Legitimately good video. I think one of the issues with the decline of quake is the lack of good online youtube tutorials for new players to find, or any big personalities that play it.
regarding the personalities i have to say that you are totally wrong, Q consists of a bunch of ultra high skilled players that are quite talkative on social media
I think it's because it's a hard game to get into, whereas if you pickup CoD you can get online and on the second you're pretty much good to go and have all the tools required.
its the "I want to immediately OWN everyone in the game" mentality of newer players. I for myself had to fucking train the shit out of QL FFA maps for months before I even could strafe and participate in the battle.... I could go one for a bit why else...
Nice video ! Showed it to some friends that don't know Quake's history nor the rocket jumping techniques, which were actually discovered by pro's playing the game competitively (amazing that a game has so little movement restrictions that allow for that inventive to even happen in the first place).
Maybe you should do a superadvanced one to cover hop rockets and 2nd rocket saves if you're just under the edge of where you wanted to go, and probably gren+rocket jumps and pad jumps ;)
Hey I’m not sure if you would see this but I’m curious as to how you get your FPS on the right top corner? I’m learning this game and is there a way you could link something related to console commands as well? I thought that it would share some commands with the source engine but that isn’t really the case
Noob question, but I just started getting into quake and learning the movement. Are you holding forward the whole time you are doing the rocket jump off the wall? I know you said to hold strafe, but wanted to know if you are also supposed to hold forward. Thanks.
4:00 I don't think casual viewers will understand how difficult this is to pull off. I'm unusual; I just came to Quake Live, as an adult (over 30) and am learning this game. You have NO IDEA how difficult this stuff is until you try it. "\devmap campgrounds ca" in the console and practice the hell out of these jumps, you'll understand!
...and yes I do prefer Quake Live over Quake Champions. I play both; I prefer this game. Some things will be timeless, not unlike Star Craft I. As is with Quake Live/III
Yeah it's something you have to get a feel for... and that takes a lot of time. Definitely difficult, but something I don't even think about now, seems easy.
@Rocket Jump Ninja Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned, I am new, and although I've learned muscle memories in the past, it's disheartening to get completely raped all the time by the vets. Love your mouse reviews. And I'm in the majority of people who think your channel deserves more exposure. You or anyone else who wants to add me: I'm "RandomSissy" on Steam and Quake Live. Might change the username if I ever get "gud" enough to warrant it. Cheers
I’m more used to the rocket jumping of team fortress, which is the same as quake but as you’re shooting the rocket you have to tap ctrl Does that apply to quake as well?
+FPS Troller Different, and probably easier. To strafe jump, just hold down strafe before you jump. The problem is you'll keep hitting walls if you just strafe one direction. The trick? Just change the direction you're strafing each time before you hit jump. So strafe left + jump, strafe right + jump, strafe left + jump, strafe right + jump, repeat.
Question: in Arena shooters, what do you consider more important; more precise shooting (more headshots or critical damage shots) or more bullets landing on the target (Spray and pray but most are body shots)?
Hey now, hey. Hey. It's not inverted mouse movement. He's Australian. So something-something Coriolis Effect something-something means inverted mouse is the same as non-inverted in the Northern Hemisphere. Because science. Hell yeah. I scienced the crap out of that one. For-real tho: I've been unable to find any sort of explanation as to how or why some people prefer inverted. Some people think moving the mouse away from you, toward your monitor, should correspond to down. Other people - most people it would seem - think moving the mouse away from you, toward your monitor, should correspond to up. And what's really perplexing is - video game consoles. Camera movement being non-inverted or inverted might as well be random; it varies game-to-game. Eventually I just gave up and started playing _any_ 3d video game with a mouse and keyboard. Thank The Universe for emulators.
rocket jumping belongs in CA or rocket Arena. However these brackets require a lot less skills to play that normal deathmatch tdm or duel. You basically take no self damage in the aforementioned mods. And because of this, most players opt for the easy solution. Can't see the opponent? No problem, just spam rocket on your self in case he managed to sneak up above or behind you. Problem solved. What doesn't make so much sense is that your able to get away with blowing your self up and having only the opponent take damage from that. It provides you with a easy way to defend your self. The bracket also requires a lot less skills in other areas. You don't have to time anything. Weapons such as railgun is supposed to be a weapon that is some what difficult to get. Think Campgrounds (dm6) here. The weapon is very powerful and the drawback is it's location and availability. In Normal TDM, every weapon has a 30 second respawn time as well. Allowing everyone running around with railgun all the time takes a lot away from the game and how it's meant to be played. Then theres the fact that you don't have to time anything. You just point and shoot. A very mindless game really. I can see why so many people opt to play that instead of normal DM. But it doesn't take nearly as much skills.
Hey,a tutorial for Quake Live would be nice. After seeing your videos, I downloaded the game but have zero clue what to do in it. I'm good at FPS games, just don't get the concept of this one.
+TishoBG | Battlefield 4 made a tutorial for Clan Arena game mode because it's what we play most, see if this helps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0Tg9zjbwWTk.html
You know what would be a fun 1v1 format? Rocket vs Rail or Lightning. Rocket player can't damage their opponent, and the Rocket player's objective is to survive. Perhaps after a few minutes they would switch sides, the one with most kills/frags wins. Your opinions?
I don't know but, you can Search 'Zyism' on SoundCloud. You can find his song that played on his videos. *English is not my native language, sorry for grammar mistake.
@@RocketJumpNinja Do I need a specific mouse or does the mouse have to fulfill some minimum specs? Im playing at the moment with a standard office mouse, not a gaming mouse.
@@RocketJumpNinja Are you still playing q3? Can you share your mouse settings? Any acceleration setting on Windows? What is your sensitivity setting in the game?
+Lauri Markkula Yeah go for it. There's another video on here where I explain some basics of Clan Arena, you can link that too if you like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0Tg9zjbwWTk.html
Lauri Markkula I still can't really do them, but I've hardly played at all lately. Kinda got burned out because of all the time I was throwing at it and being too hard on myself. I kinda realised that when I made an alias and played on the
Even the relatively low elo on Quake (+- 1200-1300) are still regular people who have more than 5000h on the game. So necessarily for a newcomer, it's complicated. Visual configuration (picmip and other features) and framerate (250 FPS max) is so important on this game. Have sure you are in good conditions to. Game and mouse reactivity is so better with good framerate. (no matter how often the display refreshes)
1337 quake is very fun game, but ppl who have played this for a long time is insanly good.. it is not like joining a match of cod or Battlefield =p ppl who play this game on a basis is sick.. just play and play and u become on of those ppl=^)
It works, but you lose health... Quake Live is a good way to practice though, especially while the rocket has a delay in Quake Champions (it will be fixed later). I'll do tutorials on it in Quake Champions when possible.
Yeah it does, a bit harder to do with the uneven terrain though. I made a video for QC rocket jumping too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sE8_LKNaxl8.html
+Brandon Key In PQL mode you can do that air control stuff, in normal Quake you strafe jump, which doubles your speed. Can get over triple speed with rocket jumping, of course.
+Rocket Jump Ninja No, he straight up went through a wall and camped there while shooting rockets at people. He said it was a glitch with bhopping + rocket jumping. Like he was inside the wall.
Rocket Jump Ninja (Gamer Reviews) I spent a while trying it. Can't do it at all, still. Can't play at all, in fact. It would have been nice to discover the game at the start. It's no fun just being there to feed the ego of guys who have been playing for 10 years
+Ash Scott It takes a couple of months to really adjust to a new key (if you're used to a different config), so it's not something you can just change and expect to play well. Sounds like you're taking the game too seriously ... when I first joined Quake (back in November 1998) most of the players were established and destroyed me. Sure they hadn't been playing 10 years, but the lowest ping I could get was 350 while they had between 70 and 200. It was horrible. But I didn't care. I'd never played a game that was just so awesome before, so I stuck with it, and now I ping between 15 and 50 depending on the servers and fear no player. As for egos ... if someone is using Quake for self esteem, they're pretty much saying "I spent way too many years getting good at something that adds no value to my life other than entertainment". And that means it's not something to be proud of, those guys are loser ... but if it's for fun, then that's great!
Rocket Jump Ninja (Gamer Reviews) Oh, I don't mean I changed any keys. Just that I can't get the sideways rocket jumps down at all. Most of the people who started playing the same time I did, can do that kind of thing way better than me, but they can't aim, and I find them easy prey when I see them. I don't know if they spent a lot of time practicing it, or if it comes naturally to most people. But I get no satisfaction from the game if I'm not helping my team to win, or getting more frags than deaths or whatever. I can't just play for fun and expect to have fun. No matter what gametype you play, the whole object of the game is to kill as many people as possible and do as much damage as possible. It's no fun at all when you realise the best thing you can do for your teams chances of victory is to spectate or disconnect. I don't want to farm noobs, and I don't mind getting smacked down playing against really good players. What's depressing is just knowing that on most servers, I'm going to be below average. That's gloomy.
+Ash Scott yeah it's the competitive nature. I don't enjoy the game when it's really unbalanced. I like a challenge, but if it's to the point I have to take on 3 every round, then I'll usually try to get them to mix the teams up more. Otherwise, I have fun just cruising around, hitting crazy shots and doing weapon combos. Maybe try to focus on different things for enjoyment? I don't think movement comes naturally to anyone. Before this I was grappling around in Quake 2 CTF. Got to Quake 3, no grapple, learned to rocket jump instead. It's just years and years of practice. I remember when I was first doing it people were like "omg just stop", because I hit a wall on every single jump. But again, stuck with it, now people ask me to show them how. In other words ... don't give up. Your challenge right now is to find a way to enjoy games instead of relying on empty victories (they mean nothing, remember).
+Rocket Jump Ninja Hmm... I'm a complete noob to the genre of arena shooters. Any suggestions? What game should I get? What server should I play on? etc.
Isaiah Haddock Most games have in game server browsers, just find the one with the lowest ping that has players on it. For starting out, most games are quite hard, because you have people who started out in Quake moving on to other games, and they bring a lot of skill with them. It doesn't take too long to learn a game once you have your configuration and co-ordination set. If you want the best FPS though, it's Quake Live, $10 on Steam I think. But if you want the most played FPS, it's CS:GO (Counter Strike).
+Robbiee It is similar, because CS was originally built on a Quake engine (Quake came first), so even when CS moved on to new engines, they kept the movement style.
So you need to flick very fast mouse and a Strafe RGB to rocket jump in quake? Nope, way too much. And I still don't understand why aren't you in FaceIt or the other Quake tournaments?
+Racermario (RacerMario) I use a Corsair K95 RGB, but I was able to play just fine on any keyboard, don't need it. And you can flick slowly if you want to, you just need to get the angles right. I prefer to flick fast so I can get my aim back where it needs to be. I live in Australia and duel bores me to tears, that's why you won't see me in any Quake tournaments. I am all about the rocket jumping in Clan Arena.
+Racermario (RacerMario) Yeah maybe, but that's a lot of time invested for very little gain. I actually have more fun reviewing mice these days! Getting old.
