This month on ICC Cricket 360, Australia legend Adam Gilchrist explains the logic behind the famous 'squash ball in the glove' technique, which he famously employed in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup final to help him smash 149 off 104!
@@JY-ev5ms Lol. What do you mean by selfish fraud? He always played for his team instead of his personal records. Gilchrist is overhyped keeper. Sangakkara was great WK- batsman.
@@rishabt1401 Lol. You thought I am Dhoni fan? I just told a truth and you got triggered. For your kind information, I am not fan of a single player only. I like all players of Indian Team. You seems to be most delusional guy. Can Gilchrist do fast and accurate keeping like Dhoni? Simple answer : NO. He is famous because he is known for his batting not for his keeping skills and I was talking about keeping skills. Read my comment before talking shit.
@@rishabt1401 Delusional man you got the point wrong! I am talking about "KEEPING SKILLS". As I said Gilchrist is not as accurate keeper as Dhoni and you started talking about Batting skills. As I already said Gilchrist is famous because of his batting skills and Dhoni is famous because of his keeping and finishing skills. Name a keeper who is faster and more accurate keeper than Dhoni. I am not comparing batting skills. I am just talking about keeping skills.
Adam Gilchrist yavatidru Legend. Gilly avarige yavaglu nanna hrudayadali stana ide. Translation : Adam Gilchrist is always a legend. Gilly will forever in my heart.
I don't know if it's cheating or not but from what he showed it seems pretty uncomfortable to hold the bat with a squash ball inside your glove... He says it allows his tophand to dominate his shots but really with one hand I really wonder...that too throughout the whole innings...it can put a lot of strain on your wrist and forearm if they are not strong....when you are hitting a 145-150k ball with one hand the bat will Turn on your wrist and that is where the strain factor comes in....
the squash ball basically helps you in putting less pressure from your bottom hand. I mean even less pressure from the bottom hand works equivalent to high pressure because of the grip strength squash ball creates. So basically you are putting the bat really well in the line using your top hand and simultaneously generating great strength with your bottom hand, when actually you are not because now the squash ball is working.
How is this illegal? Looks perfectly within the laws. Not outside them, at least. Moreover, if this is illegal then remove arm bands, head bands , towels and everything else. They must also be illegal then.
The funniest thing is the main institute which leads cricket tries to point out this is legel. What if this damn ball put on Sanath Jayasurya's palm and hit sixes?
The whole point of squash ball is stop the bottom hand taking control of shots. Gilchrist is right hand dominant in everything else. He wanted his top hand (the right hand) to control his shots not bottom hand (the left hand). His coach developed the idea to losen the grip of left hand so the top hand would dominate the shots. Now after that explanation if you still dont get it, you are dumb.
It helped him lessen the grip on left palm by lot and he developed to generate power from one hand... this is key for successful batters and hitters..ultimately it is just about training your brain and rewiring.. I just loved Gilchrist.. i do not think there has been a as devastating batter as Gilchrist.. other was Jayasurya..
54,57 and 149 .. Three world cup finals .. Strike rate above 150 in every final..Show me the best record than this .. The Greatest ever played this game..
Sandpaper changes the shape and condition of the ball, allowing reverse swing to be possible even during the 30-35-over stage. On the other hand, a squash ball merely restricts some risky strokes and encourages the batsmen to focus more on a specific type of shots, especially hitting over the top. How do you even compare the two is beyond me. A better example would be bowlers using mint or some other gum to shine the ball on one side and eventually make it swing prodiguously. This technique has been used by bowlers for ages and is considered legal (albeit a few substances to achieve the results are banned though)/
So what if he had the gloves specially made so that it had that lump. If a batsman were to walk out there with a microphone stand he would be allowed. This is no different to some wicket keepers or batsmen using thinner gloves under their exterior gloves
In cricket it is illegal to use foreign objects to enhance performance. Yet Gilchrist got away with it just because of he is an Aussie. I have seen people penalized for using sand papers, sand, bottle caps, chewing gum... Then why not squash ball...?
@@valavanchandran8573 read the laws of cricket first no foreign object is allowed on the field.. Why they need squash ball to play cricket? Its illegal...Did he take permissions from icc or from oppenent captain before using it?... Does sqaush ball acts as guard? No right...
@@sumith8918 you are an absolute idiot. Why dont you try putting squash ball in your glove and see if it enhances your batting and see if its legal or not.
He cheated before he was using squash ball inside his glove when batting during the World Cup final 2007 Score was 10 match 304 Runs Including 2-50s. Cheating is cheating.
Any foreign object that is used to enhance performance should be made illegal. A bowler cannot use foreign objects like bottle top, sandpaper, lozenge etc to enhance performance. Well, neither should a batsman.
Imagine if a pakistani player have done the same thing. He would have face a life time ban or at least one year ban. But an australian player has done that and they are treating him like inventor. This is clearly an act if unfair means. #Racist ICC #Double standard ICC
Aziz Khan - You are clearly ignorant of the laws of cricket. Go through them and post here where exactly this contravenes any law. When you have done that, search the web for anywhere where a player from SRL or the rest of the world's teams has criticised this. I'll wait...
Foolish act..breaking the laws of cricket..it makes easy to bat on bailey z the other Aussie player juss backing him up, admiting fake discomfort playing with it
Jedidiah Daniel it does not matter. We are prone to injustice wether we done something wrong or something right. Reverse swing was ball tempering when wasim and waqar was using it to distroy your batting line up. But when you learn it the same ball tempering became an art. Now your bowlers are unable to bowl dosra so it is illegal bowling action. When your bowlers will learn it the same illegal delivery will become magic.
@@AzizKhan-yt4xc muralidaran is the only bowler who has bowled doosra with a normal action(due to his peculiar ability rotate his hands at his shoulder). Everyone else..saqlain, Bhajji, Ajmal..have all benefited from the leniency. Bhajji and Ajmal became very ordinary bowlers after that. How about acknowledging the level of corruption in your board and your culture as well.
@@AzizKhan-yt4xc Dude, dosra has been never been illegal. It's the bowlers who bent their arms more than acceptable parameter were banned, which happened to certain SA and Pakistani bowlers. Wasim/Waqar never destroyed Australian batting line up. Pak won only one test match in last 30 years in Aus, which refutes your claim. Also, for ball tampering, Aus banned their two best batters for one year. Pak brought back a criminal fixer Amir back to team who spent 5 years in jail. Stop giving lecture about cricket to Australia.
Lol if a player from any Asian country did this, the Aussies would have gone to the match referee and tried to label them a cheat. But an Aussie does it, so it's labeled genius. The fact that he put a foreign object in his glove to help him grip his bat when he was out of form, is a massive leverage and should NOT have been allowed.
From what little I understand of physics, this doesn't make much sense, because I'd think the decompression of the ball would make him lose control over the shot. But then again, I never played cricket in my whole life...
Most hated team from 99-2010. Everyone was so jealous of them and their unbeaten success. Even if those Aussies players took long breathe. People would have said Look Aussies player taking all the Oxygen and our players becoming weak. 😂😂
I don't think so. The squash ball does NOT add any power nor does it enhance his strength. He basically used it as a device to allow him to concentrate on using his top hand and play straight and cut some other risky shots. So, technically, what he did is legal. However, I am not an ICC rule expert and I do remember that there was a minor inquiry into this matter in 2007.
@@TheBasedDudeActually, Adam Gilchrist said the opposite. He said he wanted to lower the grip and be more bottom handed so he can play straight. I am not batting expert, just quoting from the detailed interview in ESPN Cricinfo. Gilchrist said that in the 2007 World Cup, prior to the final, Gilchrist was not able to make big scores as he was getting out cutting, pulling and hooking. So, he wanted to eliminate a part of his strokes that increased his chances of getting out driving through the off. Hence, he used the squash ball in his glove to ensure he avoided such strokes.
Anshul Srivastava dear plz dont mind . today's cricket is just like kids cricket as compare to old era , at that time there bounderies were so big , no bouncers limit , no powerplay , no review , no free hit , there were green wickets . no doubt virat khohli is greatest but as compare to all time is definetly not. Plz see the greatest viv richards, sunil gavasker, david gower , martin crow, majid khan, zaheer abbass , javed miandad, sachin tendulkar, then Adam gilchrist, ricky ponting, jacq kallis, brain lara, arvinda de silva, virendar sehwag, inzmam ul haq and many others are far better than virat kohli ...... I hope u can't mind .
