I have shown a number of aspects of the making of my guitars on this channel, but I thought it would be fun to listen to some of the finished guitars for a change. I would suggest hooking up to some decent speakers or headphones for this one to get the best sound reproduction. I recently acquired a digital recorder, allowing me to more fully capture the in person sound of my instruments and so I sat down recently to record a sampling of the guitars that are currently available in my shop. I recorded about 20 minutes on each guitar and pared that down to present the more coherent musical ideas. I am not a professional musician (or audio engineer), and I am largely making things up as I go along here music wise, but I think these recordings are pretty reasonable representations of each guitar. If you showed up at my shop wanting to listen to the guitars this is something like what you would get from me and hopefully close to how they would sound to you as you played them. First up is the black walnut rb-0 the construction of which is featured in many videos on this channel. Next is a maple and engelmann spruce rb-00, possibly the flashiest guitar I have made to date and a size that I find right in the sonic sweet spot between the punch and immediacy of a smaller guitar an the deep fullness of a large body guitar. Last up is a Peruvian walnut size 0 in a martin style body shape. Not much smaller across than the rb-0, but the shape makes the sound board of the lower bout a much smaller area. I think this makes it a lot punchier in the attack, but perhaps a bit less rich. I also feel like that martin shape makes it a bit more nasal for lack of a better word.
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy this sonic supplement to watching the guitars go together! If you like this video please hit the like button and consider subscribing to my channel. You can find these guitars (and quality photos of said guitars) up for sale on my website, www.queencityguitars.com . I will be back soon with more guitar construction related videos!
