'working on my first ornament. I should finish it tomorrow if I have the embellishments I want to use! I couldn't press those pins in with my bare fingers or thumb; I used the end of a fine point Sharpie CAP! Worked fine, but a thimble might be better. I bought a fat quarter pack from Wal-Mart for less than $6.00. I think I will be able to get 2 eggs from this! My first one won't be as pretty as yours, but I think it's looking pretty good! Thanks SO much to you 'Ornament Girl'. Your story is heart-warming! I am so happy for your success with all of your hard work and sacrifices. Yours is an American Dream story for sure! It's so nice to hear that you have been able to hire others to work while growing your business! Keep up the good work! I wish you much happiness and continued success. An afterthought.. These ornaments, depending on the fabrics used, are great decor for anytime of year. I plan to get ornament display hangers (or DIY them) to display them on a shelf or table! (Would also be great gifts for friends using Sports logo fabrics; gaming characters; cartoon figures; or photos on fabric for the snow globe eggs. Well, my minds running away....
I used to make Christmas ornaments similar to this years ago and figured out that you can remove the 'under pins' once they are covered up by the next row and it saves pis. I never had any of mine fall apart doing this. I might try my hand at the eggs shaped ones soon TFS!
What a fun project! You just came into my feed and so glad you did! I am a quilter so I have a lot of fabric and soooo going to do this project. I am now a new subscriber.
Okay I made the egg you showed in this video!🤗 it came out beautiful! At first I didn’t think I could’nt do it but, it’s so easy! Please show more tutorials on the other egg you showed. The ones where the fabric is on the sides of the egg. Please and thank you!
Absolutely beautiful!! Can’t wait till the 4 inch,8 line eggs are available, I just bought all my materials today so I would be ready. Thank you so much for sharing your love of this craft with everyone.❤️
This is an excellent tutorial. Your speaking style is normal, not choppy like some of the tutorials I've watched, ala Olivia's Romantic Home (drives me nuts). Anyhoo, I really enjoyed this. Good job. I have purchased some of your eggs and will give it a try.
Exactly what I came here to suggest as you will get a little more stretch to cover the wider circumference of the egg. It would make sense to keep the band as narrow as possible.
Hi there. I’m curious if you start the 5-lined and 6-lined eggs differently? I bought some of those while waiting for the 8-lined eggs to come back in stock. Thank you!
Oh how I miss being able to create things like this but arthritis in my hands makes it impossible. Just watching your video made me remember the joy and satisfaction I got when I was able to do things like this in the past. Thank you for bringing to mind a great memory ! 🌿🌸🌿
Jane Vt. I too have extreme arthritis, but it is osteoarthritis which I think is a slower progression than some, and it does not warp you as quickly as some of the other arthritis. It has it's down side, which in my case is I have it in almost all of my joints. The exception is my fingers - which are still functional. Until I saw your message, I was feeling sorry for myself because I have a lot of pain - everywhere - and can no longer take NSAIDs - a type of medicine which helps my type of arthritis. The other cost is that my range of motion has significantly been lessened by bone spurs in the joint - the body's defense to constant bone on bone grinding. I tell you all this to explain why and how important your post was to me. I know when you say you can't use your hands like this anymore, there is a lot more to the story. But I think that was my fear - that I could not craft or paint anymore. Learning to live with the pain was fine so long as I could still function. Of course over the years as the bone spurs grew - my range of motion went - and I didn't even know it. I had been compensating all the time - so when he pointed out what I couldn't do - I realized I still could do what was most important to me. I am hoping that when you think about your disease and how it has progressed, you will realize the same thing. That as you couldn't do some things, you pushed harder to be able to keep something important to you. I know this does not happen for all people. I am lucky and know it. I was diagnosed at 18 with it in my entire spine and shoulders, and I feel I can still bend well for a 68 year old woman. Yes, some of my spine is fused (with bone spurs), but I can bend over and pick up a penny. I have fought for that. Please tell me if you have something important you have been able to hold on to? You are so sweet in your message, it broke my heart. Was there something you can say - I still can get on my horse? or I drive in a carriage now? I'm just so upset that no one told me back at 18 that I would have to make choices - and pushing hard to keep some things, or not doing it because of the pain was a choice. But who tells you that you have to make that same choice every day for the rest of your life? Or lose it?
Wow Thank you!! I love this. I really want to make some but your lined egg is out of stock. Can recommend somewhere else. I’m so excited I’ll shop for my fabric tomorrow😃
I'm so sorry, and yes, we have more on the way. There have been major shipping delays with my suppliers over the last few months. You can also draw your own lines using our video right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pz0hh-kval0.html - I hope that helps and I'm sorry again for the wait.
Love this video, making several for this coming Easter , thank you , i did Christmas balls the same way, and would like to note that using a thimble really helps your fingers push those pins in , happy crafting and pinning everyone, so relaxing and the best therapy ever,😊
Patient teacher, beautiful calming voice and wonderfully talented! First time here and just subscribed to your page. Thank you so much for bringing a new fun craft to my world!
Decades ago I was choosing fabrics for two small dolls - and that process took me about 2.5 hours! I loved all the fabrics even though I was very not used to mixing plaids with prints and stripes ... but the combo of all of those was fab! The bottom line - it is now 50 years later and those dolls were never made. They were called 'Friends'. Now I love your tutorial and used to collect eggs of all kinds - but am gun-shy about buying all sort of fabrics. LOL I love the colors you chose ... but if I made this for gifts, I would be crippled trying to figure out if the recipients would like the colors. My daughter refused a crocheted afghan I made for her because "those colors are not what I want" - so I made her choose the colors, made her a new afghan and she never bothered to take a picture of it on her bed. I love watching and learning from you. The rest is up to me - for sure. Thank you!!! I'm in my 83rd year of learning and liking lots of stuff.
I just finished my first 1. Did realize til the end that the off set band made this one harder but I did it's not perfect but it's pretty and my next one will be better
Hi Patricia.. thank you! I do have some pre-cuts available (specifically for these no-sew ornaments and eggs)... you can find them here: theornamentgirl.com/market/product-category/fabric/fabric-pre-cuts/ (I also occasionally have full kits available with pre-cut fabrics, but I'm sorry to say I'm totally sold out at the moment.)
I truly love these! But please provide a warning in your videos to pet owners. Because they are full of pins, they need to keep locked away from a frisky puppy that may wish to chew and play with them. :( I was making them for my daughters and it just suddenly struck me that I have five grand-puppies and a grand-kitty who could be seriously injured, or worse.
What size egg did you use plus do you know where I can buy them online for. A good price ? The eggs are beautiful and thank you for sharing your video .
Hi Elisabeth.. thank you for the compliment. The egg I used was 4" tall, but you can really use just about any size, and just adjust the number of layers as needed. I've got my own custom foam eggs here (with the pre-drawn lines): theornamentgirl.com/market/product/8-lined-4-inch-soft-foam-egg/ - but you can also get your own eggs from anywhere you like, and draw your own lines. I talked about that a little bit in the video and there's a link right under the video to another video teaching how to draw your own lines. I hope that helps. :)
Very pretty!! Could you please teach us the flower design coming off the center? The colors were orange, green and cream fabric. It’s absolutely gorgeous!! Can’t wait to see how that one is made. Thank you so much for sharing!!
I'm going to think about how to translate this idea to a large plastic/foam egg for a baby shower gift using washcloths, socks, blankets, etc.and filling the egg. These are super cute!
Oh my gosh... I just found you!!!! Love this so much... a friend of mine used to make ornaments like this as well.... such a fun way to no sew quilt!!!! Just subscribed!!! I think you might like my channel as well!!!! Blessings^_^
Thank you for making this video. I've always wanted to try that technique on foam eggs but never had such a person or video to learn from! Your way of explaining this technique is simple and fun. I love your sense of humor too! I was wondering if the long strip you used for the center was cut on the bias or not? I also would love to see the companion videos on all the other eggs especially the one with the redish star in the middle. I'm subscribed now so I can't wait to view your upcoming "wonderful" creations! Thanks again!!!❤😊
Hi Ive just come across your channel and these eggs are fabulous. I’ve subscribed, Just wondering though, because you use so many pins is the egg not heavy. Could you not use glue! Thank you.
Hi Joan... this egg is a little heavier than some of the other ornament patterns we've got on the channel, but it's not too bad. I have heard of people using glue before but I'm honestly not sure how that would work out. The pins make things so stable and help you keep your points nice and sharp. (Also, I'm just not that great with glue, but that could just be me lol).
Stunning ... your step by step tutorial was very clear and easy to follow. Thank you so much for sharing 🤗👍🤗 Question: are you using flat head pins ( I went in to order pins and found there are different kinds)
Hi Angelita, yes. The exact ones I used are Size #17 Dressmaker pins which have a flat head. I should have said that in the video. Thank you for asking this question :)
If your finger gets sore from pushing in the pins, they make different kinds of thimbles. I like the one that goes on like a ring and covers just the part of your finger you push with. Since I make mistakes I learned that a button shank trimmer will slip right under the fabric and it lifts the pin inside without breaking your nails or tearing the fabric.
I love all the designs but it seems your shop is out of stock with most needed supplies. Have any idea when the supplies will be once again available? I'll be waiting.
I'm so sorry about that. We have more of our products on the way now. Please be sure you're on my email list so I can let you know when we have our items back in stock: ornamentgirls.com/get/emails/
These are gorgeous....thank you for sharing your talent. I was looking for a little something to make and send family for Easter since we cannot get together. These will be perfect for that!
Hi Tammy... it really depends on how much smaller you're going (if it's only a tiny difference in size, you'll probably need close to the same size fabric pieces). If you're going a lot smaller, you can try sizing down 1/2" or so for every 1" smaller egg you're using. (It can take a little experimenting sometimes).
I have made things doing folded star Technique however we use circles for ours. You save a lot of fabric that way and also you can iron all the triangles before hand in place. And we just met the center seam we didn’t overlap the seam. You fold it your circle in half and then iron it, then fold in half again so it’s a center fold in the half circle then you folded your corners down to the center seam And iron it again and you can make 1 million of them at one time and then just put them on your project they are pre-folded basically so it makes putting it together very easy
If you make bias tape for your trim pc it would pull and bend easier for you. No problems. Send to make this technique with pillows years ago. Love it. Getting busy for Easter gifts for my friends.
Thank you so much! I am so glad you love the eggs! The other eggs shown in this video are patterns that are currently exclusive to The Ornament Girls Club. We would love to have you join us the next time we open for new members! You can find out more about The Ornament Girls Club here: ornamentgirls.club/
Hi Debbie... thank you! I love these colors too. I would have them available if I could, but I’m anxiously awaking their next similar line. (It’s rue1800 by Moda - you might be able to find some in a search)
Hi Amy.. thank you so much! I sell one or two finished ornaments every Friday actually! (We call it 'Finished Ornament Friday' lol). I send out an email each Friday showing them. Here is a place to sign up for my emails if you're interested: ornamentgirls.com/get/emails/ (I do send out lots of other ornament inspiration ideas and how-to emails too, so just a warning in case you wouldn't be interested in those). Thank you again for the compliment :)
I did the quilted balls many years ago. Thought about doing them again at Christmas time. I'm thrilled to see the eggs.i was so enchanted with them im not sure I breathed the whole time you were doing it. I'm going to be ordering some of the eggs from you. I think doing the first couple might be easier with the marked eggs. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of these. I do remember the sore fingers. Felt kind of like you caught them in a meat grinder.lol
