Someone may be willing to do what I did to remedy an identical problem I had with my camera. I just bought a camera today at a flea market and had the curtain problem. I simply opened the lens the same as you and took a q-tip lightly damp, not soaking and swireled around under the curtain. It took several tries but I didn't want to saturate that area so I kept the q-tip only damp. It worked, I don't know how long it will last though. I did touch the lens the whole time and it didn't damage it any. This was a $10 camera so keep that in mind. Your method is much better and more thorough but I still thought it was worth the comment. Thanks for your video. It came up while I was looking for a review of my new camera.

Wow great buy. I'm sure quite a few people throw a camera away, just for some silly little thing. And the coolpix is quite a good camera if you are just starting off. Mine cost me about US$90, and that was about 20 years ago 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Still working pretty well.

Yes, most cameras only see limited use, some spend most of thier lives in a drawer. This one had soda or something sticky on the curtain and the alcohol and q-tip did the trick.

I'm sorry for your issue Shxun, but I feel it must be a software issue. I'm not an electronics guy but I imagine there must be some sort of sensor that must tell the software the lens is full out or full in so it stops pulling or pushing, and that might be failing. In my opinion your only option is to take it to a camera service so they check what's going on. Unless some dirt is affecting the software my procedures (in the video) won't help you.

I don't know what you mean by "loose black thing frame". I must say I am not a camera technician. At most, I have a good eye for mechanical workings so I don't dare get my hands on electronics, unless it's a loose wire.

Doraemon, if you have tried all the things I have suggested here, in this video, and nothing works, I believe your only option is taking it to a technician who can take the lens apart or examine the hardware/software.

2 13 23 this vid has opened the door for the possibiiity of repairing my drawer of 7 dsc-w90 cyber shots. they all last maybe a year then the lens starts to stick tele-scoping open or closing. of course i suspect that Sony maintains its sub-optimal design. after all they sell for $300. based on that belief a smarter aproach is to find how to open one up. and locate and ID the fault. plus look for any parts that are worn out . then open the other ones .l get them all sized up . and decide what to do. possibly one or more can serve as a source of parts to re-use. does Sony have a parts dept. for replacement parts for these cameras ? good of you to have made this and posted it
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY Год назад
Thanks Bob, I believe this is one of the best comments I have received in my channel, up to now. In all, these are great cameras considering the price (mine cost about US$100 at the time). I doubt one can get new spare parts for these cameras, so your strategy of switching parts to get one or more working cameras is a great strategy. I wish I knew more electronics, to dig in further, but just with the mechanicals one can do great things.

Hi, what if my lense won’t come out in the first place like yours? When I turn my camera on i hear the mechanism trying to open but nothing happens unfortunately
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 2 года назад
Most probably you have dirt between the lens' barrels. It can help to put the end of your vacuum cleaner just over the barrels to pull out any dirt. Do it on the low level first and increase pull slowly. You don't want to damage the lens with too much vacuum power. As I say in the video I believe this is the best of all options without dismantling the lens.

what to do if the lens wont pop out at all?
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 4 месяца назад
Well, if you have tried all that's in this video, repeatedly with much patience, and nothing happens, I'd take it to be seviced. It might be a software thing, a failed bit of electronics, or a mechanical part is broken. If it's some oversized bit of grit in the lens barrel the mechanism should, at least attempt to open. If it doesn't attempt to open: there is opening noise but the barrel doesn't even tremble, it probably is a broken part, and if it doesn't make any opening noise or tremble, I'd say it is a software issue. However I'm not a camera technician so maybe wrong in all. Sorry I can't offer you further help.

Can I fix my Kodak camera which the lens broke and it's half black in down in the vision.
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 2 года назад
Hi Salekferdous. In my opinion, most of these small cheap cameras, in most cases aren't worthwhile getting repaired by technicians. The repair might be more costly than the camera, or a new one. So if it's old (not covered by warranty) you might as well try and fix it yourself if you believe you have clever, or at least, careful fingers. Many times the fix can be very simple, not a big issue. If you don't trust your fingers, you might find some trustworthy friend willing to take the chance. What can go wrong: you have to buy another camera. If it's an expensive camera, and worthwhile saving, just take it to Kodak repairs and don't risk a worse scenario. Go through this video and others in RU-vid and documents in the Internet, and maybe you'll find possible solutions you can apply. Good luck.

@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 2 года назад
@@ZrixE_69420 Ok, I don't live in a rich country either, but I'm sure you have flea markets where you live, or a facebook group (Recycling, Upcycling, exchange, give-away, etc.) where you can find an old camera of the same model that is not working, free or cheap,, and you can use that to get the replacement you need. Nobody told you to buy a US$45 camera to get replacements out of it, but if it's working it's a cheap camera, compared to other models.

I kinda got it fixed by just putting my nails into the holes for the curtains however, it still has trouble retractin
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY Год назад
@@TheMemeManFromYourDreams It can be software, but there is nothing one can do with that. It can be dust between the barrels and body or dust in the lens curtain. In the video I give some options: vacuum cleaner, blowing, etc., and disassembling the lens curtain. Although it's a different model it might not be too difficult to disassemble. Good luck.

What is that blue water
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 2 года назад
The blue is a reflection, it really is colourless. It's 96° Etyhyl Alcohol. It evaporates quickly so little risk of shock, however, as I say in the video, use with care as it might affect the surface of the lens.

@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY Год назад
When you the lens open does it go smoothly or bounce a bit? Thats a sign of muck in the barrel and the error message might be a response to that. Maybe if you try some of the merhods mentioned in the video, specially using a vacuum will fix the problem. If it's a software or electronic issue I don't have a solution.

Hallo Friend...I have a question for you, and you would be a person far more experienced, so I humbly ask for a simple answer, to a long question... It is regarding 2 hikers found dead in the jungles of Panama, 2014. Their camera was recovered, it was cracked and had water damage. Professionals extracted the images from the memory card or something like that. The last 90 fotos, all were nonsensical and mostly facing the sky, dark of night, heavy rain, 90 consecutive fotos, the final two fotos had 48 minute gap. I contend that the camera and the girls fell off an 8' ledge seen in the fotos, the camera going haywire, jammed into a cycle of snapping pics. The fotos show camera movement/change of views... Which is the vibrating camera on a rounded rock/boulder. Tell me please... Is it POSSIBLE for a dropped camera to react in this way?? There are thousands of people SPECULATING about this mysterious case of two Dutch girls who tragically lost their lives... Thanks!!
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 2 года назад
Wow, what a story. Well, I'm not an expert either. A forensic expert should examine the camera to find the truth. As far as I understand continuous shooting means about 10 shots per second, so most probably all photos should be very similar, specially if the camera jammed in continuous position. It would be illogical that someone falling back off a cliff would be thinking of shooting photos. But, who knows, strange things can happen. As I said, anyone can make hypothesis, a forensic expert should be able to deliver the most probable explanation.

@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 2 года назад
Samsung ES80. If the lens doesn't come out it can be an electronic or software issue or a dirt issue. In the video I detail different options before disassembling the lens. I suggest you try using a vacuum cleaner to pull out any grit stuck between the moving parts of the lens. The vacuum can be very strong so I suggest you act carefully or regulate the strength on the vacuum cleaner. If you don't have a vacuum cleaner, this is the time and excuse to get friendly with the girl next door, or boy, whichever the case.

@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY Год назад
Hi, Andrie. Regretfully I have never dissassembled that part of the camera. If you can open that part and you find a loose wire and can guess where it should be soldered and have the right tools, maybe you can fix it. Any other fix, maybe even changing the flash bulb might require high electronic skills and knowledge. WARNING: Flash bulbs work with the accumulation of high voltage (capacitors) and I understand you must earth that voltage before even touching those parts. It is a serious risk.
