Some bands can't come close to replicating their studio versions, but Queensryche belies that theory. One of the best rock bands, ever, with the incomparable Geoff Tate and his theatrical voice.
Geoff’s voice is INCREDIBLE! His voice is what first attracted me to Queensryche! It is totally unique compared to other lead singers and is full of passion! I wish the band didn’t have a falling out! Geoff’s back-up band and Queensryche without Geoff both PALE IN COMPARISON!!!
@@KilroyWasHere83Last 11 years my arse. Nobody will remember the shite that’s the Queensryche in name only have done. The music sounds nothing like what it was when Chris and Geoff were there. Tbat singer Todd has not a single original melody in his brain. It’s absolutely dreadful. They make a living playing talented people’s music.
People hating on the vocals are a joke do you not realise that as you get older your vocal chords get weaker and you wont be able to hit certain notes as often so great singers pick their spots to do them as they say time catches all of us
Idiotic haters claim that Geoff lost his voice 20 years ago, but this was 10 years ago and he sounded really good. Of course at 52 (his age in this performance) he doesn't have the same range and power behind every note at he did at 25 or even at 35, but he still is a master vocalist with incredible tone, dynamics, and control.
Have you heard his voice on the recent tour(Rage For Order and Empire)? His voice sounds amazing! If anything, his voice is growing much stronger these days
Geoff hasn’t lost his voice he is the one and only voice of Queensryche, I have heard he had a heart surgery at one point he sounds great for a singer that has been around since the 80s and for a singer his age
He may have stopped practicing for a while. I would have if my life's work had been ripped away from me by those I thought were friends. Seems like he's gotten back into proper technique lately. I've noticed he's sounding pretty solid lately.
Eddie Jackson is such a beast on bass, the groove he lays down for Ryche songs is a big part of their sound, IMO anyways.. used to see him driving his porsche in ballard time to time, golden gardens.. happy hour.. good times in the day.. hope everyone is well!!!
a lot of people keep saying how Geoffs voice has gone down hill. Dont know bout anyone else, but I think he still sounds great. Being a rock vocalist myself, being on the road is a day to day thing when i comes to the voice. Some nights I amazed myself by how effortless it was, other nights couldn't hit anything. So stop dissin Geoff. You get up on stage and do better....yeah, thats what i thought!
I think most of it has to do with the fact that the guitars are de-tuned so much that the music simply doesn't sound like Queensryche; that, and Tate has been a colossal jack-ass for years.
Saw Geoff Tate perform this two weeks ago here in Portland, Oct 2019 and he was sounding as good as ever at age 60. Perhaps not quite the full range of say 1988, but still fantastic. After viewing this saw a performance of same song with Todd La Torre, a great guy, drummer, and vocalist, but right after watching this, in comparison, that performance is relatively inferior. Tate has total control. \''/
For the people who are bad mouthing Geoff Tate, my question is, how can you be a real fan of Queensryche and dislike this man so much. For 25+ years he was the voice of QR, he wrote the majority of the lyrics for the band. Isn't he with Chris DeGarmo the main reason QR had the success they did. I understand shit happens, things change, people want different things. Also, most lead singers are control freaks (lead singer disease) lot's of examples, Axl Rose, Scott Weiland, Steven Tyler, David Lee Roth, Sebastian Bach etc. I guess it's easy to develop an over inflated ego. I will always admire & respect Geoff Tate for everything he has done and the talent that he has, ♥ the voice, the music ♫.
***** Those 25 years would include Empire and Promised Land..... I guess if you've hated most of what they've done in those 25 years, maybe you're not a fan. Wouldn't make sense to be a fan of something you hate.
I’ll answer that. 1. All the crap music he force fed us under the QR name for so many years. 2. His horrible live performances. 3. His refusal to play deep cuts from the early records and openly bad mouthing metal as a genre of music. 4. Most importantly. - violence towards his band mates. Publicly spitting on Scott. His awful behavior towards audiences in 2012-13. His alcoholic, belligerent attitude.
In my opinion, this is the BEST rendition of the song performed LIVE, to date. Those chugging chords and the vocals and thr impeccable drumming.... ahhhh---> Perfecto!
Fact is that Geoff has the carte de blanche and has established himself as one of the most gifted artistic singers of all time. He has nothing to prove and doesn't need to repeticiously sing each and every song 100% accurate time and time again just to avoid negative criticism. This is music which is a performance and not a test! Praise him for who he is and not what you expect him to be which is inhuman. Live music is abstract art and is more about expression than technical perfection imo
Or you could accept the fact that he can’t sing as good as he used to. The performance wasn’t a disaster -compared to lots of others. But you can tell he was changing the melody to avoid certain notes. That and he was “behind” on some of the phrases.
This was 10 years ago, his voice has gone down quite a bit. Part of the reason they had tension was Geoff was losing creativity, and struggling to hit original vocal range on songs. Mix that with ego=new. younger singer that could hit every note, exhale of breath dead on!
I wish the entire original lineup could get their $h*t together and do an original tour, these players while excellent are just not the same at Geoff with the original band. What a shame egos and money Fff everything up.
I love Queensryche. I am a old rocker from the 80's. I particularly love this live video, because it shows Geoff Tate's real talent. His voice is amazing!!!! He's real and has a great smile.!!!!
The new guy is jsut a karaoke replacement, though. They should've gone for something different rather than a welfare version of the original. That being said, Tate has been a welfare version of his original self for a while as well.
Big bands from the 80's 90's need to take note if they are to reformed now or whenever, Nail your guitar parts like this performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just compering the voices of Geoff Tate and New singer of a Tribute sorry have to call it that way coz Geoff Tate IS the Queensryche and NOBODY can REPLACE it.Dinamics of Tates voice is incomparable. And have to agree with comment down below.(For the people who are bad mouthing Geoff Tate, my question is, how can you be a real fan of Queensryche and dislike this man so much. For 25+ years he was the voice of QR, he wrote the majority of the lyrics for the band.If that so F>U>C>K> the TRIBUTE BAND OF CHRIS DEGARMO
I disagree with the order. And I am a huge fan of both men (and bands). Bruce is a (slightly) better stage performer, but he's very inconsistent as a live vocalist. Geoff rarely misses. I've seen both bands many times over the course of their careers and have had the pleasure of meeting both men. Geoff is the better vocalist. That being said, they're both incredibly cool human beings!
Incredible song. Such a shame and sad that Tate and the rest of the band had such a terrible falling out. Damn sad, and would be cool if they could ever make amends and play together again. Will never happen due to the ugly circumstances, but life is too short.
I saw these guys in concert around 2005 at The Universal Amphitheater. They were GREAT! I loved it. The songs brought back memories from the 80’s. I miss those days.
TATE does a great job here singing wise and stage confidence..... With older guys the older we get the voice deepens.... He is in the same key as the album However his voice is deeper here.... Great lower tone..... I believe he is singing about a octave lower...... Neat musical trick
Queensryche has ALWAYS blown my mind on so many levels since they first came on the scene. I was class of 1988 & here we are, & I still can't get enough of their music. It's sheer genius. Oh &.....Geoff Tate has always been sooo easy on the eyes. Millions of women agree, that's some eye candy right there. 🍬 He's like a yummy little snack lol!
At the Time I was 18, I allready played Guitar for about 11 years. And yeah, musicians under 20 years of age can be killer performers: Dimebag Darrel, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Steve Vai just to mention a very few. And I met alot of so called musicians whose are crap, both with performance AND instrument skills even after 30 years of playing! Time means nothing: desire and talent does.
Man I wish these guys would settle their differences. No disrespect to Todd, but if I'm going to see Queensryche, I wanna hear Geoff. He was just in my town recently playing in some shitty bar for maybe 60 people and he was awesome.
Ain't that the truth. Rare to actually hear "vocalists" these days. Bruce Dickinson, David Bowie... not many others... sorry. Sad but true. Don't even say Sebastian Bach or Axel Rose... suckage. Even Steven Tyler sucks live.
Geoff sounds great live.... as we know there are changes as we get older. Nothing ever stays the same ..... there is constant change .... and hopefully for the better.
I know that some of the opinions here are years old. I'd just like to add my 2 cents. Geoff is still outstanding vocaly ! I was a vocalist in a metal band out of Milwaukee for 13 years, and toured the Midwest. Some folks don't get it ! A singers instrument is with in us. Guitars, and drums are or whatever you play is just it ! You're playin' an instrument ! A vocalist is a physical presence,a voice. Not something you obtain at a music store. So all the bashers out there, jump on stage.and grab a mic ! Lets see what you got ! But I digress Tate is still outstanding ! When the magic is over,he moved on. Total respect for all us vocalists ! Long live Metal ! Thank's for lettin' me rant !
Everyone in the band is giving 100% but Geoff .Being theatrical doesn't replace the vocal work.See Bruce Dickinson giving 100% every time. Much more concentration of him on the wine business than the music.
