Final part of the moulding pair of videos. In this episode we use the moulds from video 38 and lay-up a glassfibre cowl for my 1/4 scale radio controlled DHC1 Chipmunk.
I am enjoying your build immensely. One thing you might like to know is that polyester resin and P.38 are essentially the same stuff. You can take a blob of P.38 and thin it out with resin until you have someting that you can pour or brush on stuff (gel coat?). Then you add the harderer (same one for both products) and the mixture goes off in about 20 to 30 minutes. I have used this successfully to make hard-points in wings where I forgot to put hardwood while building.
It's so satisfying when you do all the work to make a plug, then the mold, then lay up the glass for the cowl and it comes out of the mold looking great! Job well done!
Thank you, it makes me very happy to have help other modellers and encorage them to have a go at this wonderful hobby and tackle some ambitous projects
Watching this has given me the confidence to make a fiberglass cowl for my D Bryant Lysander. Maybe even have a go at fiber glassing the spats as well! Thanks very much for a super informative set of videos.
I think i say the weight of the cloth used, and the number of layers in the video. If not let me know, i cannot remember but 4 or 6 layers of 48gsm cloth rings bells
