Welcome Shiny, Crafty people! Tim Totten here with sewing projects you can do yourself!
This ridiculously-easy project is part of my ongoing series where we take a store-bought quilt and turn it into easy-to-make projects. Many of these projects are home dec items or great gifts for family and friends.
Years ago, you could find attractive toaster covers all over the place. But today, toasters are available in so many sizes and configurations that finding a cozy is almost impossible! And don't even try to find a pretty cover for any of your other countertop appliances!
Using a store-bought quilt means that for just a few dollars, you can have a customized appliance cover that matches the rest of your decor and fits exactly the way you want!
To make this easy "toaster cozy", you'll need the following:
1 Store-bought quilt (I used a king-size Walmart quilt that cost $29.95 and this is the second project we're getting out of it!)
Scissors or rotary cutter
Straight edge or cutting grid
Binding (either store-bought, or fabric to make it)
Thread
Sewing Machine
The next videos in the series of Store-Bought Quilt Hacks will cover bread baskets, casserole dish covers, runners, storage cases, and more!
Like and subscribe to the channel for more great sewing projects you can do yourself!

Thank-You so ,much for your detailed tutorial. I took my toaster cover apart yesterday, so I have the pattern, but wasn't sure how to put new cover together. You rescued me from making many mistakes. You are appreciated.

Thank you very much your video covered everything. I watched about 10 videos from other people and they didn't cover the measurements and the rounding of the corners.

I don't have a serger so learning the tip about how to do it on a regular sewing machine is just what I needed! Especially since I can never get that 'zigzag stitch method' to work out right (probably just me and I'm new to sewing so there is that lol).

I watched this video multiple times before starting my project. I was asked to make an "Air Fryer" cover for a friend. This was the same concept. It turned out fairly well for my first time with the headache being only while doing the binding "around the round corners". I believe if I have to make more covers, I will get better at it AND I will use this video for help. Thank you Tim.

Absolutely LOVE your attitude, your instruction and your calm, easy voice! I too am anxious and impatient, so what I do, to not screw things up due to my racing brain, is adjust my speed slider to slow down when sewing binding. When I actually "see" my nice binding, Only because I slowed waaaay down, then it's all worth the pain the butt binding. Kudos to you for the no nonsense, get to the point, sewing style! Love It!

Hi Timothy, Yours was the best explanation of bias vs bolt give in fabric that I've ever heard. I never thought to use a bed quilt but it's already quilted so you can do the assembly & sewing. Thanks a bunch for the great tutorial. I'll be waiting for the next one. BTW, I love teal too which is in my kitchen. 🧡💜💙💚❤

I was looking online to buy a pre-made cover for a non-standard sized appliance and nada. Then I found your video and it's exactly what I needed. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise! When you're explaining your techniques and pointing out tips on what to watch out for, you are reading my mind! And I'm a huge fan of tiny homes and don't like to do housework either, if only my significant other felt the same way :) Any recommendations on where I can find nice pre-quilted fabrics like the one you used here, rather than an entire quilt? My small projects don't need that much fabric.

What about using the overcast foot and overcast stitch if the machine has it? Or your line inside and then zigzag?

@@brookecooley751 He drew a line a little farther out than he needed, then he sewed just inside the line with the straight stitch not on the line, but a little on the inside away from the open edge, then cut it on the outside of the line a little away from it. Hope that helps.
