Many fans hated this song and the album, Hot Space, when it came out in 1982 due to the funk, soul sounds. I love it!

Hot Space was not well appreciate at the time but I know a lot of people now who actually like it pretty much. Freddie in an interview told that the album didn't work out well but was sure that after years it would gain some esteem. Freddie's voice in this one is unbelievable, sexy and John as always incredible.

One of my favorites! I love that Freddie sings this whole song only with his falsetto voice. So cool! The things Freddie could do with his voice can't be overstated. (Check out Exercises In Free Love). Even when other great artists covered his songs, it usually took more than one voice. I think this is one of those songs that just ages really well. Love your kitty!

Freddie sang this all in falsetto. He had a four octave range, going effortlessly through all registers. Live he usually set the key a half note lower in the songs so it wouldn't hurt his voice so much doing concert after concert. Nevertheless he had to deal with nodes on his vocal cords from time to time so that his voice was mostly shot at the end of the tours and he needed much more help from Roger in the higher register.

Roger was great at knowing when to help Freddie out. When you do get round to doing Live Aid, bear in mind that Freddie had laryngitis and his doctor had told him he shouldn’t perform. Turned out to be the best live performance everrrrrr 😊. ❤️Freddie❤️

Freddie only lowered 3 songs, he didn't just lower every song. These songs can take some effort to sing night after night. Even Adam Lambert with his perfect technique is lowering a lot of the songs these days.

Adorable cat. When I was discovering the Queen catalogue I kept sending things to my daughter (she’s 30) because I was just so amazed. When I came across this I wasn’t too sure of how I felt about it so I sent it to her and said do you like it? She said, “No I don’t like it, I LOVE it”. Haha! I have grown to love it too. I just wasn’t expecting that. His range is just astounding.

One of my favorite songs from the Hot Space album. What a beautiful cat, but you did not say the name! Freddie loved cats and had a favorite cat named Delilah, and he wrote her a song, which is in the Innuendo album and is called "Delilah" a nice and a bit funny song, only Freddie.

That is one EXCELLENT cat! Thank you. I love the songs on this album - maybe it was just too progressive in '82! While I can understand how fans get stuck with 'what they expect & want', it makes me wonder if the rift the band allowed to develop between them over supporting John's vision (which seems petty & ego driven and not like the Brian we think we all love), didn't somehow subliminally affect public opinion, and John's refusal to continue after Fred was gone... Also makes me wonder if Bowie's decision to remove him from this track & Under Pressure was related to this rift... Great reaction! BEST #queenreaction is right here!

I think this album did create a rift between Brian and John. After Freddie's death John didn't have anyone to support him. Therefore, I think he was outvoted, he didn't just retire one day, his ideas was simply overruled by Brian and Roger. But this happens in bands. Queen didn't air their dirty laundry much in public as some other bands.

Aww loved seeing your kitty! Sure Freddie would've loved that, too. He was absolutely obsessed with cats. They were his children and he had many of them throughout the years. Anyways, love Cool Cat. The Hot Space album in general is so underrated. It was so hated in its time but I've only been impressed. Should it have been released a few years earlier or later, I think it would've gone down much better.

@@HAP3SPEAKZ If you find this surprising, you will be absolutely SHOCKED when you hear "Exercises in Free Love" -- check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZlUxnEQ-jtc.html - BTW, he wrote this for his Spanish opera idol - Montserrat Caballe - but he sang it himself to her -- (she's a soprano) - he was apparently very nervous to meet her and make the offer, but they hit it off big-time and were life-long friends - she collaborated on "Barcelona" opera with him - meant to be performed at the Olympics - but he didn't last that long.. so there are some video compilations and recordings that were played anyway -- we unfortunately also lost "Montsy" this past year - but one would like to think that if there is an afterlife, they are stunning the multitudes in "heaven" - My favorite from the opera is "How Can I go On" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--F8EKGyL-j4.html it's funny to me to see that Montserrat is so eager and entranced, she is actually lip-synching to Freddie - what a pair!

OMG! Freddies voice. It doesn't get much better. Reminds me a little of Michael Jackson. They were friends and Queen was a big influence on Michael. I personally love Hot Space but Roger and Brian wasn't completely on board with it because they felt it was a little too much like pop dance music and not rock and roll enough. John and Freddie were more on the same page with it. I think they just worried that Queen fans wouldn't accept it and it wasn't one of their most commercial successes but Freddie like to take chances and do something different. They were, i think, ahead of their time a bit and i think they created some great songs on that album. Maybe you could react to some of them? Body Language, Back chat, Calling all girls, Las Palabras De Amor (the words of love), Dancer, Life is real (a song for John Lennon), are all great songs. speaking of Michael Jackson, he and Freddie did a few songs together, none were totally complete because of their other obligations but there are two that have versions out there you can listen too. One is called There must be more to Life then this, and State of Shock and Victory. You should really react to There must be More to life then this, it is so beautiful and Michael and Freddie together is amazing. There is a version of State of shock out there with what Freddie and Michael had finished before they stopped working on it but it doesn't sound bad. The finished version was done with Mic Jagger, replacing Freddie, for Michael's album. So, again, thank you for such an awesome reaction and your cat is really cute too.

Ah the album a few Queen fans don't like but it gave us Las Palabras De Amour & Under Pressure. I recommend listening to Staying Power from the Hot Space album live at Milton Keynes Bowl 1982. This was part of Channel 4s The Tube but filmed by Tyne Tees Television & my friend was one of the camera men!

Hot Space was NOT a popular album with the fans OR the remainder of the group, who were railroaded into it by Freddie during the time when he was practically living in the 'clubs' and was obsessed with the music. Las Parablas was also very controversial at that time, as we were at war with the Falklands. Check out Dancer by Brian, which managed to crowbar in a bit of guitar for the fans.

Can you believe that some people have actually listed this song as the worst Queen song? This song is a vibe. Brian and Roger also hated this song, that is why they didn't play on the song. David Bowie originally did some back-up vocals on the song. But he wasn't satisfied with it, it had to be removed just as the album was ready for release, which caused some disagreement. Now, you are starting to see how Freddie could really modify his voice to suit every genre of music. A cool performance from this same album is Staying Power live at the Bowl 1982, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XrGhMeqR1lI.html. (This is one song were John actually played guitar live, instead of bass).

I knew it this is the next one 😹😹😹. Maybe some fans of queen doesn’t like disco songs that’s why Hot Space album back then is unpopular but I definitely love this song it’s easy to listen to and I can just relax listening to it. I actually have this on my playlist. The members of the band really have different tastes. I can say that this is a John Deacon art and Freddie’s voice is the icing of the cake. What a nice cat BTW. 😊

I think a lot of people were told that this was a disco album. But it is not disco, Queen never did disco. This was simply soul, funk and R'nB. There is some new wave and even one hard rock song on Hot Space.

**Zenobia** I see, thanks for the correction. I only heard two tracks from it since I plan to listen to their every album in chronological order. I have only finished listening up to their Jazz album (and it’s not even jazz😂). And I have read a lot of comments from fans saying Hot Space is their worst album and I think the reason why some (including me 😅) mistakenly labeled it as disco songs because the sounds they used are the type you usually hear in bars (I think I heard this from a documentary where they spoke about the inspiration how the album came to be).

That line, "Tapping on the toe with a new hat" always puts me in mind of Fred Astaire dancing, where he does that thing with his top hat.

Yes it is from Hot Space, probably Michael Jackson's favorite Queen Album. Hot Space was a Huge huge inspiration for Michael and his Thriller album (and of course everything after that in his Career). Both the whole Hot Space Album could be sung by Michael Jackson just as the whole Thriller album could be easy to imagine Freddie singing it, if you get what I'm saying. 2:52 oh that makes even more sense with Michael now (since he worked in Motown as a kid and stuff). And yea Freddie loved Motown too. I never heard this song, Cool how Freddie sings the whole song in Head Voice. 5:45 oh wow awesome. Roger did the same in some of his written songs. For example Tenement Funster (which is instantly connected with Flick of the Wrist and Lily of the Valley by Queen of course) Tenement Funster or I wanna testify for example, Roger plays every instrument on it and also is lead singing AND Doing background Vocals. So they all really can be solo artist themselves but It's a Miracle that they chose to be together. Great Reaction, pretty interesting and if you want another COMPLETELY Different feel with Freddie's Voice then react to *_Freddie Mercury - The Great Pretender (Official Video Remastered)_* it's a Solo song by Freddie (but still Roger is in the Music Video) BUT I don't really know if you want to react to it yet because the Video has MANY references to Queen and stuff that you haven't seen yet, you can do that reaction much later if you want to of course. Oh and btw the song ''the Great Pretender'' from Freddie's Solo album Is a COVER from a band I guess Called The Platters. The Great Pretender was by the Platters in 1955 in the Mercury Records (what a coincidence right?). So '' _Freddie Mercury - The Great Pretender (Official Video Remastered)_ '' is a Cover song. People say (me too), Covers can't be better than the originals but the only ones that could prove me wrong were Michael Jackson with ''Come Together'' by The Beatles and Freddie Mercury with ''The Great Pretender'' by The Platters.

As I explore more Queen songs (which I will be... because there are fantastic!!!) - I am sure there will be more surprises. Also I want to really see how MJ might have been influenced by this album. Cheers Fella, 100% Funky Queen. I went through a period where I was addicted to this album. There are some great tracks on it, "Body language" & "Las Palabras de Amor" but to name a couple..................You already know how much of huge Queen fan I am but I'm gonna throw a curve ball in for you to listen to "Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty". The Sax is pure sex.

Classic. I always thought, this would seamlessly go through as a Smokey Robinson song. Only cooler. And this is a cool cat of yours, indeed. Lovely 😊 Queen‘s other cat song, Delilah, named after Freddie‘s favourite cat, is considered by many as a bit silly, with those guitar miouws. The band did that song as a favour for Freddie. I don‘t think it‘s bad, but also not that important, either.

Sorry if someone suggested this already, but I think you'd enjoy Queen's "The Show Must Go On". When you listen to the lyrics, realize this man was at the end of his life, and he knew it. His body gave up on him, this song proves his voice did not.

And Yes, this song is off the Hot Space album, which for some reason was their least successful, maybe because it has more of a disco vibe. But it is the album that produced Under Pressure so it can’t be bad! (Check it out at Wembley, Freddie is fantastic with his crowd conducting. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OVzvoPP6M50.html ). It also has Life is Real (song for Lennon) a tribute to John Lennon, and one of my favourites, Action This Day. The live one at the Bowl is awesome! It’s all about that bass! Deacy’s bass gives me life. I enjoyed your reaction, I could tell you were really into it.

Another John Deacon song he wrote A lot of their songs a whole bunch but this was taking things in a whole other direction musically and both Roger and Brian did not like it but Freddy heard John play it and he loved it it’s exactly what he wanted at that time! I think a lot of the songs from this particular album were written by just Freddy or collaborated with John again Brian and Roger did not like the direction this album went!

Yeah Freddie killed the vocals, but John Deacon wrote this as well as Another One Bites the Dust. John was a fan of Motown and he could always depend on Freddie to give it a Thousand percent on vocals. I believe Brian and Roger's disdain for this song was another telling factor in his leaving the band after Freddie's death. I believe he felt he didn't have a musical soulmate in the surviving members. Great song. 40 yrs later with no radio station b.s. to get in the way. Producers my age who remember this great music using it for commercials. I wonder if Brian an Roger will accept any Royalties from the song they wanted nothing to do with.
