A great video containing some interesting points. As I've said before I'm a 70s Queen fan but still love all their albums including Flash Gordon. Here's my ranking for today: 1 Queen II - My favourite album of all time! 2 Sheer Heart Attack - A very close second 3 A Night At The Opera - A great journey with a wicked sense of humour 4 A Day At The Races - Great from start to finish 5 News Of The World - My go-to Queen album if I'm in a rock mood 6 Jazz - Love this album but love the ones above more 7 Innuendo - A return to the seventies sound but too many not-so-brilliant songs 8 Queen - Great start 9 The Game - Singles great other tracks, apart from Dragon Attack, Rock It and Sail Away Sweet Sister, so-so 10 The Works - Read the same as The Game but do love Keep Passing The Open Windows and Is This The World We Created? - wish it had the single version of I Want To Break Free on it too 11 A Kind of Magic - Same as The Game and The Works but only really love Princes of the Universe after the singles 12 The Miracle - was disappointed with this album when it was released but have grown to love it - Was It All Worth It is in my top ten Queen songs 13 Hot Space - Have to be in the mood to listen to this but do enjoy Dancer, Put Out The Fire and of course Under Pressure, another Top 10 track 14 Made In Heaven - I had heard too much of this album before its release and 4 songs do not a great album make 15 Flash Gordon - Enjoy this album but have to be in the mood Shane xxx

It's a bit of a tired cliche, but I the adage that "the old stuff was their best" most certainly applies to Queen's discography. Queen II, for me, is the stand alone greatest album with Queen I and Sheer Heart Attack next. I get what you're saying about A Night at the Opera but in no universie is it worse than the 80s stuff. News Of The World is their weakest 70s offering. I struggle with any of the output between Hot Space and The Mircale. Outside of the singles, it's a sea of cringy fillers. An inexplicable return to form with Innuendo. Not sure how anyone can not have Made in Heaven in last place. It's only the harrowing context of its development that gives it any weight. The songs themselves are, for the most part, forgetable. A collection of slow power ballads. None of them are played on rock radio anymore. Hats off to you though - good logical arguements for the list. Everyone sees something different! 1 Queen II 2 Sheer Heart Attack 3 Queen 4 A Night At The Opera 5 Jazz 6 A Day At The Races 7 The Game 8 Innuendo 9 News Of The World 10 A Kind of Magic 11 The Miracle 12 The Works 13 Hot Space \/ \/ \/ 15 Made In Heaven Seems unreasonable to include Flash Gordon

Man, I don't think I have ever met somebody with such a radically different view on the quality and ranking of these albums. I would definitely rate Night at The Opera and Queen II as their best. (I'm In Love With My Car and 39 are fucking brilliant). Anything after The Game I would consider sub-par, with the exception of Innuendo. The first 8 are all masterpieces, in my opinion. Having said that, I respect your opinion and I'm glad that you find joy in a long gone band that meant so much to me as a child of the 70s and 80s.

You don’t need to justify anything. It’s an absolute masterpiece. Easily one of their very best, it is actually their best I feel. I was actually offended by this so much I stopped it and yes The Game is great too. 100 times better than the boring Made In Heaven which is a fake album. Freddie would be rolling in his grave as The Game was his favourite Queen album

Interesting list. You’re the only person who’s done an album ranking that has Queen II lower than me. But thanks for showing love to Jazz. It’s such a fun underrated album! My ranking of Jazz is just a under yours at 4.

The 70's is Queen's best era, and its not even close really. Though The Works, The Game, and Innuendo are close to coming to that quality. 1. News of the World - Every member gets a chance to shine and all of the songs are phenomenal, even if its a bit "stripped-back" in sound. 2. A Night at the Opera - A musical journey that deserves the massive praise it gets, a mix of unique instruments rarely heard in rock, brilliant songwriting and chord progressions. 3. Sheer Heart Attack - Same as above. 4. Queen II - Perfection, the idea of Side White and Black is genius and the lyricism and compositions are perfect. 5. A Day at the Races/Innuendo (Tied) - I can't pick which I love more. 6. Queen - Fantastic starting point, it gave a taste of what was to come while having quite a few great songs. Though its not top 5 because it sounds more like any other 70s rock band than Queen. 7. The Game - BRILLIANT singles, and quite a few great deep cuts but also a couple of bad songs. 8. The Works - Same as The Game 9. Jazz - A pretty good album overall, side 1 is near perfect, side 2 is very spotty but the production also really brings this album down 10. The Miracle - Plain good album but a bit uneven in the flow, plus a lot of bad songs in the mix 11. A Kind of Magic - This album is bad, lots of reused lyrics and song themes that were already on previous songs on the album, inconsistent 12. Hot Space - Really a bad album that deserves the contempt, but it does have a few good songs such as "Under Pressure", "Put Out The Fire", and "Staying Power". 13. Made In Heaven - The lack of Freddie is felt and he added that operatic and classical touch that is lost, other versions of songs on this sound way better in Freddie's solo album. 14. Flash Gordon - Its so boring I can't even sit through the whole thing.

This is very eloquently put together, and you ooze charisma, man. Also a huge Queen fan and i absolutely loved listening you talk about their legacy. Great stuff, my man. Also, the tiny solo from Backchat is one of my favourite Brian solos, and I do have a soft spot for Hot Space. 😂

Great list!!! I definitely agree that Freddie's vocals throughout the Jazz album are sort of different than the others. I highly agree that Queens debut is a very strong debut that is so very unique. I do love Jesus though ( maybe it's my southern Baptist Christian background that makes me laugh with delight at that song and love it so much). Also, being from America I have always loved I want to break free but never saw the music video for it until much later in years because it was banned in the U.S. Great analysis of the great band Queen❤

Great list! Being more of a metal guy I've always loved progressive and heavy stuff from rock bands over their mainstream-oriented songs. Therefore, my all time favourite Queen album is Queen II. I am certain it's difficult to digest for a lot of people, being a concept album with countless tempo changes. It also features the best vocals by Frieddie, in my opinion, being recorded before he got nodules in '75. I wish they kept their style for longer.

Kind of an unconventional take on the catalogue, which is refreshing. Personally I love Hot Space a lot but it’s not for everyone I guess, so I understand it’s low rating. A Day At The Races is wildly underrated in general. Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack are among my favorite albums of all time.

Flash Gordon always gets such a bad rap! Sure its a soundtrack but i love how Queen staged it like a radio play. Love the instrumental pieces on this - In The Space Capsule is incredible, The Kiss, the kick ass Battle Theme is pure fire, Flash Theme and The Hero, all superb. I love this album almost as much as Queen II which is my #1.

What a strange list. Flash at the very end is ok, but the next one would probably be Sheer Heart Attack, the Game is one of the best. Of course it has to do with the fact that I discovered Queen the time the Game was released, but the only song on this record I didn't like first was Another one bites the dust, which is too much of a Rap song. But as a Rap song, it is probably the best out there.

Don't call them "legacy artists". Show some respect.
@saxonshydrosphere5638
@saxonshydrosphere5638 10 месяцев назад
Is it not respectful to imply they've left a legacy?
@SpaceCattttt
@SpaceCattttt 10 месяцев назад
@@saxonshydrosphere5638 You'd think so, but what it actually does is segregate them from the present. By calling them "legacy artists" people immediately think "old artists". Even if they're still around, they get the old label put on them. Old, as in not current. Not fashionable. Not trendy. And for many......not good. Don't you think artists want to feel part of whatever's going on now? Well, they can never be "now" if you Millennials keep coming up with ways to remind everyone that they're old.
@993designs
@993designs 10 месяцев назад
@@SpaceCattttt would you not say a band who haven’t recorded any new material for over 30 years qualify as an “old” band? There are literally whole generations now that Queen have never released a new album to! Legacy artists are simply those who are touring their older material whilst not releasing new material. Queen will always be fashionable, trendy, however you want to put it. In the same ways that other bands people call legacy artists have massive hits that still connect with todays generations, I don’t think anyone would say that Aerosmith, Whitesnake or Genesis are bad just because they were/are seen as a legacy artists. As much as Queen are still touring and they’re incredible, I’ve seen them three times with Adam Lambert each one being absolutely awesome, the original members surely won’t be playing the amount of shows they are now if any in the next 5 or 10 years. They’re nearing the end of their careers and that can’t be denied. Bands like Queen will always connect with new generations because the music is so iconic, making them present, but that’s due to their legacy, not anything new they’ve released. It’s down to their legacy that they’re still part of “whats going on now”. So by definition, legacy artists.
@SpaceCattttt
@SpaceCattttt 10 месяцев назад
@@993designs Why not call them "fossil artists"? Great music is timeless. There's no need to put a label on it. Queen are Queen. They may have a greater "legacy" than most bands today will leave behind, but even today's crappy bands will leave a shitty legacy behind, so in effect, they, too, will be legacy artists. In fact, ALL artists will be legacy artists, whether they want it or not. So you see, there's no reason to call anyone a legacy artist. It doesn't single them out as especially important and noteworthy. But it does let everyone know that they're old. And not timeless.
@993designs
@993designs 10 месяцев назад
@@SpaceCattttt one, fossil artist states they’ve been dead and buried for years which they clearly haven’t, given we’re still talking about them so asking why not call them that is a nonsense. Two, not every band can become a legacy artist because they won’t have the catalogue or fan base deep enough into their career to keep selling out arenas after not releasing an album for 30 years. So yes, every band has a legacy, no not every band can be credited as having a big enough one to be a legacy artist. To reach legacy artist status you have to have timeless music or you wouldn’t sell the tickets on later tours. Simple as that. Three, Queen are old! They won’t be around much longer. People get older, it’s how time works. They’re not all fresh faced 20 year olds looking to take on the world anymore. They’re older men, who are sharing their music with the world whilst they still have the ability to do so. You cannot deny they are old, it’s why I’d stress to people to go and see Queen now whilst they still can because they won’t be around for much longer as a touring entity. It’s not disrespectful to point out someone is getting older, or if a band’s discography is old, especially when it is. The term Legacy artists does single a band out as noteworthy because they’ve maintained their fame and relevancy for years upon years. Enough to still sell out arenas today without a need to release a new album to put them back in the mainstream. Timeless music makes legacy artists.
