Hi Laura - thanks for posting. I pray you will totally recover and find the strength to continue a wonderful and healthy life! You are very courageous to share your story and I am thankful as I am about to hit the same road. I am 58 and learned recently through colonoscopy (3 in 8 months), I will lose my entire colon. Not sure if they will leave my rectum in tact but I must admit, the future looks very scary. No symptoms, family history or known disease - just polyps (100s) - some pre-cancer.
they don't seem for the most part to be shallow about it. You're right about the nerve racking part about telling a new partner. A funny aside-I miss being able to fart (and I owe people) . We keep rolling onward don't we? Cheers from Canada.
Laura, just to clarify, water is absorbed in the large bowel, there is very little absorption occurs in the small bowel hence the softer output. Different foods affect the thickness of the output. You are a truly beautiful young woman at the prime of her life...stay as strong as you can during the good times and the bad. What are you studying at college? Keep Smiling xx~C~xx
Who do you get supplies from? I have enough bags and wafers to last until mid October and I paid almost 300 (before insurance) is all something like 285. Now this is strictly bags/wafers and does not include if I were to but stoma powder, barrier wipes or removers and the ever popular M9 odor controller.
as a mohther i could not imagine my daughter going through so much so young ....i know my daughter (which is 23) wouldnt want to share all her pain emotionally and physically just to protect me ..i guess my ? is do you protect her to degree or tell her everything? sure i would want her to but i just know she wouldnt want me to worry too much
Hey Laura, thanks for doing this video. Unless you had more than one, I was the one who asked about you having a lucky guy. :P I truly admire you and thank you for posting these videos. It was you who helped me almost completely get over the shallow side of colostomy as far as how I look and what people think. I still have my bad days, but you gave me a huge push in the right direction. Thanks!:)Dave
I have Aetna through Obama care, United is good, I use to work for Medicare for a year or so... they are all about the same though on different products, the differences on specific products vary wild from insurance to insurance.
There's a show called "Rookie Blue" & this actress was new on the show and I could swear it was you! As far as insurance look into groups you can join that offer group health care insurance that will accept those with pre-existing conditions. For example, some Real Estate Associations offer health insurance (group) when you become a member. It usually just involves taking a few courses online or the classroom & then the state exam. Then you just join the state Realtor board. I may or not be doi
That's so funny you mentioned you miss farting. I have an 8 year old nephew, and he has seen me lose both my legs and get my colostomy. I've tried to make these things as "normal" for him as possible. Often he and I will wrestle. During the course of wrestling, I get a lot of gas buildup. Then I pull my ultimate move which is called "the stink bomb" by allowing the gas buildup to release from the bag. He hates it but laughs and yells at me for doing it. lol
