I thought the suggestions/predictions on the board needed to be announced/confirmed directly by Meta during the Meta Connect Livestream to be valid for the Bingo.

I checked the page to see if this would be a good upgrade. What made me not want to get this was the fact it didn't state FOV, Battery Life, or basically any specs in detail and it was all just vague lol.
@@anran6425 It makes sense since the device have poor battery life already. Honestly I don't understand why not just put a 10,000 battery and have better battery life.
@@yoanperez172 that's what I was thinking. maybe they'll allow people to buy a headstrap upgrade with better battery life just like they did for the q2
The only thing I am a bit confuse on is their goal over all with the Quest Pro - or should I say Quest Enterprise. Just seem like a mix bag of things thrown togather as one display and then try to curve it with the idea that it can replace the current desktop for business work. Yet, they don't really support PCVR (not gaming, but I mean the idea of what PCVR is). I would figure if that was their twist they would have show off more demos of it working plug in (to get around that 2 hr limit) and really showing off stuff like USB-C over DP or something similar. Or the idea on how they are baking VD into their software more to really give you that desktop feel with more meeting + co working without distants. For example, working at the desk with the headset with a few windows up using Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and then a call comes in asking how the reports are going before then switching to meeting room mode where they show off the current reports and other things that user was working on. Would've been cooler, but again, I am not really sure how eye tracking and face tracking really would've help for all this... just seems like extra that maybe wasnt needed for this goal set? At least for face tracking that seems more useful for the community than productivity. Eye tracking is a bit hard to nail down if its needed or not just because it does allow for more features, but at hte same time, who is going to really be programming for them when Oculus 3 for example wont be getting it? As a business owner, I can tell you we do look at features and price - but we have to look at it as who will be getting what for what reason. Normally money makers will get better hardware over people that just do paper work. While I know there are a few places where we could spend the moeny - it doesnt replace the cheaper monitor we can get by the lot. That's where they still need to look at feature dropping across different models would come in handy if they ever just release more than one headset with different goals in mind.
I agree and I think Meta doesn't really know who will end up buying it. They should have had some great first party apps just for this thing. Instead of stuff they've had for a while Collaboration is nice, but I don't see how they will stop companies like Microsoft for doing the same thing with other ecosystems that come up soon
There is another, less pessimistic possible side to the depth sensor drama that people may not realize: with the recent rapid advancements of computer vision AI there is a new belief among some experts starting to get popular (originally started by Tesla years ago) that computer vision/cameras are getting so good you may not need (or even want) some of the other sensors - not just for BOM cost reduction, but because the sensor fusion may actually do more harm than good - you can literally degrade the results by integrating more data from other sensors that isn't precise enough or even if not degrading - not getting enough benefit for the complexity it introduces and complexity is always a negative thing that slow progress and maintenance down. People who never worked on tech projects often don't realize that sometimes having more stuff isn't better even when it's free. The first controversy in automotive industry was about LIDAR (turns out moving cameras can create incredible depth maps too and often higher res) and surprisingly one of the biggest proponents of LIDAR in cars from Uber now changed his view 180 and agrees with Tesla and sees lidar as a dead end...Tesla then removed radar and now is removing ultrasonic sensors from their new cars as camera CV started doing better and better job. The writing is on the wall. Meta could look at research data from their labs and notice that it's not worth it with how good new CV algorithms are getting. It could also be a big gamble etc. The biggest weakness of cameras is the lack of light situations, not a problem for cars which are legally required to have lights on at night, but for HMDs it would be nice to have full tracking in darkness...
Yeah elon has been saying this but most experts disagree completely on this. There is nothing more pure than data from a sensor that is built for that. Lidar is giving you an exact direct observation. While the cameras are just giving info that then you use to approximate using quick computation what the resulting distance is. Its not direct, and can have flaws.
@@droid16beta97 Tesla's have accidents that LIDAR would have prevented You can't have a self driving car that is only as reliable as human vision - you need something superior. LIDAR is that. Cameras don't even match out eyes
Hmm, quest 2 is already a monitor replacement for my work. If Pro even has any perceived increase in clarity, along with color pass-through makes me interested in this product. ...maybe just not early adopter. I'll be keeping my eye out for a refurbished unit after the new year.
Yeah, Meta said it should be 40% more sharp in the center, because pixels are not so much scaled up by the lenses, so text should be much better readable, also because of the clear lenses. But maybe for that a Pico 4 would also be a thing, also pancake but higher resolution as well.
So first of all it's probably important to consider that the panel resolution of this device will more than likely be closer to 2160×2160 rendered at 1800×1920. Once I heard that meta confirmed the controller battery life is more like 5-8 hours and that you can get more than 1-2 hours on the headset if you just turn off the face tracking feature (coupled with the fact that you can still charge the headset with a 3rd party USB battery device without having to use a wire, I figured I need to get it just for the pancake lenses and 37% pixel increase. For me, whether it's simulators, watching TV, games, browser, the pancake lenses are a must to get rid of a multitude of display issues including those blurred lines on the edges of everything. Also I do believe that there will be optional 120hz experimental feature adopted within the next couple of months once Zuck realizes its not just companies buying this stupid thing. It was so ridiculous that there wasn't one mention of using this specific piece of hardware for entertainment, simulators, games, fitness in full vr. The potential is definitely there even for gamers. Yes, you'll have to give an arm and a leg to buy one and yes, you'll have to buy some separate accessories but the potential is there for this thing to be used outside of commercial business.
it is not LOL. You people are pathetic. Never ever has anyone claimed the rendered resolution instead of the physical/real resolution of the screens. It doesn't even make sense to do that. If the screens are x resolution than they are x resolution. Also rendered resolution depends on the apps and the devs.

After hearing the battery life of the controllers isn't 1-2 hours and that the headset battery can be extended to more than the Q2's if you disable the pro features I caved and bought it, even though I'm still kicking myself over paying that extortionate price. I just really wanted pancake lenses (fresnel artifacting is seriously the only reason I don't use my headset to watch stuff), the extra comfort and those self-tracking controllers. I appreciate I could've just picked up a pico for the pancakes or the controllers on their own to pair with a Q2 but I wanted both benefits. While I'd like eye and face tracking.... a) 1-2 hour battery life with them on b) What you mentioned about it not even currently being transmitted to PCVR c) Even if it does get PCVR added, there'll be almost no support for it outside of stuff that already does it. I can't see VRChat's iffy eye and face integration seeing significant improvement just for this niche headset Honestly, I think the Q3 not having eye and face is probably the right choice if it's going to kill the battery that badly while also bumping up the price so significantly and if can't be used in PCVR then it's super handicapped anyway. Honestly, I would've preferred it if the pro had dumped those too and either been cheaper or put the money from those features into just about anything else.
I agree completely. Once I heard that meta confirmed the controller battery life is more like 5-8 hours and that you can get more than 1-2 hours on the headset if you just turn off the face tracking feature (coupled with the fact that you can still charge the headset with a 3rd party USB battery device without having to use a wire, I figured I need to get it just for the pancake lenses and 37% pixel increase. considering they don't do hand tracking over PCVR, I also had been worried/assumed that they won't support eye and face tracking on PCVR. Which makes the headset a total brick. Dead on arrival, piece of trash. So, the answer to that question is going to determine whether or not I'm going to buy one or not.
i dont think they will support it over airlink and link. My guess is that it's probably going to be implemented into third party software like ALVR, though.
A few weeks ago I wasn't even considering the Pico 4 just because of the amount of software I own on Quest. But due to the insane cost of this headset I suspect I will move to Pico.
@@Gr0nal I'm currently on a Quest one. I didn't think the Quest 2 was enough of an upgrade to bother with. But The new Pico 4 does look awesome and I do have a very good gaming PC. So will probably go Pico 4.
Hard to say, but if you are just going for a more gamer/casual gamer then you would be better off getting the P4 or Q3. Granted, Q3 wont be out for another year so P4 might still be the better option. P4 does lack some software shining - but I think it should be good enough for the every day needs.
I really didn't like the increased resolution at the centre of vision. It sounds like the lenses distort the image so that the centre of the lens covers more pixels (like a small fish-eye) to increase resolution there. Obviously the image is rendered opposite to remove the distortion but that sounds to me like even things like reading will require you to move your head from side to side. I'd like to see in person but it really feel like it could be a very annoying feature (and also doesn't bode well for dynamic rendering based on eye tracking).
I understand it so that the fresnel lenses of the Quest 2 zooms the pixels in the center more up, so the pixels in center are there bigger than on the edge. But maybe I'm wrong and you are right. Meta is really bad in communicate clear facts, too much space for speculation. Look on controller battery life, I heard 2h, 6h, 8h and now in this video 4-5h... 🤦♂
I think the effective resolution will be higher than the Quest 2. The Quest has the fixed panel so loses usable resolution to be able to adjust for ipd. That shouldn't be the case on the Pro
Wah I'm disappointed with it, but it all goes towards the progression of VR for everybody. I'm going to wait and happily use my Quest 2 for now. I've had a "Go", CV1, Index, Rift S and the Quest II is the best yet - especially with Sidequest improvements in the resolution. I'm going to just wait for Valve to come up with the their next headset. I don't want to support Zuckerberg or his horrible metaverse plans. Those avatars look proper shit. I want Carmack over with Valve
The price point is very high not because of the number in a vacuum - 1500$ would be dirt cheap for a Varjo Aero with controller and inside out tracking - it is high for what the Quest Pro ended up being. The AR aspect appears to be lackluster (2d cameras, distortion, weak color fidelity), the oh-so expensive to make eye tracking equally problematic with no use short of animating avatars ?! (no PCVR, no foveated rendering ? ..for now), lowered refresh rate, lower resolution (compared to Q2), pancake lenses that aren't earth shattering anymore (Pico 4 and all future HMDs most likely for much less, not a premium feature anymore).... that's hardware wise. The fact that they're extremely opaque over their tech spec is also extremely worrying. Software wise they haven't shown a single demo that would convince an enterprise that their device make sense in a productivity setting. In fact, their 'demos' were very similar to MS Hololens proof of concepts a few years back. Where I'm frustrated isn't because it's not looking like a great upgrade to the Q2 for gaming, it is frustrating because it gives the impression Meta have no idea where they are heading and that's terrible news for VR overall.
@@SadlyItsBradley how is it able to scan/map our environment then? We saw an AR robot walking around a room, climbing up walls/across the ceiling and around a table!!! 🤔
@@neilrisley1321 It's not able to scan the environment. You have to mark your walls manually with the controller. Works just the same as Quest2. I think this is really just a headset for meant for chat, not for AR. The AR part is just what people assumed from the leaks.
@@grumbel45 "the AR" as you put it was a pretty big part of Mark Zuckerbergs presentation...& every person that has had hand on experience with the Quest Pro!!! 🤦♂️
I'll need grips to be able to use those controllers though. There's literally nothing to hang off. And I most likely can't use my existing groups because they'll likely block the cameras.
Depth sensors typically need a lot of power to run (an exception is LiDAR sensor in iPhone where they have very low depth sensor resolution and AI upscales the depthmaps with help of RGB image). I know from my app 3D Live Scanner, if you 3D scan using depth sensor the battery drain is extreme. I cannot imagine Meta would use it for a long mixed reality sessions.
It'd be cool if there was a controller specific analysis. My Q2 controllers are starting to drift (compressed air in and around the stick is letting me limp on) but it seems like for someone who plays a lot of FPS games that buying the controllers instead of the headset might be the way to go.
If you are talking about upgrading to the new Quest pro controllers to use for your Quest 2.... I dont know if that's a good idea. They are $300 and the battery life on them is supposedly only 2 hours max lol
@@MicaSloan i did too, but on Metas website and after rewatching the video Zuck says it will have the same battery life as the headset lol which is a huge disappointment to say the least.. I mean unless you have the upgraded battery pack on your quest 2 you won't be playing longer than 2 hours now anyways... but still.
@@MicaSloan yeah I feel ya. I did recheck the website and I swear it was listed there but its not now and Brad even mentions this in the video about them not specifying the controllers battery life. Zuck said it'll last as long as the headset but I dont actually think he SAID 1-2 hours that's just how I took it. But regardless I guess the probable answer is less than 6 hours, which is still way less than quest 2 controllers but usable if you are looking to upgrade. I still think $300 for the controllers is crazy though
Are you sure it was the majority which was suprised? You said this will be a business headset made primarily for creators and therefor more expensive and powerful. Facebook said more or less the same on the last event. It will be the more expensive line based on the latest and greatest VR. So I wasn't suprised at all.
Yeah, I directly go on to the specs page and my first thought was "Are you kidding me?". I'm not often see such bad specs pages, at mostly they are from chinese companies... Maybe you will have two more Bingos when we know the capacity of the new Touch Controllers. 🤔
@@SadlyItsBradley Sorry hehe.. I guess Valve Deckard is maybe not going to surface for another year or more. I might just go PICO or hope PIMAX 12K QLED is good and hold out until EOY. I don't wanna wait 1-2 years more for a Deckard... :(
As a Elon Musk / Tesla fanboy I don't think the depth sensor is required. Computer vision and AI is the way to go and breakthroughs in AI should solve this. Regarding the touch controllers, are these better than the index controllers? I think the eye tracking / face tracking is integrated in the Movement SDK. And this should be accessible on PC, but a developper should correct me here.
If someone could do the impossible and hack the Quest Pro controllers to work with the Pico 4, we would have the Stinson a year early! A commenter can dream i guess
I've been wondering about this and came to the conclusion that while their research indicates vertical FoV is more beneficial for immersion, horizontal is probably more useful when trying to just use it as a multiple monitor setup or other such business uses as you're more likely to scan sideways than up and down :o
@@Geminosity ill just add that the vertical FoV should include your hands and real keyboard ideally for the productivity aspect. I wonder if it does. Judging from my Quest2 with keyboard thats a bit iffy. I have to look down a bit.
I watched the stream with you. And thanks for this sum up. Question : you said John Carmack said quest pro wasn’t a good monitor replacement option. Where can i get is point of view about this? Can’t wait for you to get your hands on this unit. I’ve been pushing back changing my monitor and my living room tv cause i really would prefer the vr or mr option. Quest 2 is awful for me because of the god rays. Have a great day!
I do chainsaw carving and capture the sculpture with photogrammetry. So I wanna use Quest Pro do do something with it for when I display it at art galleries. I'm all like🤔
It's impressive to watch a consumer-hostile company like Facebook try to figure out VR, an industry that requires consumer friendliness in order to succeed. I don't think they'll ever understand though, and it's a little painful because we all know they have all the right tools at their disposal. What a waste.

I guess they could argue that its not the full kit for 1500, because you did not get the full facial interface etc. I'm sure Brad keeps saying death sensor! Any way joking aside it most definately is not worth 1500 in my opinion
thank you i was thinking about buying one but glad i did not, i want a MR head set that i can also game with, i went to best buy for a demo those controllers are dope defiantly quality, i could not get them to put a desktop up sadly the demo was games really wanted to see the Qual of movies and desk work, witch is crazy cuz i thought thats what its for desk work office stuff, Meta is a confused company,
I thought so too but 1500 USD = 2000 CAD and I believe meta's website price does include taxes (15%) which really comes to 2300$. I do recall not paying taxes for my Quest and Quest 2 but a higher price (basically the same as other retails). Is it still the case ?
I'm really hoping I'm able to get a second controller charging cable. If I have to stop using my $1500 headset because the controllers died when my Quest 2 can operate for a week with the headset charging, I'm going to be pissed
the headset and the controllers all charge at the same time on the charging base. so you won’t run into this anyway unless you’re on the go and only have the cables with you
Depth sensors are common in the military and industrial environments. They can be used to resolve black and white images. One of the faults that sensor has, is it can't see thin, non rigid fabrics. Like curtains. Or clothes. To a limited extant, software could be made to make the depth sensor into a voyeurs' x-ray goggles to ogle the guys and gals in public XD
If the face camera is not available to pc then I honestly can't justify getting this product. The only thing going for this product over the pico4 is basically the better micro oled display. But is it worth $900 more for that feature?
Well you should break it up a bit more than 900 as you are getting new V3 controllers along with that eye/face tracking... but how much those are worth to you is a different question. Agree if they dont allow a way for others to use said data on the PC - whats the point? Again, it just feels like they are trying so hard to kill PCVR and its not going to work out well for them
I think it could be a bandwidth issue to send the the raw images from the face cameras also. But I bet it could send the "decoded" data to the PC like (eyeLookingAt: X,Y pos) for the eyetracking camera, but they would have to include it in the SDK later. But then if Quest 3 is not including them, they might wait a good minute with that SDK.
@@CognosSquare They said they wont want to share the raw data. Instead, they mask the data onto a model that they can use... not a bad thing there, but then they wont share that model data I guess back to the PC... could just be a limit like you said, but they been known to do some fishy things in the past as well.
Not listing specifications is akin to not listing ingredients on a label. It should be illegal. I guess people that it matters to will just have to wait for a tear-down community video. Really is an awful strategy to obfuscate information from any product let alone one that costs $1500. Also, my vote is DUMB to proprietary charging cables. Taking a page from Apples shitty book there aren't they.
2 hour battery life was a dealbreaker for me but If eye and face tracking are not available on PC this headset is just an expensive Brick imo. Meta is underestimating the power of VR cat(bois)girls and furry who are willing to eat pasta everyday for 2 month just to pull some ahegao face live. I'm tired of Only seeing entreprise grade headset made for Startups. Pico is good but lack the Eye and face tracking for social VR yet ( TBA with pico 4 pro i know) Who wants to do simple bureautic task on a Headset with about the same resolution as a 20$ desk Screen in the aftermarket. I work as a 3D Artist with Blender, Subtance and Unity. Honestly i don't see even a big company like Adobe making a seemless implementation of it's software ( you know, with actual usefull features ) until the next 10 years maybe ? consedering how ( i believe) niche XR work application are Right now. Hell even during the Connect we didn't see any actual application of the headset XR work abilities beside Guy making cool skateboard with particles effect. And as cool as the headset is, even if i don't look at the downsides I don't see myself including it in my workflow anytime soon considering it's just a screen replacement to me for now.

They fucked up on many things on the pro but Q3 will probably be good value. But it will have fierce competition from Pico 5 I bet. And next year it will be Q3 vs Pico 6.
I totally believed you about the price, I even made a video based on your leak where I said that the Euro price will be even higher than the equivalent of 1500$ and I was also right.
@@SadlyItsBradley that was not surprising. Even before the dollar appreciated against euro, Quest 2 was $299 but €349. Just remember you have a 30 day return window for Quest Pro :)
