Asha explains in this video the difference between "flipping" and "cusping" during Gazelle and Lion Transitions. Flipping is best used for flat set ups and cusping for rockered set ups. A rocketed frame does make the cusping easier and create that distinctive Wizardy, swishy style.

I think I learnt more in that 5 minutes than I have managed to lean in hours of watching all the other Gazelle tutorials on you tube where people just magically start going the other direction .... definitely the best trainer out there, thanks

That's very kind of you.....this isn't really even a proper tutorial video but it does explain and show the differences between Flipping and Cusping (which no one ever talks about) and thus shows you how the rocketed frames help with that swishy, wizard 'look'. But it means you can start your wizard skating journey wherever you're at right now and with whichever skates/frames you've got.

SkatefreshAsha bingo: ✅ Clear instructions ✅ Looks way easier than it is ✅ Fancy leggings But now to some questions: Are these original Wizard frames? Do you know how they compare to other rockered frames? I own a pair of Powerslide skates and thus am limited to the Trinity mouting system (as fas as I know), but I saw they sell rockered frames for that system and have wondered whether they would work for wizard skating as well. They are also much cheaper than the original Wizard frames.

Your bingo comment made me laugh.... The frames I'm wearing in this video are the @endlessblading 4x90mm frame. I have never worn the original Wizard frames (by Leon Basin) so I'm afraid I cannot comment on how they differ. I've only worn the Endless and the @nnskates 4x90mm and they are very similar (except the NNs have a 1mm higher rocker in the back wheel than the Endless). So I can highly recommend both of these frames as I wear them in rotation (about 6 months on each and then swap). Someone who may have skated on all of them who might be able to give you a better opinion is my friend in NYC @sonicskates. I know he's wearing the original Wizard frame now.....

😂 Thanks for pointing it out! Buying a rockered setup doesn’t automatically mean you will perform these wizard moves.
@xileets

Over time, if you never rotate your wheels front to back (just flipping them side to side to maintain an even edge), they will naturally develop a rocker, BUT then you're stuck cuz your wheels are different sizes. Or you struggle with an anti-rocker, as I did for a few months. My ice hockey friend also picked up skates that came with rockered wheels, and he noticed a big dif.
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos Месяц назад
The subtle rocker of these wizard style frames (such as @endlessblading and @nnskates) is less severe than the traditional slalom rocker, and yes it makes rotating wheels a bit more complex. After I've rotated my wheels I always put them on a table or flat surface and then assess the rocker amount and make adjustments if the rocker isn't happening. So far this has worked for me fine.

@@SkatefreshVideos It doesn't have to be that complicated Asha. I have a caliper and the smallest wheels always go in the middle. Even with the 3x 100 setup. With the 3x 100 the largest wheel goes to the front because it always wears out the fastest. Any other configuration will destroy the configuration in the long run.

I think it’s a great advantage to learn how to do it on flat and rockered, flat also has so many advantages in a urban/street environment (stronger push,more stability and better breaking ability in my experience,I do still love my rockered frames though especially for wizard skating)

Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. It's nice to have two pairs, one for urban cruise and another for tricks, but it costly! Hehe

i am an absolute beginner, but the flip is the only way i figured out to change direction. Now i should start wizard skating :p
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos Месяц назад
Yes the Flip is often the first self-taught transitioning method that people try. The only problem with it is that it has a fairly low speed limit and at higher speeds you'll want to learn and master the Mohawk (heel-to-heel) transition, but you can do that later. If you are transitioning to backwards already then you are not a complete beginner! Certainly a fast learner and a natural.

Thanks for the helpful video. One question: what if you're transitioning from backward to forward? Do you flip on your front wheel or back?
@SkatefreshVideos
@SkatefreshVideos 9 дней назад
Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. Transitioning from backwards to forwards you flip on your heels. It feels quite scary, but if you bend your knees properly and the flip is quick it's alright.

While I really celebrate the development in the skating "industry", I think natural rockered frames are overhyped. Nothing against them, but they have exactly that: the amount of rocker that just develops over time if you are too lazy to swap your wheels. As I know from an interview, the 1st endless frame wanted to resemble just this. With success: I once measured my 4*80 flat setup's rocker after not bothering to swap wheels for weeks - it was practically the same as endless' natural rocker (higher at the front, very subtle at the back - NN frames have a slightly higher rocker at the back, but still lower than the front). So if you want to have a dedicated rockered skate setup, it's all the same whether you buy or "develop" the rocker yourself. I like rockered frames, but definitely would not suggest a beginner to buy a 2nd frame for her 1st pair of skates just for the rocker. Or, as Asha told it here: it's your technique that counts, not the gear.
@pit9623
@pit9623 21 день назад
That's just what you think, but it makes a difference whether I have an endless rail with 1mm rocker when I turn the wheels or, for example, a flat 4x90 from Powerslide. Even the Combat rocker 4x90 from Powerslide can't hold a candle to the Endless frame
@peterpandur8691
@peterpandur8691 21 день назад
@@pit9623 I guess you mean that the frame is superior regardless of the rockering, am I right? Of course, endless frames are nicely designed, stiff, good quality. What I meant is that rockering doesn't tell it all. I'd prefer a stiff flat frame to a crappy rockered one anytime.

Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. The point is that with a rockered frame (Wizard, NN, Endless, etc.), even like the one freestyle slalom people use (either rockable axles or smaller outer wheels), you can perform the tricks having brand new wheels, so you don't need to wait till they get worn out. You can definitely do the tricks after some lazy I-don't-want-to-rotate time, but you are wasting wheels that way because wheels that are not rotated wear out faster, very unevenly and lose strength (they don't respond properly). The whole point of replacing wheels is to recover the grip, the speed and good performance. You said something about beginners at the end; well, a beginner should not be trying to wizard skate in the first place, so buying a rockered frame would definitely be a silly decision for a beginner.
@pit9623
@pit9623 9 дней назад
@@peterpandur8691 it depends on what the frame is used for. For higher speeds with extremely good maneuverability, I prefer 3x100 on my Endless 80/84/100 frame. For even more maneuverability, like with ice skates, I ride the Endless 90/100 LR frame with 4x 90 or 4x80. This cannot be compared to a normal flat frame, even with worn rocker. Even if I put wheels 1 and 4 in the middle when they are too worn, the rocker of the frame is still clearly noticeable. I have tested many frames and Endless has the best. I would even recommend an Endless 4x 90 frame to beginners. You can also ride it with 4x 80 if you are a beginner. Depending on your shoe size, you should choose between an Endless 80 and a 90 frame. There are of course other frames for pure speed skating, but that is not my priority. I could imagine that a 4x90 Ego Sl frame from Powerslide would be worth a try. It has a good length and is relatively inexpensive but of high quality. Unfortunately it is not available as a Katana frame.
@pit9623
@pit9623 9 дней назад
@@SkatefreshVideos There was no mention of a Wizard frame either. An Endless 80/84/100 frame is very agile and an excellent choice for a beginner. Much better than a 243mm frame without subtle rocker. That's my own experience.

I have 2 neatly folded piles of leggings, so about 15 pairs in total. On my recent USA tour I only took 6 pairs and felt like I was always wearing the same thing! Keep watching. You'll see them all coming back around.
