Quad Lock - Phone Mount Install - BMW R1250 GS Adventure GPS Sat Nav Cradle Replacement

I like when someone shows a detailed and clear “How to” . well done!! . However if I am to buy all the accessories needed it will get me close to the BMW connected ride cradle for mobile phone, which I am actually using. It clicks on the sat nav cradle and the phone is relatively secured inside. It works flawlessly with the Wonder Wheel ( for the connected ride app only of course). In order to avoid dropping my iPhone or exposing it to the elements, I am waiting for the Chigee AIO-5 Play BMW edition which will be available around July this year. You can install it over the sat nav cradle with a click it has its own GPS + Apple car play or android. You can fully control it with the Wwheel and the screen contrast and visibility is better than the mobile phone. This is just my personal opinion. As long as one is happy and comfortable with what he/she has as navigation system nothing else matters. Safe ride.

Another great review. I have been using the quad lock for my motorcycle and mountain bikes for years and they are a great piece of kit. I haven’t used the charging version yet but I think I will now. Thanks for the video tutorial.

Great idea, Nick. Bri has a sat nav on his GSA but fitted a quad-lock a while back so he could use his phone too. Really helpful stuff ☺️👍

Nice one mate, I’ve got the Quadlock at the handlebar bracket and the Zumo XT on the upper bar. Incidentally, that blacking plate at the start pops off if you press the button on the side 🙂

Great Video, Nick. Excellent install instructions. One tip that will make it easier to remove the phone one-handed. Turn the wireless charging head 90degs, so the push tabs are sticking up and down.

With a little modification to the dampener, I mounted it to a pole clamp for easy on and off and changing between bikes.

Really good idea and interesting video mate. I’ve got a 2022 R1250RT and I’ve retro fitted my TomTom rider because the BMW connect app that runs the Sat Nav is shite. Safe riding mate.

I agree the Nav 6 leaves a lot to be desired. I have a Nav 5 with no issues. I use a Quad lock for my phone (for calls and music) but like the Nav because of the interaction with the whizwheel to get other info about the bike and the 5 is ok for navigation. Would love a Zumo XT but pockets aren't deep enough at the moment and would lose whizwheel. Just my preference...............

I made same rookie error buying the wireless charger! You don't need it as it has to be plugged in to work. Just got caught up in hype & forgot it needs power. Dont bother buying it & simply plug phone directly into socket to charge. Save ya $, fitting time & additional bulk.

I think BMW saw the threat, the connected ride cradle is the answer.

Picking up my GSA in a week and looking at options - I guess the only issue here is rain hitting the phone?

Is the wonder wheel functional in the bme connected ride app? A lot of different info on the Web with no real answers... some saying it works but not in the maps for zooming.

Based partially on your video, I just ordered Quad lock for my 2022 r1250gs and I phone 13 pro max .

Great video Nick. What ever you do don’t use iPhone on quad lock. In 2 rides your iPhone will be stuffed. Ride safe

Definitely great setup! Wondering how you're finding the vibration dampner on the roads. Have you tried riding without it also? Seems like maybe the vibration dampner might mean screens hard to read?

Thanks for the video. Apologies if you’ve answered this elsewhere but have you had any issues with damage to your phone from vibration since using the Quadlock? I thought I’d found the perfect solution but then saw some people report camera damage even with Quadlock.

Love this. Has anyone been able to plug it into the same power source that the OEM cradle was connected to? I'd prefer to not "waste" the USB plug.

What about brightness of the screen? Or reflection? Is that an issue, using your phone? Dedicated sat nav might be better, or is phone screen still easy to read in direct sunlight?

so you have used the normal usb port near the tft to charge you phone with a normal (quad lock) usb cable right? no problem if is raining? thank you!

Problem I’ve had with this is that I cannot find a DIN to lightning charger that lasts 5 mins! I’ve fitted 3 to my bike and they all stop working. Anyone recommend a good one?

Hi there. Does the weight of the phone cause the bracket to slip round on the bar over time?

Couldn't you use the old connector and cable to power your phone/something and keep the USB free as it looked like it was just 12v

No error encountered in the TFT display when you removed the navigation cradle?

why not unlock the GPS holder before disassemble the cover :-)

The new ones with the 360 mounts are so poorly engineered that the mounts are in the way of the Allen bolts so it’s impossible to tighten down without easily stripping the Allen bolt. Such a poor design for the most simplistic part of the entire system.
