Thank you....I'm stuck in Missouri in a Hotel room, 13 degrees, I can't get my car Ive owned two days to start, a 74 Chrysler......I watched the video, walked next door to a gas station, bought starter fluild, first time I've ever used this and it worked!!!! Thanks, I'm on my way now!
A Chrysler Newport Custom, bright red four door hardtop with a Halo style Cream color vinyl roof!...she's a beauty!...and again, thanks on the video, I was able to drive all the way home in the freezing cold knowing the car would start fine with the spray of starting fluid.
Some people see this and think it's useful information but others didn't grow up around cars and aren't mechanics this little bit of information is so helpful to people who don't know cars well.
Hey this was really cool, Aaron, thank you. I really learned exactly what I need to know. Thank you for making the demonstration clear and simple to follow.
TheNeonRabbit sadly it was all hacked to bits when i bought it. still looking at getting a patch plate to weld into the dash to put a retro factory looking radio back into it mp3/usb input on the back of the unit. but wont be doing that until i rip the interior apart and rebuild it.
1:55 uuhhh, I think your air cleaner cover is on upside-down. The manifold heat stove isn't going to draw in any air through the snorkel connection if the cleaner is all open like that!
Alexander Riccio yes the air filter hat is upside down, and that was done to allow a little more air flow thru to the carb for a bit better perfoemance, and it acts no differently than the old school 2 piece air filters for these where you just have a top and bottom plate to sandwich the filter in between.
Alexander Riccio um, well at that moment it was just vented to atmosphere, thru a tube, i have next to zero blow by so didnt want to purchase a filter house for the factory valve covers. this spring it getting new valve covers, intake manifold, air filter housing, headers, and some small performance parts and will be getting propercrank case breather/filter. but during the winters the hat gets flipped back to normal for he heat risers to do their job, and to have warmer air sucked into the intake, it was originally flipped upside down for a 500 mile road trip i was taking it on with a flatdeck and wanted every little bit of power booting i could get.
I have the same setup on my 84 datsun pickup, just afraid I'd suck some trash into my new carb I just installed, think I'll leave my air filter cover on right side up lol - I get why you did that though.
just fix your fuel problem,it probably has a stuffed fuel pump or it is bleeding back for some reason getting air into the system, or fix your automatic choke,or use a thimble full of petrol, some chokes have winter setting that you have to set it to, also make sure the preheat tube is connected to the exhaust manifold. don't take short cuts that cause bigger problems down the track.
you don't have to remove the air cleaner lid. You can spray the starting fluid directly into the nozzle-intake and the vapors will take care of the rest. Remember starting fluid evaporates in no time. (**By the way you're the first person I've seen who put the air cleaner lid on upside down. Sort of defeats the purpose of keeping dirt & dust out of the carb. My dad might have done it once or twice in years gone by but it was out of haste or absentmindedness. Funny!). Thanks for the vid, I enjoyed it.😊
On our 1971 Ford grain truck with a 2 barrel carburetor I am spraying starting fluid directly into the butterfly and it is in the open position, but the starting fluid is just running out from somewhere in the carburetor, rather than getting into the intake manifold. What would cause that?
Was the butterfly vertical when you tried to crank it? Have you ever used carb cleaner to start the engine? I heard carb cleaner works better for the engine.
Holding the gas to the floor defeats the purpose of the choke as you are letting more air into the engine with the gas pedal floored. I’m thinking it would start better with 1/4!throttle on a cold engine after two or three pumps of the gas pedal. 🤷♂️
reason why this video has alot of dislikes is because starter fluid damages your engine for an example it happen to me for watching this video but search it up on google be aware what you do Yet others won't touch starting fluid. ... Diesel engines, too, can suffer the effects of starting fluid. Their high compression can cause the fluid to ignite too early, effectively causing pre-ignition, which invites all kinds of problems, like catastrophic piston or rod damage.
CELICA BERTOCCHI yes when its fairly cold out here the throttle need pumping to feed it enough gas to atomize and bur correctly till the carb has warmed up.
+Rip Hick hmm, could be a sticking float or dirty jets, Another thing i had realized when diagnosing a fuel issue in my 78 gmc motorhome, had to keep it running off a bottle in the carb, pump and filter were new on it and would spray gas out the line when cranking, turns out one of my fuel lines had a very small crack in it and was allowing the line to suck air in after it started and wouldnt run. And these square bodies are known for the rubber lines at the fuel diverter for the dual tanks to get dry and cracked. May want to give those and all other rubber lines a check
+No1Goddess naw, the small fire ball isnt bad at all, all it means is the engine had a backfire thru the intake valve. Nothing to worry with that. Best thing to do if that happens again is while it ls "on fire" put the throttle to the floor and crank the engine over. 99% of the time that will snuff out the flame. Than try agaim
Aaron's Vlogs Thank you for this video! -When that fire happened, thats what made me look up "how to spray starter spray" and i found your video, lol. Actually, after watching your entire video, i realized i had sprayed the starter spray in the wrong area (i sprayed it all over lol). Once I did exactly what u demonstrated, it started right up! Yaaaaaaaay! That lil fire scared the mess outta me tho! 😨😨😂😂😂
Hey Aaron , I’m Aron in Texas I to own an 1984 1500 High Sierra GMC I’m working on…this video is years old , do you still recommend I do this ??.🤔🤔 you got rid of your GMC limo the next year
Got rid of the "limo" due to a cracked block from water freezing inside of it, starting fluid has no I'll effects on gasoline engines. I still use it to this day on all my other older engines.
@@AaronsAutomotive i was able to crank it right away! I just swapped the valve covers and installed a new air cleaner system! Currently we are experiencing a cold front we went from 75 degree weather yesterday I flushed the old coolant to 35 degree that’s cold for us here in Houston 🥶 I’m going to keep restoring
@@AaronsAutomotive now that you experienced the cracked motor …what would you have done different? I was draining all the old fluids but didn’t get a chance ho replace the coolant . What I did is just disconnect all the hose hopefully this help not freeze and crack the block …any suggestions?
Starting fluid dries everything up and can cause engine damage so if it must be used, it should only be after a few attempts of trying to crank it first without bleeding down the battery of course, then spray a short half second burst, just once into the carburetor and try again, repeat if needed. Two 3 second bursts is way too much, too fast. It works much better with a diesel engine. The fluid kept me from being stranded many times so always have a can with you just in case.
Where the heck do you live that a small can of starting fluid cost $9? I just paid $1.87 for a can twice as big from Walmart here in Ohio. (I see this is from 2-3 yrs ago, maybe it's gone down since then?)
yeah mine is bad too. i'm switching to an electric fuel pump and she hopefully starts a lot better! if not i have a blown 383 stroker that my dad used to use for the mud drags. then she'll be a real beast!
@@jonbertocchi173 I have no clue what u meant by that and I have a feeling you didnt either lol. The ac switch has nothing to do with fuel delivery...just like pumping pedal with no engine movement, it's all smoke and mirrors. The only way to get fuel to carb is engine spinning, drives fuel pump. Fact
