I understand the moral objection but, to be honest, a select few people called the church (not all but the majority) cannot dictate what one person can and cannot do when it comes to personal choices. We know that these same people are the vote banks for the politicians who keep the promise of not uplifting the ban and we come back to square one. The slogan of "Nagaland for Christ" has really held back Nagaland from reaching its potential because people cannot tell the difference between a Christian majority state and a full-fledged Christian state. I also don't trust the Govt of Nagaland to implement the rules if liquor was to be legalized because they do a piss poor job at almost everything from top to bottom. When a proper leader comes in I will be optimistic about the liquor situation but as of now you yourself can see NL10 cars lined up in Assam. My personal opinion is that it should be legalized for financial reasons as well as to make a statement to certain groups that idealism and reality have to meet in the middle for society to function. We think everything is fine just cause we aren't hearing of cases of alcoholism but it is such a taboo subject that families and people want to save face and not talk about it or even ask for help. Also, the "sunflower" drug is spreading like wildfire. Soon enough there's going to be all sorts of drugs introduced to the youth but nothing will change because of "Nagaland for Christ" and "Naga Sovereignty". The bigger question is who is bringing in all of these drugs? You already know. I appreciate that the host and guest have the balls to talk about this issue even if it's from a monetary POV. The conversation needs to be had and the older generation needs to understand that it's not 1960 anymore. My statements are not politically correct but someone needs to call a spade a spade.

Agree with you on your points. I’ve talked about the other aspects of it in previous episodes as well. The moral, health issues etc. This episode I wanted to focus on the economic factor since the guest was directly related to that field. You’ll find my discussion on NLTP in the episodes with Dr. Michael and also Khriemelie.

NLTP should be revoked by maintaining certain regulations because it's obvious that Nagaland is only 20% dry state and that is losing our revenue & employment in certain ways. Even the closer of shops on Sunday only gain Assam. All the public can be seen shopping over there, NLTP and latter is done because of church and public organizations it is not helping at all. As long as we live on earth we have to be practical.

Make it legal and formulate firm regulations like not drinking /getting drunk in public places , strict actions against those causing troubles to others or even in neighborhood etc.

And this is just the revenue from tax. 200 Crores is being on the lesser side for sure, let’s not forget our consumption per capita. The opportunities it will generate in terms of direct and indirect employment through retail, sales and distributorship. And whether, NLTP exists or not, the packs run wild. Better order than chaos.

True. It could be higher than 200 Cr if consumption per capita is taken into account. And also, the rate of taxes may be increased by the State govt in which case again the revenue could further increase

Government has to calculate the cost- effect analysis while making a decision. Even if the government is getting a lot of tax, government could be losing many human resources( especially the youths), health of the people will become worst if alcohol is available freely on the market. Most important should consider the moral effect especially nagaland being a Christian dominate state. One example of cost- effect analysis is sports. Government spend lots of money on sports even if they don't give any return because through sports youths are more health and ultimately helping the economy of a state grow.

There should be a distinct separation between the church and the Govt

In an ideal society, no way... Your approach is Utopia, woke liberal fantasy. Religion and government are glued, secularism Or not but it has and will continue to do so.

Government is going to lose a lot of youth resources and labour resources which is an important part of economy, tax isn't the only sight but too view the health, death rate, working stamina hours, way that will allow immigration employment not local employment and household income will drop tremendously.

I'll skip being diplomatic, there is not a single advantage to this NLTP act. If you can name one, fight me.

To believe that that 200 cr would be a great help to the state’s development, you must trust the government a lot!!
@ShoutOutMediaYT
@ShoutOutMediaYT 2 года назад
That is definitely not the point of this discussion. Regardless of how the 200 crore may be used by the govt., look at the bigger picture, it is at least filling up our state coffers rather than pockets of Assam and the illegal bootleggers. Even if only a few crores out of that 200 crores is used for real development, we are still benefiting. ✌🏻
@sashiwapang
@sashiwapang 2 года назад
Just to repeat what Asalie has explained, the point was to gauge how much revenue Nagaland might be losing out on - which is going to Assam and the bootleggers and in the context of us depending on the central govt for 90% of our budget requirements.

@@ShoutOutMediaYT As you discussed, from revenue perspective alone, your points are well taken. I used ‘you’ as a general term, not to the podcast specifically (I suppose ‘one’ should have been the right word!).

200cr approx if utilized honestly can be of huge benefit for the ppl of Nagas. But with the present scenario of political leaders... I dont care how much revenue we get.
