Great video! Thank you so much! My daughter decided to get quails and she is responsible for them. We are moving them to a bigger house and the feeder and watered are great! Very creative!
This is one of my favorite videos because it helps me see how I could get started. Would it be possible to post links to the Amazon item you used for your water feeder? It will help me feel less intimidated when I’m shopping. Also, could you link to the Rubbermaid tote so I know which size as well as the “quail egg scissors?” In a future video i hope you show us how it is different to crack them. I really appreciate your sharing the videos!
Cecile I appreciate your questions and comments. I will see what I can do about posting links where to buy the supplies and provide measurements for the tote in the description/info section above
they're adorable and this is so genius, i hand build all my enclosures for my inverts and reptiles out of large storage bins and i already have one already that im not using that i would be able to easily convert to a home for quail, i really want to start raising these babies
What size tote did you use just curious because quails are so loving and very interesting birds and I want a couple of quails (not an actual couple but just like 4 or five)and also wondering what size hole you should use for the feeder
Is this for adult quail hens? What size tote is that and how many adult female quails can I honestly keep in a 50 gallon storage tote? I googled the info and it said 1 quail per 1 square feet cuz they are territorial.
They make cute pets too we have ours for food so eggs and meat but there good for compost too like the poop takes less time to break down then chickens
can I put quail in with my chickens or would the chickens hurt them? I would love them as pets. can they eat similar food as chickens and free range with them?
Your area per bird is wrong. The recommended minimum is 1 square foot per bird on wire and 4 square foot per bird on solid flooring, not 4-6 birds per square foot. As long as you keep it clean and the birds are happy it doesn't matter too much, but I like my birds to be able to have privacy from each other and be able to run a little.
L. Wren Thank you so much for your comment. I’ve always been curious about who is the authority in quail raising. Where did you get your information if I may ask?
I just worry that someone will buy a tub with a floor area of 4 square foot and think they can house 16 quails!! Also you have to remember that 4 square foot is 1ft x 4ft not 4ft x 4ft.so a container that is 1ft x 4 ft should only hold 2 quail, but a 4ft x 4ft container could hold 8 quail. I did a load of research when I first got quail and have anything important in my cage building ideas folder. There is a LOT of conflicting information/typos on quail care on the internet. The 4 foot rule is more for people who don't want to be doing a lot of cleaning, or have an aviary type set up. On nice fluffy absorbent sawdust 1-2ft per bird is probably adequate as long as you turn the bedding so it doesn't get damp areas. (and as long as it is a minimum 4 square foot)
L. Wren I agree that there’s lots of conflicting information out there. It is an important reminder for everyone to do their own research and think critically. I found what works for me and it seems like you are doing what works for you, too. I hope you’ll continue to share your experiences that others may learn and make conclusions that are sensible to them. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.😊
That's the good thing about quails, their cages can be as simple or elaborate as you want to make them! And as long as they have food water and a sand bath they're pretty happy :)
If you want them to lay all year round they need 14 Hrs of day light People in the winter Usually have a light on a timer to come on at 0400 Hrs The extra light works better in the morning
Don't put them in a tote having a perfectly good cage and it's 3 quail per foot take in consideration of the stuff you have in there that's space they can't use plus you should have made the breathing holes bigger get your information right before you post people going to have problems following your video I'm not putting you down just FYI I did like your video but some information is wrong
