't answer me then but after much musing, I realized it had to have been me and the Holy Spirit! I also think I know the reason too! There is a scripture in Song of Solomon about turtles singing and the thought of turtles singing struck me as amusing. Whenever I read that I would say "Lord, what do turtles sound like when they sing?" I have to laugh...turtle (doves) sound wonderful. This is a gift I experience occasionally...God has gifted me with Word of Wisdom and Miracles but I have experienced most of the gifts at one time or another. Anyhow, don't tell me that God doesn't have a sense of humor!
I pray to God that He gives revelation to many people who believe that speaking in tongues is not for today's believers. I can tell you all yes it is still for today. This is my testimony about it. When I got born again a few years ago, I didn't have a clue what the Holy Spirit was, nor was I aware of any gifts of the Holy Spirit etc. I didn't grow up in church, so I didn't know what Christianity was all about. I didn't get born-again at church either, I was just at home watching TV and God decided it was time for me to know Him, by His grace. He instantly opened up my understanding about Jesus when I watched a Christian channel one day, something I never did before, but that day something made me watch the channel. Anyway, after I gave my life to Christ, I continued to watch the Christian channels on TV and read the Bible, and watched some RU-vid videos. I then got to learn about speaking in tongues. I watched RU-vid videos about the topic and realised that believers were divided about speaking in tongues. So I got confused, being a new born Christian. I prayed to God for help, because I thought I didn't want to miss out on anything God has given to His church. So one day I decided I would just go along with one teacher and learn how to allow the Holy Spirit to speak through me. I started speaking in tongues, but in my human mind I thought it was silly, it sounded stupid to say the least. Anyway I decided to continue with it. One morning when I just woke up, and prayed in tongues, I just thought to myself "oh this is nonsense, I don't want to do it anymore", so I stopped praying in tongues and turned over my side to go back to sleep. As soon as I had turned over, BOOM, my spiritual eyes were opened and I was staring at someone else's eyes, who was looking back at me. This was a vision, not a dream. I didn't recognise Him, but I could tell it was a man. It was just eyes, no face, surrounded by a beautiful glorious red colour. I asked Him who He was, we communicated through our eyes, or telepathically. He responded and said that He was Jesus Christ. Then I saw love through His eyes, sorry I don't know how to explain this, but yes, I saw love. Very intense love, On this vision Jesus taught me at least 4 things including the fact that speaking in tongues is biblical, it is for today as well, and God hears us when we speak in tongues. It is not nonsense. So believers please speak/pray in tongues, the devil will attack you to make you fearful to try and stop you, but be courageous and keep praying, he will soon flee. Praying in tongues opens many doors that the devil had shut. That's why he doesn't like it when we pray in tongues. Sorry for the long testimony, I hope it has encouraged many of you. That was a very clear and an amazing teaching on the subject. I was an ordained Assembly of God minister and claimed the experience of speaking in Tounges . I graduated from Bible College with a degree in ministry and a minor in Bible, but was also indoctrinated into the "Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tounges" teaching of the AG. As I begins To intently study the subject and to expose myself to other opinions I began to see how the experience may not be Biblical, and how difficult it was for me to believe that it was not real since I claimed the experience and was so real to me . This is the crux of the matter , is objective truth determine by my feelings and experience or by the clear teaching in scripture. Those who support only want to look at specific verses as I did to support their positions and. It The Who context of culture and history. I found that while there are individuals who claim the experience are Godly and love the lord the movement as a who has been very destructive to Christianity. 1. Most modern day heresy comes from the Charismatic Movement like the health wealth prosperity gospel. 2. It leads many people to believe that they are saved and have been born again just by claiming a feeling in a church service and thinking that they felt God , but at no point had they heard or understood the Gospel and felt conviction as a sinner. 3. I think the movement has undermined the the reverence and fear for th God head by emotional exuberance and sayings like we must press in until the spirit moves . Missionary's will tell many heather tribes claim a tounge experience when appealing to their false gods, and mNy witch doctors have also performed healings. 4. We have to give more credits to the teachings of scripture than to our own emotion experience.. we now have the word of God available to us so we cal all know the truth. In Paul's day the scriptures were being written God used signs and healings and supernatural things to establish the chief to demonstrate the power of God to those who believe. I believe God can do all those things only in answer to prayer and according to His will 5. I believe a great falling away is coming and it will be in my opinion largely among those whose faith rest entirely on theirs personal emotions experience and not on the testimony of the Scripture. Remember Pharohs magicians performed a lot of the same signs as Moses. My first loyalty is to God and His word first and not to any denomination or their teachings even though I belong to one now that believes tounges is no longer in operation today
Thank you for not "tickling my ears," brother. Speaking in tongues is a very dangerous misconception that the enemy has utilized to separate Christ's church. We both know that in Revelation, John says of a great apostasy, and I believe that these "emotional experiences" will play a big part. I grew up in the pentecostal church at a young age, then married into the catholic church, but by the Grace of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit I was rescued from those "churchs." I went through a dark time because I didn't have the gift of tounges and had asked but never received because I heard from a prophet that I watch say that you have to speak in tounges or you don't have the spirit. I started to dangerously believe that it was the key to salvation and not Jesus, i can't believe that I almost went in that direction and didn't notice because of how worried I was over it. I'm glad I eventually got over that and started to improve my walk with Christ, I'm a much different person now.

I speak in tongues daily and often with Holy Spirit gives me utterance. I noticed when I visited a Calvary Church in my Miami Florida, to witness a well known RU-vid guest speaker and I quickly observed that church did not have any power nor presence of the Holy Spirit. This now makes sense, if the Calvary Churches don't believe or subscribe in the speaking of tongues. I did pray in tongues quietly while I was attending, but I had no desire to return to that Calvary Church in Miami, but I still like most of Dr. Barnett Teachings, and no one perfect. I pray that one day Dr. Barnett and his wife would receive the gift of tongues, but he and she must want it. Its a free gift of the Holy Spirit to be communicate to our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven.
The Word " tongues" in the original Greek that the N.T. was written in is singular not plural meaning " another language" and " a language". So when the believers recieved the Holy Spirit in Acts ch.2 they all began to speak in another language( singular) or they all began to speak in a language ( singular). The miracle for those in the crowd was that they heard what the believers were saying in one language in their individual languages. This is a sign to unbelievers that God was at work there, the men in the crowd were the unbelievers.
@@TruckTruck-gu9vs How is that out of context? In both tha time and ours, you have people saying "I will believe if I see a sign" and Jesus said they "will see no sign but that of Jonah" (Meaning they will be told to repent). I don't see how that's out of context at all.
@@USMCRebels Jesus plainly says what the meaning of the sign of Jonah is: as Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights... Your contention is aimed towards the wrong crowd. It's not true that the unbelieving Jews didn't see any signs or got, so clearly Jesus was not referring to that. Just perform so many miracles and signs yet they did not believe him and did not see him as a Messiah. Here we are talking about people that do believe him and see him as the Messiah and the Son of God. They aren't saying that they won't believe Jesus is the Savior if they don't see a sign or get a sign. There's so much misquoting and misattributing of Scriptures going on no wonder many Christians are confused.

I had been seeking the Lord for the gift of tongues for quite sometime. I was on a 21 day full fast seeking Him with all of my heart. One day, day 18 of my fast in my personal prayer and worship time, as I began to call on the name of Jesus, I began to feel an overwhelming need to be closer and closer to Christ. I was in tears that never seemed to end. As I was crying and wailing, I felt a bubbling in my spirit and I just wanted to worship Jesus forever. The love that welled up in me and washed over me was incredible. When words ran out I felt the Holy Ghost envelop me from the outside and welling up on the inside and as I was about to tell Jesus all that was in my heart the Holy Spirit took over my tongue and my words and I allowed Him to do so. It was the most beautiful encounter I've ever had with my Lord. So much love and peace that I can't explain. Just there alone with the Father, The Savior and the Holy Spirit. It was so beautiful and amazing. I had been seeking for a long time. I kept asking and finally I asked for the last time and I finally I received. My Father God,My precious Savior Yeshua Hamashiach and the wonderful Holy Spirit WOULD NEVER ALLOW ME or any other believer to get wrapped up in anything evil asking specifically for a gift He already said that we can have (Luke 11:13). I belong to Elohim. He has many gifts to give His children and the gift of tongues is one of them. Don't let anyone deceive you out of your God given gifts. Or deceive you into blasphemy! Seek the Lord. He Himself will prove it to you. I would also like to leave this scripture: Matthew 12:31 kjv And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him:but WHOSOEVER SPEAKETH AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST, IT SHALL NOT BE FORGIVEN HIM IN THIS WORLD, NEITHER IN THE WORLD TO COME. What do you all think the english language is? Or any other language of this world? The english language is nothing more than some sounds and syllables placed together forming letter sounds, words, sentences ect. To someone who has never heard english could very well say " Oh that's just babbling, that's not a real language" I am extremely appalled at how some of you claim to serve the one true living God Most High and have absolutely no faith that He Himself gives meaning to the languages that you don't understand. How could anyone think so little of our Creator.... You know the One who creates? And if He creates why is a Holy language beyond his limits in the eyes of some of you and this teacher posting deception? Be extremely careful and be extra sensitive to the Holy Spirit and do not grieve Him or speak against Him or His gifts when you don't know the truth. Because the truth is that blaspheming the Holy Ghost and listening to people who are blaspheming the Holy Ghost could land you in hell. Call upon Jesus. He is truth. I spoke in tongues about 40 years ago. Once it started, it was uncontrollable. I only speak one language. As tears of happiness were pouring out of my eyes, I remember thinking "what's happening?". Speaking from experience, a person can't stop it, speak normally then go back to speaking in tongues. Those that do are faking it! People fake it just to be accepted. It only happened to me twice.
I’m not sure what to make of this presentation…. I do know of an Australian preacherThe Aussie Pastor, Pastor Lloyd, who regularly goes to Papua New Guinea to preach and does bring many to the Lord. When he speaks, something amazing happens. While he is speaking in perfect English, the listeners are hearing the message in their own native pigeon tongue. This is remarkable because there are many local dialects In The New Guinea mountains and there are very few people who speak more than a few of those. Pastor Lloyd, the preacher from new hope in Sydney, Australia says the Holy Spirit is doing this…. To me, this sounds very much like the experience the disciples had at the day of Pentecost. This is what I always thought tongues is, rather than the crowd of church-growers all praying unintelligible things simultaneously.

The church's modern day version of tongues in no resembles what our disciples experienced. Act 2:8 Implies that each man heard and understood in their own language. In addition Act 10:46 "For they were hearing them speaking with tongues praising God". Clearly their speech WAS UNDERSTOOD for the audience to understand God was being praised. This in now way shape or form resembles the gibberish passed off in the churches of today which NO ONE is able to decipher or understand.

I Corinthians 14:2 Paul says right there that no one understands them... The EXACT opposite of what you just claimed.

Very much like unbelievers can't understand the love of God, Christians who haven't experienced this cannot relate to it. Coming from Catholicism, I was skeptical of such things after transitioning to Assembly of God. Many times at the alter men laid hands on me but I didnt believe. I often prayed that God would reveal the truth to me. One day, at home alone, much like when I accepted Christ, the Spirit filled my heart and I began to speak in words other than English. I have never spoke in tongues in public anywhere, but when the Spirit moves me, I may pray with this beautiful, quiet voice. I'm out of the AG for years, but I still have this gift. It is not important to speak in tongues. It has not helped me to avoid sin, or gain special favor with God. It is important to love God and our neighbor.

Maybe sometimes God would show me it works by someone saying at 2 am they hit some ice and dont know how they are alive and then you reliase that was when you woke up to pray the night it happened. Then lots of times you just pray and never know besides someone needed prayer and I did what the Holy Spirit told me to do. I also pray daily in the spirit. Maybe for you? have heard messages in tongues in church many times with interpitation and it was always sweet and good straight from God!

Doesn’t Jesus make reference to a “new tongue” in Mark 16:17 where Jesus says "these signs will follow those that believe... they shall speak in new tongues" is not the context of scripture referring to all things supernatural e.g. casting out demons, laying hands on sick etc? The law of first mention seems to be here with Jesus and not in Acts. This also seems to correlate with John 7:38-39. I propose a question: what language did Adams and Eve speak in the garden? My own Experience was when I was working in a food bank, and I was behind the kitchen window when a woman and her daughter came up, and they were dressed as muslims.. Arabic anyways.. so, as I started to speak to them, all of a sudden I was not speaking my language, and the mother started to cry.. whereupon the daughter told me that her mother heard me say in her tongue that gave Relief and direction and had started to cry because she had been scared and was comforted, and her daughter was really excited and moved as well.... as I was. It was so cool. I am not to tell you what was said to them as that is between them.. but I am just sharing that in Acts, when the people were Holy Spirit baptized, and the tongues of fire came upon them, they all spoke in different tongues and the people Outside all heard each their own native tongues being spoken, and they understood what "those people" were saying .. some were amazed and some were calling them drunk. Now, I do not know where you were going with in "answer" to my comment, but I do hope you now see it is not my "own belief" I spoke of, but some thing I had Actually Witnessed. So we GOT to CALM DOWN... First off.... Be STILL and KNOW that I AM THE LORD. Are we quiet inside? Do we WAIT ON HIM? Are we , each our own selves, REALLY HONEST with our own self, and with HIM? Something prompts me to jot PSALM 51. Do we, each our Own selves, Have a Relationship With HIM, and Does HE Know you/me? Many times we are so very "active" but He wants us to be trusting in HIM in His direction to come to Him and quiet down so we our own self CAN KNOW HIM, and then Know our Own selves, --- which Enables the directive in Matthew 7, first verses, to however long He The LORD will lead you, or whoever this directive is for.------ which Enables ones' statements to others to BE EFFECTIVE and Clear, to who ever it IS FOR. ( and , oh yes, verse 6 is so definitely a caution to note! Because There IS people who Actually Do NOT Care one way or the other. A double minded person IS unstable in ALL their ways) And yes, this is all being written in prayer in Jesus Christ.

As soon as I had turned over, BOOM, my spiritual eyes were opened and I was staring at someone else's eyes, who was looking back at me. This was a vision, not a dream. I didn't recognise Him, but I could tell it was a man. It was just eyes, no face, surrounded by a beautiful glorious red colour. I asked Him who He was, we communicated through our eyes, or telepathically. He responded and said that He was Jesus Christ. Then I saw love through His eyes, sorry I don't know how to explain this, but yes, I saw love. Very intense love, On this vision Jesus taught me at least 4 things including the fact that speaking in tongues is biblical, it is for today as well, and God hears us when we speak in tongues. It is not nonsense. So believers please speak/pray in tongues, the devil will attack you to make you fearful to try and stop you, but be courageous and keep praying, he will soon flee. you are so right! this man does not know what he is talking about. I've spoken in tongues for 50 years. it is an UNKNOWN tongue that happened in acts2,8,10, and 19. the reason that in acts 2 "they" heard their language was that "the hearing was the miracle" as "they heard" not that they spoke in all these languages. When you receive the Holy ghost you give the spirit the way to testify through you that he has arrived into you, he gives the utterance. the unknown tongues is not a language of ANY man, it is the heavenly language that God desires for us to pray in. Yes we know that and thats why we r in such a mess - because someone in the church stands up and says and the Holy Spirit said this to me and everyone is afraid to call them out. Hence we have all the crazy churches filled with people working under cover of the spirit told me or God said this to me. Christians, we mean well but threaten us with being dammed for all time and we kinda lose our thirst for the truth. Your interpretation of that verse is a little flawed. It isn’t that the sin would not be forgiven but that the one needing the forgiveness would never ask. Once a person hardens their heart to the drawing of the Holy Spirit at some point the Holy Spirit ceases to draw them.

Greek word in NT is glossa - meaning: 1. the tongue, a member of the body, an organ of speech , a tongue 2. the language or dialect used by a particular people distinct from that of other nations. Reading the bible and just using normal logic, yes definitely a language. ;)
