In this video, I'm looking at the quad channel bodyboard and whether or not it's the next big thing! I want to know if it's better than regular bodyboarding and if it'll help you understand bodyboard technology better.
So if you're curious about the quad channel bodyboard and want to know if it's the next big thing, watch this video and decide for yourself! I hope you find it helpful!

Valuable feedback here, thank you. I have been contemplating a quad channel for a while, but now I know I will probably only ride it when I want more speed on a faster wave, which will not be that often. My riding style is more about stalls and messing around in the sweet spot. I will pick one up eventually, though.

I think most people who just ride as a hobby wouldn't really tell the difference compared to someone who has specific preferences and rides at a higher level.

Thanks Iain! I accidentally bought a quad channel board but stoked to test it out. Not advanced at all, so probably won't feel anything, but good to know that there are some nuances. As others said, you were def killing it on both boards

Appreciate that. I don’t think the board is at all bad but just not sure it’s the best for me. It’s a super fast board and will work super well in fast barrelling places. So enjoy it 🤙🏼

ya it should be slower. channel bottom have more surface area the water covers creating more friction. also there is less flotation from core foam deleted for the channels. im from way back so remember when many boards didn't have channels and lots of riders were against them for these reasons. Tom morey really nailed it first shot
@anthonygato407

other than subtle changes, mostly the bodyboard shape hasn't really changed much since the beginning. there was a good article about board shape and channels and materials and manufacturing methods in bodyboarding magazine in the late 80s early 90s a discussion between mike Stewart, Ben severson, and jp Paterson.

Thanks so much for this video. Since I started riding quad channels I've bean struggling to control my board in the pocket or hit more tricky sections because my board slips out a lot and loses it's line and speed. I thought i just lost the right technique but now I realize it definitely from the quad channels wich on my board are also very shallow.

For me it feels like I have more speed with quad vent/ sci-five. But I don’t have as much control but idk if that is from my usual 2 channels has a crescent tail and quad vent has a bat tail. Rail control on the barrel is a little more harder but once u master it, u can have an amazing time with it for me I like it bc I like the speed I get since on reef I can drop in late and still get in the barrel. It all depends where u surf bc it you have more time to ride and want to stay in pocket and more control the normal channels might be good enough or more favorable

Man, great content🔥. And you've nailed it. I only use the quad for surgery reef slabs or long fast barrelling waves. On a beachy wedge under 4ft it's not the best for my style as I'm fighting against it to do any type of forward or reverse spin. Good for the quiver but not the workhorse for those specific days of just wanting to throw some tail around. Keep inspiring bru👊🏽

Not much experience, but I felt a bit the same. Is it possible that the looseness felt when engaging rail could just be the feeling the outer channels losing flow? Seems like what you gain down the face and on the bottom turn you lose when you rail for extended time.

Good morning young prodigy! Hope you’re having a great rest of your year! Without even trying it I am not a fan of that quad set up. I’m sure for some. It’ll work out just perfectly with whatever they do/their style of body boarding. But personally dual channels are plenty sufficient in my opinion. Thanks Iain that actually confirms my feelings toward the quad concave channels, I have one and it feels at times that I really need to work hard to keep my line - on some sections I've literally slid out which is very odd. I just got a vented quad can't wait to try it looks far more suttle and familiar (not nearly as dramatic as the concave), hoping it will provide that extra bit of lift without the "negative side effects". All fun though nice to see manufacturers try new things, each to their own I suppose. Well done on a super year, always great to follow your progress and the cool vids on youtube. Best wishes man

You should try single to double concave ...it's a middle ground between the two ..like you say the quads quicker then a quick thing but the bite factor ..yet on a traditional channel board you miss the speed but the control is there A single to double concave is the best of both worlds

I used a channeled board by BZ back in 1984 - sounds like the same problems exist - still consider larger waves as a channeled board allows you to overcome rough sections on larger faster waves - this is a good board for people needed more hand holding when transitioning from small and medium sized swells to larger and faster breaks. This board is good for days you decide not to expend much energy with less in the pocket railing.
