@@neilpeartspurplenose8739 Yeah, Silent Lucidity was all over rock radio and MTV. Empire was a great album, but too mainstream rock for me - I much preferred Operation:Mindcrime.
My GOD ! What a VOICE! I've loved them since the first album " Queensryche " and his vocals on " The Warning " ! Takes my breath away! One of the greatest EVER!
@@joewimberly5673 when they were at their peak,UNSTOPPABLE is right word. Strained relations and huge ego is what killed the band. I have a buddy who was a guitar tech for Degarmo for many years,he said that mid tour through Empire, is when it really began to show. Cash was rolling in and business was NOT any of the bands strongsuit. Shame, they were unreal.
You are dam right. This is strictly auto - I’m gonna Rock your ass off. When this band was in its prime they were an incredibly tight band. Then they self destructed. I wonder what Rockenfeld did with his incredible chrome chain hung drum kit. He sure used to beat the crap out of that setup for and incredible sound. They had it all at one time And I was lucky enough to see them on that four.
Stumbled across this by accident and man, this song instantly took me back to another place and time! One of the best songs not just of its time but ever! Geoff Tate’s voice personified the music of this era
How did u just stumble on this? It’s been out for years on dvd, I bought it the day it came out must have watched it every night for a least two weeks with a few ciders👍
I was lucky to see them in 2005 opening for Judas Priest (4/5 of the original line-up - Mike Stone on guitar) and I was just riveted how good they sounded live. Saw them again in 2007 (?) performing Mindcrime I & II... and again in 2009 (Parker Lundgren on guitar) But I have to say that the current Queensryche w/ Todd LaTorre was just as potent live.
I listened to Queensryche many years ago. I too stumbled across this video and WOW!... I forgot how great they were. So glad for RU-vid and other sources to capture footage like this because it gives our older favorites a chance to stay in the game or get back in it, and to show all the young fans and new bands how the "BIG BOYS" do it. Without it, half these bands would be just a distant memory or even fogotten about.
Man, this is one of the greatest pieces of music I have ever heard. All these years later and it still brings goosebumps to my skin when he belts out that iconic chorus. Band sounds real tight in this performance as well.
We were truly fucking spoiled rotten for quality rock and metal in the 90’s. Blessed even. The amount of times I remember listening to Rage, Operation and Empire stoned with friends and smiling in my happy place, I couldn’t even begin to tell ya. Good times. Blue skies indeed.
By far this is the best version of this song Geoff not only sang this song putting so much Hart in to it the vocal is so deep awesome and vibrant it's hard to describe it I just can't get enough of this song in this version absolutley love it He looks so happy and the whole band looks great too
I've always been to poor to see them live but have always loved Geof Tate. What a voice. No person I know can sing as well as him. Too bad his areiginal band can't see what an icon he is.
THESE are MUSICIANS! Every single one of these guys are accomplished talents at their instruments, and a TON OF CHARISMA is just icing on the cake! They are truly missed in this sewer of so-called "Rock-Stars" that we're stuck with today... God bless and take care...
@@metallion0738 If you ever want to take five normal, well adjusted young men and turn them into crazed jackasses just put them in a band. It's true, happens all the time! Sooner or later everybody is in the wrong.
They were one of the greatest bands in the world until they came out with Empire. After that album was released every radio station in the country ran the album and the band into the ground. I have seen countless concerts in my life but I never went to go see Queensryche because that album killed them for me. Warning, rage for order, operation mindcrime are all masterpieces and Empire was a good album too but all the radio stations over played it and wore me out for Queensryche
@@whatndafukdadog3635 Thank You for that comment! A lot of folks wanted to tell me that it was one person or another, but the issue was people not getting along no matter what was at stake. As my Dad told me " Stupid has a name, don't let it be yours!".
Damn, awesome song, love his voice. I saw them in LA when I was a teenager and the concert was unforgettable. Takes me back in time of hard core partying!!! Great memories...
@@acegibson9533 sorry, but you are 100% wrong. Implying that he was 'lip-syncing' this is about as absurd as saying Justin Bieber is a real artist in every sense.
@John Timmins never said there weren't added back-ups, just that the guitarists vocals were 'mint'. You one of those guys who troll youtube looking to pounce on people's comments?
Hey I just love this song ! He sings with such intense passion it’s bone of my all time favorites!! Perfection is rare and they are perfectly synchronized in their performance!!
There's a lot of singers that come near to how they sounded on studio recordings, even more who don't. Only the very best exceed their studio performance, Geoff definitely belongs to that category.
YES, YES, ALRIGHT ♥️
So under rated as they never conformed and always did things their OWN way....very talented, probably never mainstream acceptance and probably the reason I love their music...I own it because they did...Thank you Queensryche for doing it your way.
Dude, they went "public" with this album, meaning they toned down their rock and roll roots. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good album (their last one) however, may I suggest you look up "Take Hold of the Flame" and the whole album "Operation: Mindcrime." That Mindcrime album will blow you away, compared to Empire.
not sure what you mean by "still"....this was recorded in 2001...almost 20 years ago....his voice is not still as good as it was then....to be fair he was still quite good back then.
Yes. Even all these years later, he STILL has a killer voice. Don't let the naysayers proclaim otherwise. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0H_IB-cSgMY.html
The first couple of times seeing them live I was in awe as they were so tight ! I didn't hear as much as a missed note , beat , octave or pitch at all ! The closest I've ever seen to perfection in their performances .
@@torehy5912 I just meant Im so used to the old guys and videos. I wasnt criticizing their personal appearance, sorry about my vague and perhaps misleading comment.
Kelly Gray is an awesome musician and one of the great Seattle music engineers. He has been a friend and colleague of QR for years, recording and mixing a lot of their hits. He stepped in to fill the lead spot after Chris retired because they couldn't find a suitable replacement. After they got their new guy, Kelly went back to his support role. I was at this show back in 01 is it was fukin awesome and Kelly rocked it!
My old room mate and band mate , Geoff( Jeff) and I were great friends , He worked at Brenner Brothers Bread and I worked at Oberto Beef Jerky and we shared a 3 bedroom Apartment along with another famous bassist R.I.P. . We sang along to a Judas Priest Album almost every morning before work, or played tennis and listened to The Cars or The Knack. He was a big Pat Benetar and Heart Fan. When we weren’t rehearsing or performing, we would go to see Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday Nights.
Growing up Queensryche was hands down my favorite band. I saw them for the Empire tour and they were great. Then I went to see them in '97 I believe for "hear in the now frontier" tour and Chris was no longer with them and the music was so awful. I love all the band members, but Chris and Geoff were the engine to that band (imho).
