For years, the governments of Earth desired the ability for teleportation. After countless experiments and failures, they succeeded in creating slipgates, devices that were used to transport cargo and people instantaneously. But the humans never counted on something coming through from the other side.
One of the slipgates opened a portal to another dimension. A dimension of monsters and demons. The mother of monsters, Shub-Niggurath, given the codename, "Quake," has taken control of a slipgate and is using it to send her demonic forces to Earth.
Quake's reality is one of magic, and each facet of magic is represented in four runes. The Rune of Earth magic, which holds the foundation of arcane power; The Rune of Black Magic, which contains the dark side of magic; The Rune of Hell Magic, the keeper of the most heinous secrets of the magical arts; and the Rune of Elder Magic, which bears a power beyond good and evil, a magic for too advanced for a simple mortal being to understand.
It is Quake's goal to find and unite the runes, enabling the beast to have a power so great, it could destroy Earth and all of humanity.
Facing such dire ends, the humans have enacted Operation Counterstrike, with the hope of using the lost slipgate to attack Quake's own dimension and destroy the mother of monsters.
