I'm not a cowboy. I admire the culture without a doubt, and hope to own a horse of my own one day, but I really like watching these videos because it's nice to see a guy so passionate about a craft that he's clearly mastered. There's nothin you dont seem to know about in your own world. Give us more wisdom!

When will you, if ever, be in North Carolina again? I'm 68, just about ready to retire, and I've loved horses all my life. I was in rodeo at age 12 and 13 but raised in the city of Dallas TX. All my relatives on my mother's side were from a small town of Canton, just 65 miles east of Dallas. I've been around horses, but never taken care of them nor saddled them. I live in Charlotte NC now. I'm retiring to a small town NE of Charlotte about 1 hour. I probably couldn't take care of a horse, but I would love to come out for a month or two to learn from you how to care for horses. I regret not staying with it. Love what you do. Thanks, Frank

Hey Duane, just found your channel and have caught up on all of your videos. Just let me say that you are the man. I am in my early 70's now and I was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana and lived there until I went in the military in 1968. I love your viewpoints and core beliefs and it is really refreshing to find someone who still has and practices the "old school" cowboy way. I started working cattle ranches when I was 13 yrs. during summer vacations and was brought up in the cowboy way of living and conducting yourself. Keep up the great work Pard, and we will be watching.

Just found your channel, I’m loving the videos so far. I love wearing vests, I have Wyoming traders and have loved those for the ND winter. I always felt dumb and like a poser bearing vests, wild rags and hats since I’m a horse person but don’t work a ranch/farm, but about 8 years ago I decided I didn’t care anymore what others thought and if I feel comfortable and good in them then I should wear what I want. Also that no one cares what your wearing.

I've been playing baseball for pretty much my whole life. And I'm not quite sure how much further it'll go. I'm not quite sure if I want it to. There isn't much I'm good at. But there's also a lot of things I haven't tried. But for the last two years something that's been calling my name is the life of a buckaroo.

Love you videos After cleaning saddle leather appropriately, as you said or with saddle soap, if needed, I use a couple of drops of clove oil, and a few drops of citronella oil in 1/4 cup neatsfoot oil mixed well, and applied evenly and sparingly. The clove oil will kill the mould and the citronella will repel insects from eating the leather. Hope this helps. Stay safe.

Respectfully, mold doesn't need living tissue to grow. I Googled: What are the conditions for mold growth? "Mold will grow in places with a lot of moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or where there has been flooding. Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood products. Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery." I speak as a Biology major with a four year degree and former teacher of the subject. Otherwise when it comes to horses you are spot on. I really enjoy your experiences and wisdom about this beautiful animal. without whom we would all still be living in caves.

Tie downs and draw reins are an advertisement that says "I am afraid of this horse". I have no use for them or green posts or barbed wire. To break in a saddle the first thing to do is soak the stirup leather and fender in water and twist it and let it dry so your foot will go into the stirip without having to bang the horse to get your foo in. A real custom saddle will already have the stirup leather twisted and laced facing back. Saddle soap and pure neatsfoot oil will keep it looking good and supple

I too have 3 Filson wool vests! I’m a Filson snob I guess, the vests, 2 tin cloth vests, 2 cruisers, one for riding/packing/ hunting, one for going to town, a wool jacket length cruiser, a shelter cloth duster, tin cloth jacket, tin cloth cap. Unfortunately, they’ve gone through many ownership changes and have lost track of their origins. Love the channel, keep up the good work!

Dear Dewane , thank you so much for introducing this lifestyle which seems to be a whole culture ,personally i am an israeli guy , never rode a horse in my life , my late father had spent his childhood in a farm in Poland , he was quite familiar with it and was wise enough to encourage us the children, to love the beauty of nature and all living things....anyway i am a city dweller so just enjoy the outlook of your views on those posts which are really outstanding and magnificent , wish you and yours all the best 🥰

Discovered you last night. What a treat! Trying to paraphrase what I appreciate about who and what you are. Mmm. . . Authenticity; integrity. Something about your videos drew me in, left me wanti g more. It started with how to make a good cup of coffee. Ironically, my gentleman partner has the same perculater coffee pot he keeps in his camper and we never get it quite right. And about your knowledge you share about horses. It comes from experience and wisdom. It really is all about relationships. Horses are the mirror looking back at ourselves. . . . What have I put into the relationship that is good for the horse? The two videos that really spoke to me so far that I have seen is the one with you sitting on a gray filly that would jerk her head back after you brought it around. She has had a history of bucking people off. You got into relationships with your wife. . And the other was the difference between a horse and a mule. As it stands now, I have my doubts I would get across the 1st creek with a mule. Horses have been a life journey for. My "missing link" I'm in my 60's now. It's time I take the driver's seat instead of just be a passenger. I have what it takes. Confidence in my faith in my leader, Jesus Christ, Immanuel. God with us. You pretty much answered my question to you in your answer to the 1st question. I have been trying to figure out where you live. I have been listening hard to see if you give yourself away. Best I can come up with is two locations: Bandera Texas and somewhere near Cody, Wyoming. Like the mountain range behind you there looks like it could be the Absorka mountains going into Yellowstone. Altough I have chosen the"safer" path in life to stay close to my roots in west Tenneessee, my true heart and soul is the greater Yellowstone area. I have worked in Yellowstone National Park for a summer season 3 times in my life, 20 and 10 years apart. My 1st summer was 1987. I respect your grit and tenasity to do what you did your 1st year in 1992. I also respect your family back in Kentucky, especially your in laws, who must've believed in you. That helps. In my case, being a single woman who was raised by an over protective father, who strogly influenced me that the world fell off the map west of the Mississippi River. . . . Looking forward to more of your videos. You're messages ring true to my core.

Duane, love these questions sessions! What type of groundwork do you suggest for a 15yr QH mare that hasn't been ridden in a year. She is slightly swaybacked and high withers and a bit spooky
@DryCreekWranglerSchool
@DryCreekWranglerSchool 3 года назад
That’s a tough question to answer, not knowing the mare. For a truly broke horse, a year off really shouldn’t matter much. If she’s a little jumpy, like you say, she might just need a little flag work all over to help de-sensitize her. A bit of circles around you on a lead rope, changing directions several times at a calm walk. Just moving her feet in a calm, controlled manner, NOT the traditional lunging most folks do. Unless there is an actual problem that needs addressed, that’s what I do.

Thank you. My question, I have only rode a horse once and I almost got killed. It tried dumping me off in the middle of a river and I stayed on. I had one leg over the back of the horse and my one hand on the horn. It took off full speed, was trying to rub me off on trees and fences. Took a couple miles until the "guide" caught up and stopped the horse. Can you tell us about all the commands and using the reins/legs to ride a horse. How to back up, stop them erc. Do different styles of riding train these commands differently? I am.thinking of going again next year and trying again. Thanks for your videos.
