Responsiveness comes first. Colour & Fidelity next. XR2 gen 2 is approx 50% more powerful than XR2, Q3 battery life is concerning.

Really wish they would show some improvements and advancements to their PCVR software, or changes to the Airlink side of things in general. Airlink hasn't really seen any big changes to UI or functionality in years. Seems like they've forgotten about the users who want to use this device for PCVR. Good thing Guy Godin has got our backs however.

The go to solution for pcvr in quest devices is always gonna be Vitual Desktop.. the dev behind this actually cares about the product and is constantly updating the app to improve the experience of pcvr users.. unlike meta that sees pcvr as an extra feature so theres very little (close to none) support for airlink

@@jordanmackay6746 How about passthrough mode, some type of virtual home environment instead of a white void, graphical settings options, framerate options in headset, upscaling tech implementation, or consistent performance that doesn't break after every software update would be nice....to name a few. Pretty basic things that are all present in VD.

A word of advise. When showing multiple comparisons like this I would try to keep the units in the same place. Here, the two units kept switching sides and it made it harder to keep track of which was which. This is especially true if viewing on a smaller screen where it’s harder to read the text showing which is which.

For me, poly count and textures are less important than lighting. I would sacrifice graphical complexity in favour of realistic lighting/shadows, which has the biggest impact on my feeling of presence in the world. Responsive motion > Lighting > Textures > Poly count.

I actually agree, lighting is so underrated when it comes to graphics, it can really change the feeling of a game completely! I recently played Quake II remastered, and it was epic

I agree but I also think later on when the software has some updates the power will be increased and possibly have less compression and better lighting down the road. The quest 2 had so many updates but some did increase the performance. So hopefully they flush it out in time to come to truly see some crazy visuals later on.

But the dynamic shadows shake a lot, may be because they are low resolution. I hope they don't break imersion. Just look at the shadows on the statue, and you will see.

Another great video, thanks as always! I would LOVE to see a Quest 3 vs Pico 4 guide. I am in Canada and had to order a Pico 4 via Amazon UK and I love it, and when I look at the specs/reviews of Quest 3, I'm just not super excited. But, admittedly part of that is I'm all in for PCVR, not standalone hardware/processors. But would love to see a roundup of those thoughts.

I doubt the pico 4 will hold up compared. When looking at the pico I found most people thought yes it was better for pcvr but the graphic improvements weren’t THAT much better than just the quest 2. So seeing what I’m seeing here. I can’t imagine it’d come close

Is quest 3 has usb gen 2 or gen 1? If it has gen 2 (10gb/s instead of 5gb/s) then image quality on the link cable is gonna be much better and less distorted

That is correct. It is a much better video codec over h264 and h265 to provide a really really clean picture at the same cost as h265. It is a game changer for video compression@@LunaticStruggler

Can you use a Quest 2 or 3 as a replacement monitor for work? Like run my PC on it as my desktop and have my Outlook and Browser and numerous work emails all open and usable in a large field work area?

Technically you can, but I don't know how viable that is long term for you. Have to consider comfort, and reading text is still easier on a monitor. Some people do wear a VR headset all day for work, but I think once we are at 40 ppd or so, it will be more common as a full monitor replacement.

Texture resolution doesn't mean display or render resolution. They upped the texture resolution in that game. You can mod 8k and 16k texture resolutions in pc games.

The headset looks like a big upgrade, and the price is pretty reasonable for what you get. When you come to review the headset, could you really stress test the tracking for the controllers and compare it with quest 2 controllers? is it really just as good without the tracking rings?

It has already been shown that the design of the “ringless” controllers has improved tracking, because they put cameras on them, the same that are on the headset itself. This way, even when the cameras on the headset cannot capture the motion, it is still captured like when you have a controller behind your head or hidden behind your body. So the tracking is 100% improved on the newer controller design.

It does depending on your internet and modem if you 1 gig speed and ethernet to your p.c. or a wifi 6 router your good. The air link is impressive. At least ny experience with it has always been good. But I do prefer the cable when playing single player story games like half life alyx or hubris the visuals are better bc there is way less latency. But for beat saber, zenith or a few others air link works fine as long as your p.c. can handle the recommended settings or higher. On the meta p.c. app

@@christopherlester3422 just pointing out that internet speed doesn't matter, it's just the speed of your local wifi connection that is important. It doesn't matter if you have a 1 gig pipe or dial up coming in as long as the router is solid for local connections. If I misunderstood what you meant I apologize.

As someone who has zero experience with any Quest headsets, I have a question. I've got a few "less than legitimately owned" games that I can run perfectly fine on my ancient Odyssey+ and I'd still want to be able to play them if I upgrade. I know I'll be able to play legitimately owned SteamVR games no problem, but will I still be able to run my pirated PCVR games without any issues like I can now?

Fair enough! But usually RU-vidrs upload it in 4K so that it’s a higher bitrate, even if the source video itself is only 1080p. RU-vid’s compression usually makes 1080p videos look worse (and now it’s even worse because they’re making a higher bitrates on 1080p a “premium” option) So if you notice compression artifacts (think of a video looking “blocky” or “pixelated”) in a video, that higher bitrate/quality will be an option if they upload it in 4K/1440p too. :)

Index is starting to show its age with low resolution and its tracking could be finicky at times, and is pretty fragile, I recommend waiting.

I wouldn't get an Index now unless you got it at a "good friend price", much less than a Q3. Then you can upgrade just the headset and keep the base stations. But we don't even know if the next gen of VR will use base stations.

Just wish they gave you the option to swap out the face plat like htc does with the cosmos so you can use base stations. I am currently using the index controllers and wouldn't bother with anything else. The headset is really impressive for the price.

Just to note... non of the games shown were actually made for the Quest 3 in mind.... all questb2 titles with a patch for quest 3.... what will REALY make the Q3 shine is when they make a game that is specifically optimised for the Q3 - pushing its limits... and im pretty sure it will l0ok absolutely incredible

render distance fog adds so much atmosphere to games. the quest2 looks so much better in certain ways. 2:20 they could at least add filters or something to compensate for the lack of atmosphere.

I'm really looking forward to have a quest 3, but it's not clear to me why a future game should not be playable on the old quests. I understand that this apply for the game that run on the quest itself but is it not possible to run these games from your PC anymore? are these games headset only? I own a 3080 I think that my video card is much more powerful than any quest chipset.

All PCVR games work on all older Quests. The whole thing about Quest 3 exclusivity only applies to standalone games.

early has nothing to do with it. it's quite literally impossible to catch up, due to physics. PCs will always have exponentially larger chips, with an even larger power draw. mobile capabilities will always be about a decade behind, just because of the physical nature of hardware. mobile chips are the size of a micro SD card, and that's the cpu and gpu combined, and only draw a few watts. desktop cpus can be the size of a credit card, and gpus can be on their own pcb the size of a shoe box, while drawing hundreds of watts. until we have cloud rendering, the 2 will never be close in performance.

Despite the flaws, I’ve had a quest 2 for about 3 years now and it’s become the mechanical equivalent to my vegetable state senile grandmother. Thankfully, this Christmas with the help of some friends I’ll be getting the Quest 3, which not only will restore my choppy and elder home experience of gameplay, but will restore it bigger and better. I’m really looking forward to purchasing this.

This blows my mind every game (except guardian frontlines) made a very noticeable difference, dynamic shadows paired with upscaling just makes the game look INSANE, personally as long as gameplay is good, graphics arent the most important thing, artstyle is. but graphics are a big bonus

How many enemies respond at once,how far in the distance can you see,how big is a openworld with lot going on without loading screen after loading screen,how many players at once etc etc. People think quest games only has less graphics as quality pcvr or console but it has so many other negative impuls on games.

I hope they improved the ability to load your own videos recorded with 360 5K cameras. Anything loaded on Quest 2 causes constant crashes when attempting to play the video

The graphics are totally worth it alone to buy the Quest 3. Also, after watching Meta Connect yesterday, are you sure you **really** missed out by not being invited to attend. It was… uhhh… “interesting” to watch… “that”. 👀 Thankfully, nothing was awkward or embarrassing and occasionally somewhat dystopian. Nope, felt completely normal and comfortable watching everything yesterday. Yep! 🤪

Yeah battery life and charging while playing should be a #1 thing.. graphics isn't nothing if you can only play 1hr then charge it lol that a problem with standalone headset.. my Q2 i have a link cable and it never dies playing not plugged up 2or less hrs.. with Q3 having graphics upgrade and more stuff they better have a battery that lasts 4hrs at least in heavy gaming

We are in a identical time to where consoles used to be with graphics. The quest 2 to quest 3 is a good Improvement but that's only bc its all we know. Quest 3 at the end of the day just isn't great graphically , it's just a bit better than quest 2 is all, same, just a bit clearer. It's pretty much the going from the gamecube to the wii Imo I woukd recommend ppl finding a used quest 2 and playing with it until we reach the ps4 era of VR and then upgrade. Then the graphics will be at the point its just too much better to pass on upgrading bc the experience will be so much different where as going to quest 2 to 3 is just a cool upgrade that is only deemed amazing bc its all we know We will look back one day at the quest 3 and say how bad those graphics actually were but to be fair, vr has to go through these stages to eventually get realistic

Zuck should pay Guy Godin for basically single-handedly bringing in the PCVR crowd because Air Link is no comparison. Without Virtual Desktop, I'd have not bothered with the Quest 2 or 3.

It doesn't look as pretty as the PC version or PSVR 2, but it's definitely a big step up from Quest 1/2 and looks on par with the base PS4 on the original PSVR, I can't wait to see what the developers come up with in the future with Quest 3 hardware. I'm curious to see if Quest 3 games will be on par with the PS4 or even reach the level of the PS4 Pro, which would be incredibly insane for a standalone headset.

Gonna be honest Looking at newly released games, and new upcoming games. Seems like VR gaming is gonna get a significant boost. When I got my oculus quest VR gaming seemed to of went stagnant after Zenith released

If they choose a lower-end or mid-range SoC with significantly reduced costs while simultaneously increasing the size of the lenses and the built-in screen, along with resolution, they can achieve a slight cost reduction overall while increasing FOV and resolution by 20%-30%. This would make it more appealing. By improving hardware performance without significantly increasing FOV and slightly improving resolution, it appears their goal is solely to encourage players to buy more games on the Meta platform, rather than providing players with a VR device they truly desire. The aim seems to be to drive more game purchases on the Meta platform rather than making a VR device that players truly desire, so Quest 3 may not attract as many buyers.

while i agree FOV is probably the single most important thing in vr, more fov means more resolution to get the same image quality. it also means higher hardware demands in order to drive that resolution. you can't lower the hardware specs, on top of increase hardware demand, and expect a good experience. most devs already render games well below native resolution because they're trying to run decent quality VR on a mobile chip.

can someone help me decide, I have quest 1, and I am not sure if I wanna upgrade to quest 3 or get a gaming pc to play pcvr with my quest 1, I can afford one of them, sure quest 3 got better graphics than my quest 1 and 2, but the PC can deliver much more graphics on my quest 1

A gaming PC has more uses than a VR headset just generally speaking. I use my PC for VR all the time but I use it to play Cyberpunk or whatever just as often.

@@user-tw2xq5co1g it's a matter of taste, how much you want to spend on a PC, and weighing the pros and cons of each. VR is niche, PCVR is even more niche (statistically), but PC gaming and modding in general is huge.

@sodapopinksi667 I can afford a mid range, an i5 13400f RTX 3060 16 gb ram, plug it with my quest 1 vs quest 3 that provides slightly better graphics. I prefer graphics in VR games, always wanted to try Alyx.

Dunno, power-wise, it looks like it's going from "ultra-low settings" to "very-low" settings. I think the Quest 3 will be compelling as a package considering all the improvements, especially on weight, lenses, controllers, and passthrough.

Considering they started late, I'm wondering if things just didn't go right. Everything seems off, like he was just flying blind and just speaking freely without a teleprompter. They really need to bring in some outside help for these shows, they're not doing very goon on their own.

Ordered from Amazon Germany a few weeks ago (512GB) and didn't receive it on the release date. New delivery date expected at the beginning of November! Incredibly bad handling on Meta's part. The cheap headsets are delivered before the expensive ones. So the kiddies get them first. This can also alienate wealthy customers and companies that use the more expensive Quest.
