I have lived with Misophonia for close to 50 years, and why I chose to produce and direct a documentary on the disorder. The literal translation of Misophonia is "hatred of sound", and while that's not entirely true, there are specific sounds that set off a physiological response, including, but not limited to: a rapid heart rate, an adrenaline dump, anxiety, and sometimes rage. There is no involvement of the conscious mind; you cannot logically think your way out of the reaction. Producing, directing, shooting, and editing "Quiet Please..." was not only a life-changing experience for me, but I've also received hundreds of emails from around the world thanking me for giving sufferers a voice. The goal of the film to convey the emotional and psychological impact of this disorder, and to help others realize that they are not alone.
The film has been released on iTunes, Vimeo, Google Play, and Amazon, here's the website with all the links: www.quietplease...

I'm glad to see a documentary for this! Now I have something to show and prove to people I'm not a crazy bitch. I remember really clearly the memory of my first bad trigger incident. I was about four of five years old, in the truck with my mother. She was chewing gum and making these little popping sounds with it...I just started to tremble and punched the dash board as hard as I could... boy did I get in some serious trouble!! It would get so bad when I was young I literally would go to my room and claw at my arms or throw anything in sight. I've learned how to physically calm my actions, but I still turn into the meanest person when I am triggered...insulting my family members and all that:/ I hate being that Jekyll and Hyde person.

Once again, I can relate to everything you wrote as well; it changes who you are as a person, and that is what I hate most about misophonia. I know I'm a good guy at my core, but when I'm tired and stressed and there's a wall of sound, I become someone whom I don't like. It's important to surround yourself with compassionate people, but everyone has a breaking point; miso affects those around us as well, and I try to be cognizant of that all the time.

Mischief Maker people never really understand it. I can never relax around any other people. I never eat with anyone. If some is chewing gum I literally want to kill them. I don’t go out to dinner I don’t go to movies and I can’t go to any social activities. No one everyone takes it seriously and sometimes the try to trigger you if they think it’s funny. They think you can just ‘deal with it’ you can’t. And how are you supposed to tell people you stop chewing gum or what ever their doing? It’s not like they are doing anything wrong. For me if someone who knows I have it is the one making the noise it is so much worse than strangers. I can’t even look at people and even a memory can make me mad enough to scream. It sometimes takes me hours to calm down.

Iman Jamjoum I’m sorry you’re going through that, and that’s why many sufferers don’t share that they have misophonia. The link to the films website is in the description; it may help you to read the letters that I’ve received over the past few years regarding the film’s impact. I hope things get easier for you.

I have an industrial-grade case of misophonia, usually triggered by neighbors making loud clangs or bangs. Then, I accidentally move right next to an outdoor hockey rink because I'm an idiot.. Gotta love that sound of the puck slamming to the rink walls every 3 seconds, all day, every day. The thing about misophonia is that it consumes so much energy, but people around you have no idea what you're going through. My mom still thinks this is something I'm just making up. And I keep telling her I literally can't do anything because I just focus on the noise, and when it stops, I just wait for it to start again. Bless you guys, stay strong. The only thing that really helps is to get away from the noise. If it's your neighbors, move immediately.

I can't believe what I just watched, all these years all alone with that, since I'm a little kid I live that, I just can't believe it's actually SOMETHING and that I'm not alone wow I need to see this documentary and show that to my mother to make her understand this bad behavior I had about this all my childhood. I'm kinda shocked right now

I’m 54. My whole life from around the age of puberty has been tainted with this condition. Only heard the word misophonia in 2016 during a radio show phone in. I cried like a baby. This is a condition that ruined so many of my relationships, especially with those nearest and dearest to me. Many times I wished I was dead and it is probably the reason I prefer to be on my own, thankfully I am now married to a wonderful woman who completely understands how it affects me.

Glad to see that I’m not the only one to struggle with this. It brought tears to my eyes. I’ll be showing people this if they do not understand my everyday struggles. People often joke about it, or overlook this. It’s always “it’s all in your head!”. It’s not.

Every place I've lived has been a battle. Roommates' or neighbours' sounds of daily living on top of construction noise or aircraft flying over my apartment has sent me over the edge and affected so many areas of my life, including precious sleep. The search for a completely sound-proof apartment continues but seems like a pipe dream. Being HSP on top of this doesn't help.

I suffer from misophonia, but I have known this for decades. My noise issues are tied to my ptsd. I also suffer from photophobia. Multiple sounds will drive me crazy, but I have learned to control my environment. My husband has learned too - which is tough because he is half-deaf. OMG - men are noisy. Mankind is noisy and it's effects are dramatic. When I cannot control or shut out the noise I become extremely anxious and irritable. Apartment living has be brutal for the last 2 years - tons of noise. Edit: THC/CBD has helped to keep me calm.

I'm 18 year old and today i found out that this is actually a disease. I don't want to say this but I'm happy that I'm not the only one suffering from this deadly thing. When j was very little i started feeling this by sound of snoring of my dad. And then many many more sounds triggered my anxiety and misophonia. How can i tell my mom and dad that there sounds and certain voices makes me sick? How a child is supposed to say that.

I’m in the same situation, im 17 years old today. It all started when i was 6-7 years old I had this problem with my older sisters that “hum” songs not very loud but a bit not in sync with music playing on the radio. At first i remember asking them to stop or to lower their voice so in response they would do it louder... it was pure torture. It’s actually one of the few things that I remember from this age. And since then, it kept getting worse, i cant support hearing chewing sounds. I try to ignore it but nothing help.. When i ask my younger brother to eat with his mouth closed, he just make more noise to annoys me... I can’t take this and I’m about to flip. I just searched today about this topic and discovered that it is a disorder or something like that. That frustrates me even more that my family just tell me to shut up and to “stop being so dramatic” about that and even worse they start making noise just to trigger me when i ask them politely to stop chewing with their mouth open or to stop chewing so loud. I would like to be normal lol but i can’t do nothing about that but yet nobody seems to understand or even care...

@@user-ln8ko7df7p show them what the disorder is really like and show them that it is actually a medical condition or better yet go to the doctor so your family know its serious. I am 59 this month. And since puberty..say 15 yrs old, I have had this inner rage that builds up. People eating loudly, open mouthed, or slurping soup or tea is my main trigger. I have actually been close to punching some men-who have done it even more to annoy me for a laugh. As a 6ft 5in ex amateur boxer from my youth-I know its wrong. But "in the moment" I pictured in my mind breaking a nose or jaw. its only a matter of time before court cases begin where misophonia is stated as a reason for violence or harm. Power tools and pneumatic drills, or loud music in shops actually STOP my thinking? I literally cannot filter the sounds out,and ignore them! I once was so mad and angry in my local mini mart-as the radio blasted out screechy, auto tune, commercial music, with some stupid bitch "Singing" (HaHa more like wailing) that I was UNABLE to add up 3 items in my trolley. So enraged, I went over to the CD/RADIO blaring away-and yanked it outta the wall, snapping the wire by the wall plug end! Then I looked at a confused security guy shouting "TUFF SHIT MATE..I came here to shop, not fkin boogieI cant hear myself think here, your NOT ON dude ok?" 2 other people clapped me from behind shelves! It turns nice ppl , into The Hulk kinda personalities! And WE cant bloody help it man! Watch out in the courts..cases WILL come along. Mark my words people!

It's all in your head. You need better self-control. I don't like the sound of nails on a blackboard either, but it doesn't make me want to hit someone. Everyone has sounds they don't like --nobody likes to hear a baby cry. Why can't you handle it better? I know smacking sounds are a pet peeve of yours. PET PEEVE? I wish people could experience misophonia for just one day so they can understand the depth of your body reaction. It's NOT a pet peeve. It's the desire to punch you in the face as hard as I can, or to run away as fast as I can. That is so much more than I consider a pet peeve.
