My mother told me to get the fuck off of every Harley I ever owned up until her death in 2006. I usually listened to her but not when it came to my bikes. Been riding Harleys since 1984 and still riding them today. I do wish that I had held onto at least one of my Shovelheads though. Looks like I’ll have to buy another one. They just have such a great sound.
@@363.2McMasterskick back is no joke. I don’t even ride but my friend had one and let me try to start it. Never felt a pain as specifically placed as that. I got it started though after a few more tries.
@@haewoodj.bloughmiebrother u nailed it. Never felt a pain as specifically placed as that 😂 so damn true. The only one that comes close is when I opened my shed during a storm and the wind blew it shut on me. The door knob has a 3/8" bolt sticking out roughly 2" which nailed me rite on my rib.. it took me down and I swear to God I thought my wife shot me because she was yelling "checking on me lol" and I said u dirty bitch u shot me😂 oh the shame in that story is real. Take care my friend never trust kick starters, door knobs but mainly neve ever trust your wife
I’ve only kickstarted a little Suzu 400, some old fella friend told me I was doing it unsafe and that I needed to come over and learn on his old bikes. Then the prick died so I missed my chance forever. He scared me so bad “yeah I got my panther because the owner broke his leg starting it” whaaat?
the number of kicks necessary to get the bike started is exponentially proportional to the number of people standing around and watching... proven scientific fact...
If your gonna try it this way make sure you lock your leg when kicking downwards so if it jumps back up you get a fun bounce up instead of a backwards kneew
All true, add don’t turn the switch on until you’re primed and ready at tdc for max compression. then turn the switch at the top of the kick. Gives you a hotter start.
When you get it to the bottom you hold it down there's a release mechanism that separate the two gears stops are from kicking back throwing your knee and breaking your nose or throwing you with handlebars
A guy once asked for a go on my Honda cr500, after 10 minutes and total exhaustion I said you can’t ride what you can’t start 😂, he walked away defeated back to his four stroke with decompressor 😂
Try 2 kicks to prime, turn ignition on, enricher on, an kick without dicking with the throttle. They all have their own starting sequence that they like and if you deviate from it you’ll just end up pissed and tired 😂
I remember those days well. There were some tricks to help, like when the carb flooded from too many failed attempts. I kept waiting for this guy to do one but he never did.
I've totaled 2 helmets, 1/4 gouges across the bottom of a full face. Doesn't look like he spends alot of time riding though. Maybe shin guards? Leg braces may come in more handy for protection
Classic rookie. When you jump up, you have to keep weight on the foot that's making contact with the kick starter. If you watch you see his foot lift at the apex of the jump each time, until the last successful one where he keeps contact. Funnily people will do it the right way after a few failed attempts as their leg gets tired haha, exactly like what happened here.
When I was starting my chopper for the First time, I kick started and broke the lever on the first kick. My dads last famous word, "now keep her alive every minute and Don't stall it." Ofcourse I replaced it with some pipe I found and welded it to the piece that was still inside.
