Hello, Shiny Crafty People! Welcome back to the channel.
Tim Totten here and today we're going to add fabric to a store-bought towel to make a super fast gift! This one went to my mom, who loves dogs, but I've made some with superhero fabrics for another friend and a towel with Jack Skellington fabric (from Nightmare Before Christmas) as a gift for my son this last Christmas.
This is an easy task that anyone who can sew a straight line can do!
Here's what you'll need:
1 store-bought towel
1/8 - 1/4 yard of accent fabric
Matching thread
Sewing machine
Scissors or rotary cutter
Pins or clips
This is a quick 15-minute project that creates a personalized gift that is perfect for many occasions.

Have fun making this cool towel upgrade and, until next time, stay crafty!

Hi, I’ve been larking from you since MASK making. I have 2 brother sewing machines but want a Janome. Can you recommend one that won’t break my bank? Thank you. I’ve also ordered the acrylic mask templates from you twice .

The first day I got my rotary cutter I dropped it on my foot and wound up in the ER with stitches. But it didn't stop me. Lol

Very cute idea... and great video on how to make them. Thank you! A quick tip... you can use small pieces of Stitch Witchery to help hold the folds and fabric in place before sewing!

I find I need to pre wash everything first to eliminate shrink and dyes bleeding..red will bleed terribly.

Great tutorial! On the corners I find if I use a little spray starch and iron in the miter and clip it, by the time. Get to the machine it will hold the corner without pins!

Just a question......do you need to prewash towel and fabric.
@timothytotten9409
@timothytotten9409 2 года назад
That’s really up to you. I usually prewash when I’m concerned about major shrinkage of the fabrics. So for big quilts I always do. But small projects like this don’t seem to be an issue. At least for me.

Trick for tube turning -sew a piece of yarn into the closed end, lomge rthan your tube, and use that to turn by pulling on the yarn. The yarn then unravels andmcomes right out😮

Nice towels and your friend loves them, I'm sure. I like your simple tip about how to get the edges turned. Thank you for sharing that tip and also thank you for sharing the info about the 505 temporary basting spray.

What model machine do you have? I’ve been looking for a new one.
@timothytotten9409
@timothytotten9409 3 года назад
I use a Janome 1600p. But it’s a straight stitch machine for high speed volume sewing. It lists around $1,150 new. There are plenty of good machines that are cheaper and not designed for the kind of high-intensity and long-duration sewing my company does.

Some basic beginner questions... Are you using a Universal needle or what type is best when working with towels? If sewing fabric on top of hand towels or bath towels that may have more of a nap, do you recommend some sort of stabilizer for smoother sewing? If so, what type and when/how would you use the stabilizer?

When you need a fast gift and just have some fun scraps, this is great! Everyone I know pretty much has all the stuff they need to survive, so making a gift seems to really go a long way, even when it’s as simple as this. Have fun!
