17:07 like making a burrito?? You have a good sense of joking by the way😂 Man, i really want to see your “assertive face” laughing And….damn!! you hack the problem of dried moss poles. Some plant content creators made it with a bottle in the top of the poles, i think this easier and neat way to make poles moist.
Lol felt like I worked at Chipotle for a min. Thanks, it seriously does work because those dry moss poles are hard to rehydrate. Appreciate you tuning in and laughing with me.
I am a black man that is also a plant enthusiast. It is so refreshing to see someone who looks and sounds like me doing planting videos. Congratulations! Keep up the good work.
I love the look of that DIY pole!! You could use tweezers to gently pull the moss through the mesh partially so it hides the plastic and has a more natural look for your vibe
Very nicely explained, I was skeptical at first, but everything made sense to me, I really liked the way you created the wicking moss pole, I want to try this on my next pole, Thanx for sharing ❣️❣️❣️
Yo! Thanks for the shout out Dave! Your cousins plants were 🔥 especially the massive ghost and the epi pinnatum growing in a tree in the middle of the yard! I need to move to a more tropic zone so I can ditch the poles and take over the yard lmao!
Genius ‼️ what an awesome idea, thank you for sharing 💚🪴 and shout out to your amazing cousin 🙌 what an epic collection of plants and so much talent shows through his fantastic artwork ‼️
Thank you for taking the time to explain about using the cuttings versus a more mature plant for transitioning to moss poles. Im fairly new to houseplants and your semi-hydro system has really piqued my interest. Looking forward to more content.
Love the video! Ya cousins art is fire and the plants too! Imma have to try this moss pole my philodendron silversword outgrew the pole and I need a new solution. Thanks for a great video.
Thank You. The poles are working great (self watering feature) so far in semi-hydro, I highly recommend trying it if you have that set up. Appreciate you tuning in.
Those plants look amazing! 1:37 the blue cactus is a Brazilian species called _Pilosocereus azureus_ and it can grow super tall actually. 2:22 I think the cactus (behind the Pachypodium) is some kind of _Soehrensia candicans_ from Argentina. But the flowers really can tell who the baby daddy is 😉 haha
Hey Dave 😀 I’ve been using all natural charcoal for a while now, but I put it in a smaller plastic bag an bust it up with a hammer. Then you can get the size you want. Cool idea for deft watering moss pole. 💚💚 Hope we get a future update on this. Check out, Sydney Plant Guy moss poles.
Yep old cotton t-shirts sound good if airflow is abundant...if not, dangerous mold can grow on it. I actually like the plant wicking string, since it has polyester for mold resistance. Thank you for tuning in. Appreciate your comments.
Hi Dave :) It was neat to see your cousin's plants....love all those euphorbias and cacti....and his inside climbers too....nice how his art is displayed...congrats on his new baby :)...I have always wanted a peek at his plants since you have always mentioned he sparked your interest not that long ago! Now look @ you all grown up! Making those moss poles! Seriously I like the white moss poles...they do look nice...and like the coco chips added in there...perfect...and your glowing manjula cuttings....looks pretty....great and interesting video and glad you will be back soon! Sending love from MN♡
Thanks again for another knowledge filled video! 😊🌿💚 I truly enjoy and appreciate how thorough you are when explaining. Also your cousins collection 🤌 chefs kiss
Your cousin's plants and art are super dope! I'm so glad that you got to share with us. Also your silver sword philo was looking awesome! I also look forward to seeing a update video on that manjula pothos 💯
Oh no! I think the metal does well for standing up securely in a soil pot. But I must say, the ones I made in this video are working out well for me two weeks later. Thanks for watching.
These seriously have been working for me. The only downside is some people may not want to use a self watering pot or drainless semi-hydro. But the string needs a water reservoir.
Another dope video Dave. I just started making my own poles and saw that white mesh on Amazon. May pick some up and make a couple. Although I feel you on the organic look. Good thing is that once the plant fills out you won't see the mesh.
Try doing this around a real unique NATURALbranch frm a tree. 3xplore outside.. That's what i experimented with. I feel w/ your knowledge you can use your creative and even tek thus to the nxt level🎉jus tap into your knowledge+creativity = i feel you're the buoi that can GET IT DONE❤@@AroidDistrict
Your cousins plant collection was nice and so was his artwork. Thanks for sharing the self watering setup and tips and tricks. My moss poles stay dry. 🙄
Thank you. Sorry bout them dry moss poles, that is annoying. I guess people doing that damn bottle trick, which you cut a hole on the bottle cap and flip upside down on the top of your pole. 🤷🏽♂️
It's not often I get distracted from plants BUT that artwork....Wow! I would be interested in seeing an update of those aroids growing up the Jacaranda Tree. Also I think the new mosspoles are probably the best self-watering ones I've come across so far, so much easier; now if we could just get some clear chicken wire the aesthetics would be far better me thinks. Off to go and check out Mike's IG page now 👋🏃♀️
Thanks Carey, this is my cousins first yr at his house, I'm sure some updating to the plants outdoors will take place and I'll film if I can. I think the clear plastic D shaped moss poles from Amazon look the best, I should just add wicking string to them. Dry crispy moss pole is the most consistent complaint I'm hearing in the plant community LOL.
I wish we could get the clear plastic D shaped poles here but hopefully they'll be here soon. Your cousin has done well for his first year and he has some really nice plants. I wish him well for the future as he is showing lots of potential both with plantcare and his art. It looks like it runs in the family. Please commend him on his artwork for me.
maybe we should all suggest to them factories to make a brown or khaki colored mesh to blend to moss or coco chips color or mimic a more natural woody hue
Lol right! There is actually a plastic material that looks exactly like wood…called “composite”. It’s used for fencing and patio decks. It’s a wrap if they end up making moss holding stakes out of that stuff.
Thank you. I'm not sure which brand the wire is. I did not include any link because I didnt like the look of it later on. I'm sure I just got the cheapest plastic wire in white or translucent color.
Lol if only I could’ve got video from the loft he use to have. You know I rather have a plank or something, but these self watering moss poles are easy for y’all who are getting down drainless 🤣.
Thank you, Wicking string was only used in a few moss poles as a test. I found out that they keep moss hydrated for just a few days longer than without.
Hello i saw your video on selfwatering moss poles. I really like the way that is made. Where did u find the webbing, netting whatever u call it. AMAZON seems the most affordable, is that where u got yours? Any info would be appreciated Thank you karen
You cousin's plants are beautiful and thank you so much for teachingvus about making self-watwringvmoss poles. But I have to agree with you that those grids make the poles look unnatural. You must follow up with how your Majula grows up.
Ooof! The variegated Billie is my DREAM plant!! I love that green thumbs run in the family:) Unfortunately for me, I am literally the only person I know that loves and collects houseplants:( It’s lonely over here lol! Any fellow rare plant enthusiasts near SouthCoast MA, or RI? I am really trying to find some other plant collectors so that I can trade and share some of my more rare plants, and also just to have someone/s local to share my love of plants with. My husband is over listening to me talk about plants every day hahah. I love your content! -Nora Edit: hey- how did your rock art/epiphyte projects end up working out for you?? I loved what you did with those plants!
Thank you! We are the same, because Variegated Billie is my #1 wishlist plant. I understand you on how lonely it gets, part of the reason I made a plant channel lol. I was thinking maybe a Facebook plant group from another nearby major city can bring you more social activity with the hobby.
I have one of billietiae variegated, it’s not as easy as we think to take care of the this plant. Cause sometimes the leaf are full block varigated but sometimes the leaf comes with no variegation :( Thats why the price is still high because the varigation is not stable, we must calculate the lights and pot media with low fertilizing. Great from Indonesia🫱🏼🫲🏾🪴
@@Hadinata1994 it’s so gorgeous, I’d definitely risk reversion if I can find one, even a cutting, that I can afford!!! They are so unattainable for a regular person like me. Maybe I’ll win the lottery🤷🏻♀️
Decent idea but you could’ve used less moss and coco chunks by eliminating the first step. Adding the string straight down the middle would’ve been enough. I’m speaking from my experience. I’ve done the same exact thing using the white/clear zip-ties and white chicken wire. The other downside is the string will soak up too much of the nutrient leca water… unless you’re not using leca nutrients. That being said great job thank you for sharing. I thoroughly enjoy your videos.
Well I've heard and believe that Spider mites can live and lay eggs within any wood including within your house walls during cold months. I'm sure moss can harbor pest too, which is why you should sterilize and reuse it.
DO THEY CLONE MEN LIKE YOU???A man like you is the dream of mi life. 😢. BLESS UP TO YOUR FAMILIA always. JAH is in control. Keep your faith. Do the work. And u good. 😅
I’ll be discussing plants the same way…! What’s your favorite; “some basic bitches right now” 🤣 because the special ones are stress baskets. Is it gonna die, revert, etc. Pain in the ass
I love watching black men as plant collectors. It's a big F you to all the stereotypes. I want to start switching to lechuza pon, but just haven't yet.
