A very special occasion to celebrate the 200th edition of the show with HRH Princess Anne and John Rutherford on Emlyn Hughes' team and Bill Beaumont is joined by Nigel Mansell and Linford Christie.
Taken from an old Betamax recording this restoration is as good as I can do in spite of a brief wobble half way through.

Not surprising that she could do it in and have good fun. As much as the royals have that stuffy reputation (and sometimes for good reason), they have shown some great senses of humour. I remember when Spike Milligan referred to the King (then the Prince of Wales) as a "Groveling bastard" on live TV (during a testimonial tribute to Spike, which HM sent a letter in honour, HM (who loved The Goon Show and once filmed a comedy clip where he did a proper impression of Bluebottle) had a big laugh and when Spike sent a telegram the next day asking "I suppose a Knighthood is out of the question?", HM replied "Keep groveling" (Spike eventually got his Knighthood). Another was when Queen Elizabeth was on an official visit to the United States and was making an introductory speech, the microphone bank was so high you couldn't see her face and it looked like her hat was talking. A couple days later when she made a speech at a Joint Session of Congress (with the mics at a proper height), she started by saying "I hope everyone can see me today."

Absolutely hilarious..just watched this after reading that they've cancelled the whole programme...shouldn't have sacked Sue Barker..Phill and Matt and replaced them with the godawful Paddy McGuinness and two team captains in Sam Quek and Ugo Monye who don't have a personality between them..l watched 20 minutes of the first episode with these three and realised it was dire and doomed..

Super stuff! Particularly liked the men's singles match clip. That was back when tennis players enjoyed themselves as well as taking it seriously. And no blasted grunts and groans, either!

Thank you! Been looking for this forever. Greatly appreciated!! Did they get Princess Anne’s title wrong though? They have HRH THE PRINCESS ANNE. Shouldn’t it have read HRH THE PRINCESS ROYAL PRINCESS ANNE? At any rate, she seems like the most connected of the Queen’s children. She was a good sport!

She was given the title The Princess Royal later that year, so didn't have it when this was filmed
