Not sure what video you watched, but Kevin put 2 well placed shots on that Zebra. The Zebra was dead on his feet after the first shot, it just had not realized it yet. The second shot, though not necessary, was put right where it needed to be also. That’s how it played out nicely.
And that's with a heavy expanding jacketed bullet not known for large expansion, an affordable option to ve sure. This is huge... an everyman subsonic hunting round that can drop a zebra. It's also a wonderful sign that hornady might actually be putting more love into this than just brass on the DL for the Benjamin's, and post renaming the round, they have seemed way less supportive. Is this a good sign they're actually going to help subsidize scales up production and drive costs down? (Looks at prices at Gorilla and Discrete)... oh geez, I hope so. I can buy 50 beowulf for cheaper.
@@ballisticlt7452 how do you know that they are using SubX in this video? Did they list it somewhere? Most videos testing this round using subs are either target loads, or maker bullets, or gorilla bullets. Hornady just announced they're going to do a 338 subx, but that announcement was way after Q was testing this.
I'm gonna get at least 1 or two firearms in 8.6 BLK eventually but have a question... What load/barrel/suppressor combination were you using here (bullet weight/type/etc...)? Maybe a [300gr?] subsonic load [1K'ish FPS] out of a sub-9" barrel w/ a 10" suppressor? I'm curious about a POF Rogue 12.5" w/suppressor offering eventually [in 8.6 BLK]... & a POF Rogue compatible upper in 277 Fury with the same forced reset trigger (or binary trigger enabled) lower.
1. They eat them. 2. They’re hunted because otherwise they breed like crazy and destroy the plant life needed for other animals to survive. We have a similar problem with wild horse in American but because we stupidly hate hunting and think the problem will magically solve itself, wild horses are having a devastating impact on the wild environment.
🤔 I’m building an AR10 right now, haven’t decided on a barrel yet. The build is for hunting Deer and Hog. I was gonna do .308 but I recently fell in these 8.6 BLK videos .
Culling for herd health Meat for the table Hide for whatever Honestly, tho, I think the point here was to show what the 8.6 BLK does on a horse-sized animal. Mind you, they could have just shot a couple Angus steers in Nebraska for less cost overall.
Honestly I think the answer is because he can there’s no moral justification there’s no human justification there is no justification! These rich guys used to go overseas and bribe officials to kill these endangered animals but after they started getting arrested some rich people decided to bring these endangered animals here to America and charge a lot of money to let people come murder them!
Old zebras past breeding age are extremely aggressive, and actively try to kill all the younger males in the herd. They take being an asshole to a new level, they are purposely destructive and untameable. There is a reason nobody has domesticated zebras. Also everyone agrees they are delicious.
Think the shot may have a lung shot, and at what distance? You also may not giving credit to the animal. Probably a 700lb wild African animal, they're fucking tough man. I think it was more shot placement than anything. That bullet, and rifle are two that i would use on anything here States side. Nice work guys, thank you for spending all your money, brain juice pushing the industry into the future.
Noticed I was playing with my mini fix too much and my 308 fix stayed in the safe too long so I just got my 12” barrel and new hand guard and top rail got a Porq Chop in jail and some gorilla 342 grain subs on the way. I’m’a name it big poppa and have kotes of anarchy paint it multicam black. Can’t wait for deer season next year
I’m going to be honest here. To me it didn’t look like that round really had the power to knock that animal down. he had to shoot it twice what looks like a pretty good chest shot. Yes if you put enough holes in things that shouldn’t have holes in it your going to kill it. But that seem like it was way under powered than should have been used. Borderline unethical. Hey maybe I’m wrong, but that zebra look like he wasn’t going to drop.
Look into the 375 Raptor. Better ballistics than 8.6blk from the same cartridge case. Why shoot 300gr subsonic when the 375 raptor shoots 270gr @2200fps and 400gr subsonic. Lol the 375 Raptor shoots 8.6blk bullet weight supersonic.
This whole project doesnt make sense. Why wouldnt you just copy the .338 whisper so you can put it in ar 15 platforms? It can push 300 gr bullets to max ss velocity.
@@Heist1000 yes, but i didnt look at overall length with those bullets. J.D. Jones original data was for 300gr bullets at 1050 fps. He developed the 300 and 338 whisper side by side, the 300 becoming the 300 blackout.
Because then they'd just have the 338 Whisper. This is a different cartridge altogether. Copying what's already there is not the point of wildcatting a new cartridge.
This is an example of what not to do! As an avid hunter that was essentially the same as hunting with a 22Lr. Just because you can does not mean you should! Having to take 2 shots for that kill when you can hunt with a more capable round just tells me all I need to know!
Shoot till it's down. The first shot was the kill shot. Perfectly placed. However, Zebra are very tough and when their adrenaline kicks in they can run a long time before going down. Kevin reacted and placed another great shot on target. The round itself is VERY capable. Cape Buffalo capable. BUT, you're an Avid hunter so you must know more than us! Thank you for your feedback.
@@qllc8143 I've been hunting my whole life, using a subsonic round for this application just seems like unnecessary suffering for the animal. I've shot big game and had them run before going down so I understand, and prefer to try not to have that adrenaline rush if possible. I just personally think this is more to push an agenda over the integrity behind hunting. To each their own I guess. Nice looking firearm though, Happy Trails partner.
@@qllc8143 Appreciate the feedback, I will look into it. Thanks for conversation. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years to you and your family, God Bless. ☃️🎄🎁🌨️🥃
Have you considered that ending something else's life, simply for the fun of it, is not very kind? I don't believe you would think very highly of someone who shot your dog, for no reason other than it amused them.
Like the round. Seems good. Doing a slow build on one. I believe most of you need to do some research on the actual rifle and educate yourself. The rifle is working different principles to achieve the same tissue damage a magnum does. Why waste the powder when you don't have to. Think about it. What have been going through the last three years? Obviously most of you don't reload your own pew pews. Smell where I'm stepping big dogs?
@@kevinbrittingham6774 the video made it look like it was 2. amazing shot/shots btw. i can't wait to get my hands on 8,6 fix. you guys are doing innovative and exciting stuff dude
That’s exactly what I was thinking!! Reading these comments I was just blown away that people think this its cool!! I love shooting stuff I mean I am all about guns and shooting and I would rather shoot Enemies of America I would say before I would shoot a zebra but I would never shoot a zebra I think it’s disgusting to shoot these endangered animals!
